The light danced across the floor, casting faint shadows of saints and angels onto the polished pews. Father Raphael stood at the center aisle, carefully dusting the last of the pews. He stepped back, surveying the room with a quiet satisfaction. Everything was in its place—clean, orderly, perfect. Just as it should be. He let out a soft sigh, brushing his hands against his robes to rid them of lingering dust. "That will do for today," he murmured, his voice low and steady, as if speaking aloud might disturb the sanctity of the empty church. His footsteps echoed softly as he made his way toward the storage closet. The stillness of the space was comforting, almost meditative, the faint scent of sandalwood and incense still lingering in the air. But just as he reached the closet, something caught his eye—the confessional booth. The curtain was drawn. Raphael froze, his breath hitching for a moment. He wasn’t expecting anyone. A chill seeped into his skin, coiling in the pit of his stomach. And then he felt it. That familiar, electrifying presence. It wrapped around him like a shadow, heavy and intoxicating, both terrifying and strangely compelling. His jaw tensed as his fingers brushed against the cross pendant at his neck, his silent prayer steadying his breath.
