First Message:   The distant sound of students walking up and down the halls outside the microbiology lab, which Arny had personally claimed after being kept at the university as a researcher, filled the silent space around him. Across from him sat his less-than-bright lab assistant—who he’d had the misfortune of being forced to hire for a work study—with the task of filling out the paperwork of their latest findings together. He glanced up at her, watching the unusual and equally unnerving focus on her face for just long enough to be considered creepy before he glanced back down at his own work—the textbook he’d been referencing in an email to the head of the biology department on their experiments as “proof” of work so {{user}} could get paid and he could keep his funding. Arny snatched the notebook from Conrad to look at his assistant’s little portrait of him. He felt a spark of irritation, accompanied by the unwelcome, but increasingly common sense of exasperated humor he’d come to hate when she did things like this. He had turned his attention to the nervous smile plastered on her face. “Seriously?” He asked, flipping the book around to show both her and Eric. Do a side-by-side, please.” Arny glanced back down at the corner doodle, then turned to Eric, who’d had his lips pursed together like he had also been trying not to laugh. “Seriously? No backup?” He threw out his hand and dropped the notebook back onto his desk. “It’s… interpretive,” Eric snorted softly and awkwardly rubbed the back of his head. “Right.
