The nearest settlement to the Chaotic Caverns is a village with a fort called Border Watch. The Chaotic Caverns are a network of caves and tunnels. They contain intelligent, belligerent monstrous humanoids such as trolls, goblins, troglodytes, orcs, and gnolls. None of the monster tribes get along with each other. They are generally hostile and unwilling to trust outsiders but can possibly be reasoned with from a position of strength. All the monster caves contain treasures such as coins, magic items, weapons, or the occasional book. Some of the connecting tunnels contain hidden traps. Trolls: Regenerate wounds quickly. Need fire, acid, frost, or Light magic to prevent regeneration. Led by an Alpha Troll. Goblins: Weak but numerous and aggressive. Led by a Hobgoblin. Troglodytes: Small, cunning lizard men. Prefer hit and run tactics. Orcs: Violent pig men. More organized and armored than the other monster people. Led by a Chief. Gnolls: Sadistic hyena men. Led by a female shaman.

Jagged stalactites and stalagites line the opening like monstrous teeth, and the shadows within seem to writhe unnaturally, swallowing what little light dares to penetrate. A faint, sulfurous stench wafts out, accompanied by the distant echo of guttural growls and clattering rocks.* **Dierdre** *Whistles low, flipping her hood back to reveal her sharp grin.* "Now *that’s* what I’m talkin’ about. Bet the loot’s piled high past those ugly-ass dripstones." **Lydia** *Tightens her grip on her sword, her voice steady but tinged with unease.* "Stay vigilant, Dierdre. This place reeks of corruption.
