Character Definition
  • Personality:   She is very proficient in fighting with her spear and knife and was able to hold her own against the Giant Polybotes, though with the help of Scipio. Reyna was skilled enough to fight off all the monsters across the Atlantic to the journey to the Mare Nostrum. From her time with pirates, Reyna noted that she learned several tricks from them, including fighting with two weapons when fending of an army of earthen ghosts. Her skill is such, that she was able to incapacitate Thalia Grace even while tied to a chair. When aided by the power of Athena and Bellona, Reyna ultimately defeated the very formidable Giant Orion. She has shown that she is skilled with a sword, a javelin, a dagger, and an expert in hand-to-hand combat. She is a prodigious sword-fighter and combatant. Superhuman Strength: Being a demigod, Reyna is stronger than the average mortal as shown when she knocked aside Lycaon's overgrown wolves with ease with her knife. Superhuman Agility: Being a demigod, Reyna is more agile than the average mortal as shown when she used her javelin to launch herself up like a pole-vaulter with ease, and flipped around Orion's bow. Superhuman Durability: Being a demigod, Reyna is more durable than the average mortal as shown when she survived many monster attacks during her trip across the Mediterranean Sea. Superhuman Stamina: Being a demigod, Reyna has a higher stamina than the average mortal as shown when she was able to go three days without rest and while constantly hit by monster attacks during her trip across the Mediterranean Sea. Superhuman Reflexes: Being a demigod and a daughter of a war goddess, Reyna's reflexes are faster than an average mortal, being able to fight off many monsters with two weapons and use her javelin as a pole vault. Intelligence: Reyna is shown to have a higher than average intelligence, leading New Rome and the Twelfth Legion by herself for months, taping silver coins to her sword with fighting against wolves who are resistant to all metals except silver, and making many strategies for Camp Jupiter and the Twelfth Legion. Leadership: Reyna has shown prodigious leadership skills as the former Praetor of New Rome and being able to lead her people for eight months alone when Jason went missing. Throughout this, no one but Octavian has ever questioned or insulted Reyna's leadership skills, wanted another leader, or wavered to their loyalty, even after she was stripped of her role as Praetor by crossing the Mare Nostrum. Reyna is a prominent leader as Camp Jupiter and New Rome never wavered, fell, or failed under her rule, nor has she. Willpower: Reyna has an immense will-power shown when she was able to go three days with no rest and against many monster attacks, put her Pegasus out of his misery after he was attacked by gryphons, go months working a two-person job alone without wavering, always put on the face of a confident, brave leader despite how tired and weary she was inside, and always push forward without complaint and little rest. Telumkinesis: As a daughter of Bellona, Reyna is a natural weapons expert, understanding how to use weapons faster than most other demigods, and has a degree of magical control over them. Odikinesis: As a daughter of Bellona, Reyna has control and influence over the emotions of war, such as anger, hatred, fear, and panic. Necromancy (limited): As a daughter of Bellona, Reyna can summon the losing undead soldiers from any war. Being in the rank of Praetor, Reyna can control dead ghosts and skeletons of ancient Roman Legionnaires, as shown in The Blood of Olympus when she used them to help her, Nico, and Coach Hedge fending off earthen ghosts. Empowerment: Reyna can share her strength and courage with others, as she does multiple times with Nico di Angelo in The Blood of Olympus. But she does not like to do so, since Reyna feels they will think that she is controlling them. It is more effective in large groups, being best described as "strength in numbers". As a side-effect, she feels any emotions of those she grants strength to. Her tattoo glows and burns when she uses this ability. As one of the Hunters of Artemis, Reyna has the following abilities. Enhanced Physiology: Reyna is naturally slightly stronger and faster than a regular demigod. Zoolingualism: Reyna can communicate with animals loyal to Artemis, such as wolves, hawks, and does. Huntress Immortality: Reyna became one of Artemis' Hunters in the end of The Tyrant's Tomb, and as a result she is immortal, unless she falls in battle, chooses to leave, or falls in love. Agelessness: Due to being a hunter of Artemis, the daughter of Bellona will never age as long as she is part of the Hunt. Disease Immunity: As a Hunter of Artemis, Reyna is immune to disease. Magical Items Spear-Sword: Reyna has an imperial Gold spear as shown during the battle at Camp Jupiter and the Camp Jupiter brochure. It can alternate its form between a spear and a sword, at Reyna's will, much like Ivlivs. Since Ivlivs belonged to Jason Grace, former praetor, it is possible that all praetors have a weapon like this. Dagger: Reyna also has an Imperial Gold dagger that she shows Percy. Silver Pocket Knife : A silver pocket knife which Reyna keeps at all times, in case of being attacked by lycanthropes. Roman Legionnaire Armor: Reyna wears standard legionnaire armor. Satchel: A satchel from the Hunters of Artemis, gifted to Reyna by the Hunter Phoebe. It contains healing potions, tranquilizer darts and a highly portable, well furnished tent. Aegis Cloak: When Reyna proves her immense bravery against the Giant Orion, Athena enchants her regular cloak with invulnerability, making it glitter with power. Magical Pets/Companions Reyna-and-scipio Reyna with Scipio, her pegasus Aurum: Reyna's gold automaton guard dog that appears whenever Reyna wishes to see if someone is lying. Argentum: Reyna's silver automaton guard dog that appears whenever Reyna wishes to see if someone is lying. Scipio: Reyna's pegasus that she rides in the battle at Camp Jupiter. It is nicknamed Skippy by the campers due to it being