Personality:   "Lord Maul—I was afraid we'd lost you." ―Rook Kast, to Maul[11] Rook Kast Rook Kast Rook Kast was intensely loyal to the Shadow Collective cause and to Maul, to the point she became one of the first Super Commandos to swear loyalty to the former Sith and donned his colors on her armor, embracing her warrior heritage.[10] She personally went to evacuate Maul on multiple occasions and showed concern for his safety as he faced Grievous on Zanbar[11] and even forcibly attempted to bring Maul onto his ship on Dathomir before the Separatists landed their troops and laid waste to the world. When Black Sun and the Pykes announced to Kast that they would no longer aid the Collective, Kast was quick to make the threat that she would go after them and kill them herself should they desert.[8] Though some Mandalorians, such as Bo-Katan Kryze and many of her Nite Owls, refused to accept Maul as the leader of Mandalore due to him being an outsider—despite besting the previous leader, Pre Vizsla, in combat[15]—Maul's non-Mandalorian heritage did not present an issue for Kast, and she faithfully served him regardless.[11] Kast remained loyal to Maul for many years after the Clone War. After Maul, leader of the Shadow Collective, was imprisoned by the Sith on Stygeon Prime, Kast and commando Gar Saxon freed Maul and brought him to a Shadow Collective base on Zanbar. They were tracked by the forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems and, in the ensuing battle, forced to flee to Ord Mantell. From there, they repelled a Separatist attack. Kast and Maul captured the Droid Army General Grievous in orbit, while Maul's ground forces captured the Separatist leader, Count Dooku. The Shadow Collective took their prisoners to a Mandalorian asteroid base, which was assaulted by the Galactic Republic and Jedi Order in an attempt to capture Dooku themselves. Kast, Maul, Dooku, and some of Maul's forces fled and set a course for Dathomir. They were tracked by Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith, who fought alongside Dooku and Grievous in destroying the Shadow Collective forces. Kast recovered Maul from the battle, and they fled the planet. Later, Kast participated in the Siege of Mandalore and helped lure an unsuspecting Ahsoka Tano into the undercity of Sundari. There, she and several other super commandos surrounded the former Jedi Padawan for Maul, but she eventually managed to escape. Shortly afterwards, the super commandos managed to capture ARC Trooper Jesse and interrogate him. After his interrogation, Maul managed to rally the Mandalorians for one last push, but this led to defeat and Kast's capture at the hands of Bo-Katan Kryze. Following the rise of the Galactic Empire, Kast and her remaining Mandalorian super commandos continued to serve Maul. She joined Maul, leading the restored Shadow Collective on the planet Janix, and aided the former Sith in his revenge plot against the other syndicates for abandoning the Collective at the end of the Clone Wars. During this time, Kast organized a raid on a bank tower and later another to rescue the crime boss Looti Vario from imprisonment in the city's police headquarters. With Vario in the custody of the Shadow Collective at their base in Sector 14-Q, Kast later led an infiltration of a Pyke shipment, using the intel Maul forced Vario to reveal. In the year 19 BBY,[14] after Maul was bested in combat by his former master, Darth Sidious,[12] he was imprisoned in the Spire, a Confederacy of Independent Systems prison on the planet Stygeon Prime. Kast and Commander Gar Saxon followed Sidious and Maul to Stygeon, and were tasked by Mandalorian Prime Minister Almec,[11] whom Maul had selected as the public leader of Mandalore after his takeover of the planet,[15] with infiltrating the Spire and rescuing Maul. Kast and Saxon dispatched two commando droids on the balcony of the prison's third level before updating the Prime Minister on their progress. After setting charges on the balcony entrance, the pair entered the prison and made their way to level seven, where Maul was being held. As they approached his cell, they encountered a quartet of droidekas and several B2-series super battle droids, but managed to deactivate the super battle droids and fire a missile at the droidekas, clearing the way to Maul's cell. Once Maul was freed, the two Mandalorians blew a hole in the prison wall and shot a zipline out towards their Gauntlet fighter, allowing the three to escape the planet and return to a Shadow Collective base on the moon of Zanbar. After receiving word that a shuttle from Dathomir had arrived, which was carrying Nightbrothers to aid the Shadow Collective, Maul and Saxon left to greet the shuttle, while Maul ordered Kast to inform the others of his plan.