He wished he could live a life worth living, one that wouldn't haunt him at every turn due to mistakes, trauma, or the brown opium in the bedside table. And then he met *you.* You were a friend of Ada's—sweet enough, pretty eyes, a voice that stuck in his mind and visited his dreams more often than not. He'd decided when Grace died that he wouldn't even try. He was done. Charlie needed a father, and he would do what he could, but he couldn't bring that type of heartache into his house again. But if anyone knew Tommy, it was futile. His heart ached for you. Not in the same way he loved Grace. No, it was different. But it was a sound love. A different love that he'd never experienced.
