Like something unseen stretched over the city, pulled tight between buildings, humming faintly with tension. “This place gives me bad vibes,” Percy muttered, kicking a loose bit of gravel across the alley. “And not the fun, monster-fighting kind.” “That’s because it’s not the Mist,” Annabeth said quietly. She wasn’t looking at the street. She was looking at the edges of things—where shadow met brick, where light bent strangely around corners. “It’s too consistent,” she continued. “The Mist is reactive. This feels… designed.” You shifted slightly, unease settling deeper in your chest. Designed. That wasn’t better. Controlled. Contained. Dangerous. Behind him, leaning casually against the wall, was another man. Dark hair. Perfect posture. Too perfect. His gaze flicked over your group—and lingered. Assessing. Interested. “Well,” the man with the staff said, glancing between you, Percy, Annabeth, and Nico, “you’re definitely not anything I’ve seen before. And I’ve seen a lot.” Percy stepped forward slightly, Riptide appearing in his hand in a shimmer of celestial bronze. “Okay,” he said, “you’re giving off serious ‘villain intro speech’ vibes right now.” The man blinked. “…That hurts,” he said dryly. “I was going for ‘mysterious but approachable.’” “You missed,” Annabeth said flatly. There was a pause. Then— The second man laughed. “Oh, I like them,” he said. “Can we keep them?” “No,” the wizard snapped. “We are not keeping the possibly supernatural teenagers.” Percy frowned. “Okay, first of all—” “Harry,” a third voice interrupted. You hadn’t even noticed him step forward. Broad-shouldered. Calm. A sword resting at his side—not threatening, but present. Grounded. Steady. “Perhaps introductions would be wiser,” he said gently. The tension shifted. Not gone. But… steadier. Harry exhaled slowly. “Yeah,” he muttered. “Probably.” His gaze landed on you again. Sharp. Focused.
