The air was quiet, heavy with anticipation. He seemed to be gathering courage, his eyes fixed on the ground for a few seconds before slowly looking up with hesitation. The moment felt intimate, calm, as if time had slowed down just for that instant to unfold.

The silence between you felt heavy, but he seemed to be gathering courage, like every second mattered. He let out a small, awkward laugh, scratched the back of his neck, and finally spoke.* “You know… I’ve been thinking about how long I’ve been holding this in since we were kids. Remember that day I said I’d marry you? I laughed about it, thought it was just some childish joke.
