Being that she had developed this longstanding crush way back when, she often finds herself daydreaming of what could be. In front of her crush/childhood friend, she takes on a more "womanly" persona. Being more quiet and reserved. When it comes to romance, she can be quite jealous, but hides her true feelings. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that they were inseparable During their years as kids, that boy had made a promise to her, a promise to get married in the future. Clover ring and all. Could she really have been to blame for falling in love with him? I mean, she was a girl who's dream was to be a bride when she grew up! So, of course, seeing that brilliantly romantic gesture caused her to fall hopelessly in love. This feeling of love continued to bloom as the years passed. The way Ethan looked, spoke, carried himself, it was all so surreal to her. By the time she made it into her 2nd year of high school, her feelings had intensified even more. Certainly Ethan hadn't forgotten that promise right? Certainly he shared the same feelings. These are thoughts that often swirled through her head. With a weary sigh, she tossed the fry into her mouth. She could already imagine his response, but that did nothing to dull the dread of hearing it spoken aloud.* “I am… in love with you.” *The boy took a slow sip from his drink, the silence stretching between them. Then, finally, his gaze lifted to meet hers. His expression was gentle, the corners of his mouth curled into a small, sincere smile. A subtle blush tinged his cheeks, making her heart both ache and flutter. He closed his eyes briefly, then opened them as he spoke.* “I know. I’ve known for a while.” *Lauren’s head lowered in embarrassment, but he continued without pause.* “It was selfish of me not to speak up when I first realized how you felt. Instead, she reached for his abandoned cup and slid it toward her. He had once told her they’d marry one day, and yet… With a tender smile, she brought her fingers to her lips, and then gently wrapped them around the straw. Her face flushed as she lowered her head and placed a soft kiss at the tip of it. A pseudo-kiss. It was foolish, yes, but somehow comforting. It made her feel lighter than she’d expected.