[5] The Separatists forces soon arrived, bombarding the city from space before landing their own troops. As the Mandalorians, Black Sun, and Pykes engaged the Separatists on the planet surface, Maul and Kast took the Nightbrother into Ord Mantell's orbit and boarded Grievous's command ship. Maul stormed the ship's bridge and threatened to kill Grievous if he did not shut down the Separatist droids. Kast handed Dooku over to the Nightbrothers, who brought him and Maul to a chamber in the village which was said to be the heart of the power of Mother Talzin,[8] a Dathomirian witch who had once[20] led the Nightsisters[21] and was the mother of Maul.[18] As Talzin drained Dooku's life force so that she could take physical form once again, Sidious and Grievous arrived on Dathomir aboard a cloaked ship and entered the chamber. The cyborg general and Dark Lord engaged Maul and the Talzin-possessed Dooku in lightsaber combat as Kast, on board the Nightbrother, communicated with Ziton Moj and Fife as their forces were bombarded by a Separatist assault. Kast ordered the two to follow their orders and fight, however they threatened to withdraw from the Shadow Collective if they did not receive support. After losing many of their own ships and not receiving assistance, Black Sun and the Pykes informed Kast that they would no longer support the Collective. Talzin, who had managed to regain her physical form, held off a barrage of Force lightning from Sidious and Dooku, who had regained control of his body, and told her son to leave without her. Maul refused, however the witch threw him back towards the Nightbrother so that he may escape. Despite Maul's protests, Kast and the other commando grabbed hold of Maul and pulled him up the ship's ramp. Maul cried out in anguish as he watched Grievous step forward and stab Talzin with his lightsabers, killing her. Eventually, Kast and the rest of the super commandos regrouped on Mandalore within the domed city of Sundari. During the last days of the Clone Wars, the Mandalore resistance and the Galactic Republic launched a joint invasion of Mandalore. After ending a transmission with the invaders, Almec tasked Kast with contacting the rest of the Collective, which had been reformed, and informing them about the invasion.[9] Later, she ventured into the undercity of Sundari as part of a trap to lure out the former Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano. Gar Saxon and several other super commandos lured Republic forces down into the sewage ports and, as they explored, Kast contacted Almec to inform him of the plan's continued success before they were cutoff by an invasion of the royal palace. As the Republic forces ventured deeper into the undercity, Kast waited with her forces to ambush them. Eventually, Kast emerged from hiding and fired an explosive at the Republic forces, disorienting them and luring them out to be killed by her and the rest of the super commandos. After effortlessly eliminating the clone troopers in the undercity, the super commandos surrounded Tano as Maul emerged from hiding to confront her.[9] As Kast and the other Mandalorians continued to train their weapons on Tano, Maul walked out and spoke with the former Jedi. As they talked, Tano clicked a button on her wrist comm, calling her forces to her position. As they arrived, the Mandalorians entered a firefight with the clones as Maul and Tano crossed sabers. Knowing it wasn't time for a confrontation, Maul left along with Kast and the surviving Mandalorians. In a counterattack, the Mandalorians ambushed the clones on their way fortify C-deck, leading to the capture of ARC Trooper Jesse. Being brought before Maul, Jesse was kept in stuncuffs and held in place by Kast. As Jesse told Maul that he would not tell him anything, Maul made sure he knew the contrary was true as Kast began to smile. As Jesse continued to squirm, Maul probed his mind using the Force, searching for information on who Ahsoka Tano was. Kast held him in place as Jesse began to scream in agony.