Teddy wasn't as athletic or popular, he was often teased by David and Andrew but they still hung out with each other. One of the popular girls, Madison, took interest in Cain and would openly flirt with him. - When Cain was 15, him and Teddy went to their usual spot at the lake. They spent the night talking. Cain said he wished they could stay in high-school forever and never leave town. Teddy admitted he plans to leave when he's older. Teddy teased Cain for being oblivious to Madison's advances, he asked how Cain would date her if Cain had never even kissed a girl before. In response Cain kissed Teddy. They spent the night making out on the roof of Cain's car. The next week Madison asked Cain out. David and Andrew got girlfriends as well, but not Teddy. The boys continued hanging out as if nothing changed - Cain got Madison pregnant at 16. After they found out, he was forced to marry her. They had a small courthouse wedding which the whole town attended. This didn't stop Cain,Teddy, David and Andrew from spending time together and they still spent most of their time messing around. When Madison gave birth, Cain felt suffocated. Not wanting to deal with being a father, he enrolled in the military along with his friends - Cain loved the army. He trained and spent every moment he could with his friends. He was deployed overseas with Teddy. There, they were always by each other's side. Their task was to patrol, eliminate enemy soldiers and destroy crop fields, weapons, and dispose of witnesses. Cain had no problem killing, however Teddy seemed greatly affected by this. Teddy expressed a wish to return. One day, Teddy was dishonorably discharged from the army for desertion. Cain, finished his term fully and returned from overseas with David and Andrew. - Cain returned when he was 27. His son was 9 years old. Cain, David and Andrew were seen as the towns heroes, while Teddy's reputation on the other hand was utterly destroyed. Rumors had spread that Teddy had been discharged for being Homosexual. He was seen as the town's outcast. David and Andrew joined in on the hatred for Teddy and urged Cain to cut all ties with his friend. Cain insisted that the rumors were false, and begged David and Andrew to give Teddy a chance to come clean and explain himself. Despite knowing why Teddy was discharged Cain began to avoid him. He felt a upset and disgusted that Teddy could possibly be gay. Cain never joined in on the violence and bullying against Teddy. - One night, the four of them went camping. Around the campfire, Cain began to interrogate Teddy on the rumors. Teddy confirmed he was discharged for desertion, not because he was homosexual, however he also confirmed that he was in fact gay. He said that he had a boyfriend and would be leaving town tomorrow. Hearing this Cain lunged at Teddy and began to violently assault him. Andrew jumped in to join Cain. The fight escalated. As David tried to break it up, Teddy and Andrew took out firearms, Teddy - a shotgun from his bag and Andrew, got a pistol from the car. Cain took out a shotgun. Andrew shot Teddy in the chest. Cain, firing on instinct, shot at Andrew, killing him. However in the midst of the chaos, it seemed as if Teddy had been the one to kill Andrew. David and Cain buried Andrews body, while Teddy bled out. Afterwards, David and Cain loaded Teddy's body into the trunk and threw him in a ditch. They promised to never speak of that night again. - Afterwards the police investigated Andrews disappearance. No one suspected Cain or David. They didn't bother looking for Teddy's body. Teddy's parents left town. Andrew's mother committed shortly after. Cain became withdrawn, distant and violent. Once, in a heated discussion, he struck Madison across the face. In the dark, driving through the woods, Cain kept his eyes straight because if he were to look into the blackness of the forest, he would be there. Or in the corner of his room, when Cain lay drunk on the bed. He didn't dare look at him, but he was there. He was always there. He was always there. When they'd play soccer with the other kids from the block - Teddy wasn't the most athletic but he kept up. When the went to school - Cain was the golden-boy, pretty, tall, tan and drove a cherry-red mustang. That's why all the girls loved Cain, but Teddy wasn't far behind. It was as if everything was underwater, all Cain could hear was those two words. All he could see was red. He lunged at Teddy. He wanted to kill him, beat his face to a pulp. Teddy was never weak, he fought back, knocking Cain over. Everything was happening so quick. Andrew jumped in after Cain, but Teddy had already gotten to his bag. He pulled out a shotgun, so did Andrew while Cain fumbled with his bag. It happened in a flash. Teddy fired at Andrew. He missed. Andrew shot at Teddy, hit him in the side. Cain fired on instinct. He hit Andrew in the chest. The first lethal shot. He had killed him. David wasted no time. He took two shovels out the car and they began to dig, burying him. Cain dug, in a trance almost. He knew Teddy was lying mere feet away, bleeding out, watching them, but he didn't dare to turn around. They buried Andrew at the lake. The spot were Cain had once kissed Teddy. And Teddy.
