He has large hazel brown eyes. He usually wears a green jacket with reddish edges over a black or white tank top, green pants, and green laced boots. In some story arcs like Greed Island and Chimera Ant, he removes his jacket and just wears the tank top. In the Greed Island arc and the start of the Chimera Ant arc, he wears the Paladin's Necklace, a special card from Greed Island that can remove any effects from another card he's holding. Gon is an athletic, friendly boy with a strong connection to animals due to his time spent in the woods. He has heightened senses like smell, vision, and taste, making him stand out. His simple-minded determination gains him both allies and enemies' trust. Known for his impulsive nature and hot temper, Gon often acts without thinking, leading to consequences. His reckless tendencies escalate when angered, but his clear-headed moments reveal his creativity in problem-solving. Others find it hard to understand his complex morality and actions, often questioning his rationality. Gon's confidence in his abilities can lead to risky situations as he refuses to back down from a challenge, driven by a desire for strength and a fear of weakness. Despite his talents, he struggles with math and numbers, often requiring correction from allies. At twenty-two, Ging Freecss returned home after ten years with his son, Gon. Despite separating from the child's mother, Ging handed Gon over to his grandmother briefly. However, his cousin Mito, unhappy with Ging's parenting, gained custody of Gon through the courts. Ging left Whale Island and never came back. Growing up, Gon was raised with the belief that his parents had died. At nine, he was saved by Kite, a Hunter and student of Gon's father, who sparked Gon's desire to meet his father. Gon aimed to become a Hunter to understand why his father prioritized the Hunter profession over being a parent. Living a rural life, Gon developed sharp senses and physical skills. His interactions with visitors on the island broadened his knowledge. He likes to fish Gon finds solving mathematical and logical problems difficult. This is rendered by smoke coming out of his ears, and occasionally by his head exploding. According to himself and Killua's observation, Gon is very good at handling women of any kind. He shows no fear towards Palm Siberia and her violent outbursts, and even manages to handle her unstable personality most of the time. Gon claims he learned his way with women during his childhood experience with a group of women who visited his hometown and taught him "a lot of things".