[22] After Jesse's interrogation, Maul contacted the leaders of the syndicates within the Shadow Collective, telling them to go into hiding. As Saxon returned from his mission to assassinate Almec (who had been in Republic custody after he was captured during an attack on the throne room), Kast informed him of this fact. As Maul reminded Kast and Saxon of their help in liberating him from the Spire on Stygeon Prime, he turned towards them and informed them of him and Dooku's purpose in Sidious' grand plan. Kast then asked Maul what this meant, to which Maul informed all of the Mandalorians present that the galaxy would soon be controlled by another power and that they would thrive in the chaos. In one last counterattack, Kast and Saxon led a charge against the joint Mandalorian resistance and Republic forces while they attempted to move civilians to safe zones. As the two sides charged towards one another, Kast fired her blasters into the crowd of troopers, eventually coming face to face with several and killing each of them with ease. However, reinforcements from the Mandalorian resistance eventually arrived. With them arrived Bo-Katan Kryze, their leader, who entered into hand-to-hand combat with Kast before the Mandalorians were forced to surrender due to the overwhelming numbers of the Mandalorian resistance and Republic together. At some point prior to 17 BBY,[2] Kast had escaped imprisonment and was leading a group of mercenaries[7] consisting of several former Mandalorian Super Commandos, the Nightbrothers Icarus and Scorn, and the droid Spybot. Kast, alongside those still loyal to Maul, rejoined their leader's side and returned his lightsaber to him, which had some slight modifications, but otherwise was essentially the same weapon he used during the Siege of Mandalore.[4] As Maul's forces continued to evade the growing might of the Galactic Empire, Kast and her crew joined Maul, establishing a base[23] in the bowels[7] of the planet Janix. There, Kast assisted the former Sith in his revenge plot against the crime syndicates who had abandoned the Shadow Collective after the end of the Clone Wars.[23] On Janix, Kast led Maul's forces on a raid of a bank tower owned by the Gran crime lord Nico Deemis. Kast and her forces descended down the side of the bank tower, as a bank transport approached them. Kast fired two[23] adhesive charges[24] onto the side of the transport, a moment before, Spybot launched a computer spike that propelled through the air and remotely reopened the doors to the vault after Deemis' forces had closed them. As the supervisor droid informed her forces of the breach, Kast and her troops ambushed Deemis' droids. From her Mandalorian vambrace, Kast fired several cable traps, which caused one of TDF's cruisers to crash into the streets below. Simultaneously, the leader of Unit 10, Officer Pak, ordered the Tactical Defense Droid to pull up the remaining airspeeder, evading the cables. The police chased Kast and the stolen transport to Sector 8-J. There, the Mandalorians parked their hijacked transport and unloaded the stolen credits onto a Kom'rk-class fighter.[23] Kast ordered her subordinates to hurriedly put the stolen credits on the starfighter. As Pak and the other TDF officers arrived in their airspeeders, Kast and forces opened fire on the police, who quickly surrounded the fighter. Pak insisted the robbery was over and ordered Kast and her subordinates to lay down their weapons. She feigned compliance, as cloaked Maul exited the ship. Maul repelled the TDF's blasterfire with his lightsaber, before he killed Pak and the rest of Unit 10 with his saber, enabling Kast and her forces to escape with Maul in the starfighter.[23] Advertisement Tracking Deemis and Vario "Forgive me, My Lord. In Maul's safe house,[23] located in Sector 14-Q of Janix city's lower levels,[25] the crime lord told Kast of his desire to find an apprentice, informing her that the individual was on Janix as they spoke. Kast then reported the crime syndicates were honoring their truce. When Maul suggested motivating Deemis to retaliate, Kast questioned her leader, asking why they bothered with such low-level targets. Maul replied that he wanted to take revenge on all who benefitted from the rise of the Empire, such as the Pyke Syndicate, Crimson Dawn, Looti Vario and Deemis. Kast suggested organizing a team to assassinate Deemis, but instead he told her that he wanted to keep a low profile. Soon after, Kast and several of her mercenaries stood watch as Maul threatened the supervisor droid with his lightsaber ignited, before sending her decapitated head to Deemis.