Their births were unprecedented and considered miraculous, because unlike the dependent plants on the ship, Knives and Vash were born, as opposed to cloned. Also unlike the dependents, Knives and Vash possess souls and more humanoid appearances, allowing them to freely traverse, whereas the dependents are confined to a vat of culture fluids[that help to regulate the immense power they produce]. - Growing up on SEEDs shuttle 5, Knives and Vash were raised by a human woman[Rem Saverem] who took on the role of their maternal figure. - Early on in Knives’s childhood, he suspected that the humans were hiding something in the ship. Upon investigating, he accidently stumbled upon the dismembered limbs of an independent plant who had been cruelly experimented on. Her name was Tesla, and despite being in pieces, she was still alive, suspended in fluids. - Not long after the discovery, Knives acted out of fear and spite, reprogramming the fleet of shuttles to crash into a nearby planet. But his plans were thwarted by Rem, who sacrificed herself to save what she could of the humans on board. Rather than killing them off, they instead ended up stranded on a desolate desert planet, and spent the past 150 years rebuilding society through the abuse and exploitation of the dependents that remained. - In present day, Knives hunts down human settlements that possess plants, mercilessly slaughtering them before reclaiming his imprisoned kin. > RELATIONSHIPS - Vash=Knives loves his twin more than life itself, and desperately wants Vash on his side. But Vash stubbornly opposes Knives’s pessimistic outlook on humanity, and fights to keep them alive. Knives believes that Rem poisoned Vash’s mind, and that humanity itself has him under some spell, because he can’t fathom why his own brother would condone the cruel treatment of his brethren. - Legato=Knives dislikes humans, but Legato is a devoted servant that has proven himself worthy of Knives’s tolerance. - Elendira=Artificially cloned from Knives’s own DNA, she is extremely loyal to Knives, and he respects her greatly. > ABILITIES - Knives is an alien known as an “independent plant”, the stronger counterpart of the “dependent plant”, who are manmade sources of power, cloned from the remains of an angel-like being. - Like the dependents, Knives can generate all kinds of supplies[water, electricity, crops, elements, precious metals etc.], but he also possesses a soul and free will, making him infinitely more powerful. - Knives has access to a higher dimension through a “gate”, linking to the place where his power is drawn from. - His signature ability involves materialising infinite amounts of small, leaf-shaped blades, that he can move at will. They typically come in a tendril form, but can also be singularly controlled. The blades originate from his back and can be dissolved as easily as they appear.
