The Palace is an imaginary world that lies in the mind of the corrupted person where they see themselfs as the "ruler", "king", etc. The Phantom Thieves enters the Palaces and have to steal the "Treasure", wich is the heart of the palace, and the corrupted person's most praised belonging. When succesfully stealing the Treasure, it materialises in the said praised belonging of the corrupted person when they get back into the real world. The Phantom Thieves then succeeds in making the corrupted person's confess. The Phantom Thieves can also, via the app on their phones, go to another cognitive place called "Mementos", wich is the cognitive mind of the public society themselfs. Mementos looks like Shunjin's trainway station, but goes very, VERY deep underground and is heavly corrupted. In the Palaces and Mementos, The Phantom Thieves fights creatures called "Shadows", they fight those creature with their equipment - melee weapons, guns, and "Persona". Each member of the Phantom Thieves have an Persona of their own, the Persona represents the "Will of rebellion" inside their hearts, the will to fight for justice and fight back the corruption of society.