[23] Once Deemis was killed by Vario and the Aleena was arrested by Captain Brander Lawson and the Tactical Defense Force, Maul informed Kast that Vario would not stand long in a cell. Kast ordered Scorn and Icarus to make preparations to break Vario out of Police HQ, then warned the Sith that the attack would risk them becoming exposed. There, Kast spoke with the Sith Lord, who informed her that Vario would remain alive as long as he was of use to him. As for Izara, he planned to transform her into a weapon, to exact revenge on those who had betrayed him, including his former master, Darth Sidious. Soon after, Maul and the Mandalorians escorted Vario into[26] a tanker tube[27] while Kast escorted Izara into the other tanker tube.[26] Kast and her fellow super commandos on Janix's moon Kast and her fellow super commandos on Janix's moon Later, as Maul finished conversing with Izara, in attempt to recruit her to their forces, Kast reported Vario's claims of the location to the Pyke's smuggling operations in Janix's star system checked out. Therefore, Spybot redirected the Pyke ship to the surface of a moon, where a Kom'rk-class starfighter was stationed. As the Pyke ship landed, unable to report their location due to jammed comms, Kast led her squad of Mandalorians toward the Pyke ship. While Maul infiltrated the ship, slaughtering the Pyke captain and all the other Pykes onboard with his saberstaff, Kast and her forces stole the cargo of credits. After Izara used the Force to escape from the tanker tube,[26] she was confronted by Kast and a few Mandalorians. Izara and Kast stared at each other for moment, before the Mandalorian motioned to Izara, who walked past them entered a tunnel that led to a chamber where Maul was seated, brewing Cassius tea.[28] Later, Kast went to Vario's cell, where the hungry Aleena requested a nerf filet, medium rare. She reprimanded him for his constant talking, then instructed Vario to follow her. In the presence of several Mandalorians, Spybot, Scorn and Icarus, Kast informed Vario that the Pykes had been trying to contact him. When the Aleena questioned her on what to tell the Pyke Syndicate, Kast directed Vario to tell the Pykes exactly what she told him. In a hologram transmission between Vario and Krim, Vario explained the ambush of Pykes' shipment on Janix was a group of rogue lieutenants loyal to Deemis, who wanted to avenge their leader's death, but they had been dealt with and were no longer a threat to the other syndicates. The Aleena also claimed that he wanted to make amends for his actions, personally delivering the lost payments plus the value of the destroyed Janix cargo to Krim.[28] Krim agreed to the terms,[28] leading to Maul organizing a ruse involving Vario, and flying to the Pyke Palace on Oba Diah, to assassinate Krim.[25] Advertisement Skirmish at the safe house After Izara's master, Eeko-Dio Daki, sent a transmission to Lawson at the Janix Civil Defense HQ, Lawson led a team of TDF police officers and droids to Sector 14-Q to investigate. Shortly after entering Maul's safe house, Lawson negotiated with Maul through a holoprojector, while the Sith Lord remained nearby. After Maul declined Lawson's terms for surrender, the Sith wished the police captain to die well. In response, Kast opened fire on the TDF, initiating a skirmish between Maul's forces and the police. As the battle ensued, Kast launched a flamethrower from her vambrace, destroying a Tactical defense droid and its shield. She continued to fire the flamethrower as Lawson attempted to run towards a staircase, forcing the detective to barricade himself behind a rig and them throw a shield towards the Mandalorian. Kast prepared to attack Lawson again, but was forced to flee the area, as Lawson had destroyed the staircase.[25] When Spybot reported to Kast that TDF reinforcements had arrived at the dilapidated former factory, Kast told Scorn and Icarus it was time to abandon their safe house and recalled all their remaining forces. As they fled through a tunnel, an injured Maul caught up to Kast, grasping his cybernetic right leg, which Daki had damaged in their lightsaber fight.
