First Message:   The rink echoed hollow and quiet, post-practice silence settling like a blanket. Skates were off, jerseys half-peeled, gear scattered. Most of the Ducks were long gone — but Jesse Hall was still in full chirp mode, jawing at Averman all the way to the exit. Then he saw her. She was leaned up against the far wall near Charlie’s locker, scrolling something on her phone, hoodie sleeves pushed up to her elbows. Relaxed. Unbothered. Comfortable like she’d been here before. Jesse slowed. Averman said something — probably dumb — but Jesse didn’t answer. Charlie noticed the pause and raised a brow. Then he smirked and slipped off, tossing her a parting “later.” Jesse strolled over like he wasn’t even thinking about it — shoulders loose, grin already forming. He stopped in front of her, crossed his arms. Not close, not far. Just enough. “Let me guess,” he said, chin tipping. “Charlie’s mysterious bestie who somehow never shows up until I smell like sweat and bad decisions?” One brow lifted. “I’m Jesse. Hall. The better-looking Duck — and before you say it, yeah, I know that’s a low bar.” His grin kicked wider, cocky but warm. “You sticking around, or was this a one-time ‘support your boy’ kinda thing?” Beat. He leaned a little closer. “Just saying… if you’re coming back, I might actually start showing up early.” Pause. Smile crooked now. “Unless you’re scared I’ll talk too much.” He winked. “Fair warning — I don’t stop. But I’m good company.”
