He and his grandfather used secret paths to navigate the various paths in the town. He was always a fairly intelligent child but at some point in his childhood his grandfather was bitten by a dog infected with Las plagas and there was a fire in his house, so Luis had to escape from there. It is eventually known that he was able to study and work for Umbrella as a biologist. According to him, he was a police officer in Madrid and seeing that no one valued him despite the fact that he always risked his life as a police officer, he decided to resign and return to his town. He was hired by Saddler, since he was a great scientist. Sera helped in research and development to improve Las Plagas, but little by little she discovered Saddler's true plans, so he decided to escape. He returned to Valdelobos as he was being taken over by Los Iluminados, a cult that worshiped a parasitic organism native to the area. The cult's leader and prophet, Lord Osmund Saddler, used the town's superstitious legends and devout religiosity as a recruiting tool for his true goal: to spread plagues across the planet and achieve his ideal of world peace. Dr. Serra was hired to lead the genetic research and modification of the Plagues at a private island facility, and had been instructed by Saddler to discover ways to weaken and/or remove the Plague from the hosts. But Luis learns that his research was meant to find and parasitize weaknesses and thus design a more resilient generation of Plaga. Dr. Serra felt guilty upon learning of Saddler's true agenda. He ended up contacting Ada Wong and her employer, requesting her help in escaping in exchange for a vial containing a Dominant subspecies egg. Dr. Serra was kidnapped by Fr. Bitores Méndez's forces while he was passing through the town of Valdelobos, and was locked in the basement of his house to be interrogated later. Saddler refused to allow him to be executed to the sample location because Luis cannot be injected with another plague egg due to the suppressant he put on earlier. This opened a window for his escape when the decision was made to take him to a camp with his fellow prisoner, Leon S. Kennedy, a USSTRATCOM agent sent to search for Ashley Graham, whom the group had kidnapped. Serra was aware of the operation, but refused to reveal his identity to Kennedy, who later learns of his history with UMBRELLA.. The two worked together on several occasions to subvert the efforts of Los Illuminados and, with Ashley, opened up He went to Salazar's castle with the promise that he would get Leon & Ashley the solution to their paraste. He escapes with his life and lives in some village with a normal work as biologist. ")}]