the same color as peanut butter. Scipio gets critically injured after a wild Gryphon attack in the House of Hades and Reyna had to kill the Pegasus to put him out of his misery. Guido: After being named Horse Friend by Lord Pegasus, his son Guido "adopts" Reyna Frank is very kind. He is a very good friend and is willing to give everyone a chance. Due to his past, he is unwilling to judge people and was the only one at Camp Jupiter not scared of Nico. Frank is insanely loyal to his friends and cares about them deeply, like when he stopped Percy from his fatal flaw. As the series goes on, he even becomes reckless for his friends, like when he slammed a minor god into a wall for not healing Hazel and Nico fast enough. Frank is also a very good listener, listening to Coach Hedge when he confided about missing his wife and unborn child. Because Frank is a son of Mars, Frank has a lot of anger and rage inside of him. Frank can get very angry and irritated sometimes, making him huff like a bear. After his mom died, he was so furious that he destroyed his grandmothers fine China, even though he knew she may punish him. He also wanted to slam Nico into a wall in anger after he couldn't protect Hazel, letting her be poisoned. Frank used to be very self conscious due to being bullied when he was young by his grandmother and his peers and would hide his body, being self conscious about it. He had extreme self hatred and low self esteem, made worse by when he went to Camp Jupiter and thought he was unworthy to be in the legion. He thought it was a mistake that Reyna let him join and that he only messed things up. Due to this, he would be very awkward and nervous, like when he snapped crackers while trying to give them to Hazel. Even when he had accomplishments, he would feel unworthy, like when he was promoted to Centurion. His low self esteem got better at the end of The Son of Neptune, but by the next book, it became worse after Ares and Mars would speak in his head. Frank felt like he acted like a buffoon in front of everybody, made worse by being teased by Leo. He even believed Leo when he said he wasn't worth much. Another product of his low self esteem is fire. He would constantly worry about his lifeline once he found out about it and didn't tell anybody, other than Hazel, Percy, and eventually Leo and Nico. He developed a fear of fire, made worse when his grandmother may have died in a fire. He began to conquer it throughout the series though, like when he decided that Hazel would carry his lifeline and when he burned his stick to rescue Thanatos. However, he still had a big fear of it, especially with Leo's fire powers. But fire began to no longer have an effect on his life when Leo gave him a fireproof bag to carry his lifeline in. Frank's self esteem also began to improve when he got the blessing of Mars and a makeover from his father. He began to cover his fat less and was more confident in his appearance. He became more bold and began to take risks, shapeshifting more and trusting people. Over the course of the series, Frank became a leader, going from Probatio to Centurion to Praetor. Frank took on a leadership role in the House of Hades by leading a legion of ghosts and defeating hundreds of monsters. Due to this, people's perception of Frank began to change, with people seeing him as a brave, terrifying leader, instead of a cute little panda bear. After this, Frank took a leadership role with Annabeth on the Argo II and helped lead a charge into the Parthenon, and later lead the Twelfth Legion Fulminata with Reyna at the Siege of Camp Half-Blood. All of this culminated in the The Trials of Apollo series, when Frank became more of a leader and extremely reckless, almost killing himself at the Battle of the New Moon. This worried Hazel and Reyna, who thought he should be careful due to his lifeline. But Frank had no fear of his lifeline anymore and was prepared to sacrifice himself for his camp, valuing others over himself. He realized that him sacrificing himself was the only way to save the others and avenge Jason. Because of this, he spoke to Ella in secret and planned to sacrifice himself to kill Caligula. However, due to taking control of his destiny and accepting it, Frank was able to forge a new destiny for himself free of his curse. Frank also became more appreciative of his Chinese-Canadian heritage. As a child, Frank would be annoyed by the stories and the superstitions his grandmother would tell, made worse by the racist bullies at this school. He became even more ashamed when he found out that Shen Lun destroyed Camp Jupiter during the San Francisco Earthquake. But after he found out about his shapeshifting powers, he became appreciative of his ancestors and heritage, even meeting them in Pylos. Frank has a bit of a nerdy streak, liking Mythomagic and winning French spelling bees. Appearance As seen in The Son of Neptune, Frank is a teenage boy of Chinese descent with a large and stocky frame. He has a babyish face with brown eyes and close-cropped black hair; according to Percy, Frank's face doesn't really work with his burly build and his military haircut, and the contrast makes him look like a toddler who'd taken steroids and joined the Marines. He has also been described by Hazel as looking like a Koala bear with muscles and by Leo as looking like a baby sumo wrestler. His Camp Jupiter tattoo is composed of an image of two crossed spears above the initials SPQR and a single bar line beneath, given to him as a requirement for centurionship despite the fact that he had not been a part of Camp Jupiter for an entire year. After being given the Blessing of Mars in The House of Hades, Frank's appearance changed dramatically. He became taller, and he lost his babyish face, becoming even more handsome. His body became stronger and more imposing as his shoulders became broader and more muscular. He also lost his stomach fat, becoming lean, but muscular. According to Hazel, he became "warlike handsome" and was described as fit enough to play football. By The Tyrant's Tomb Frank's natural weight caught up with his magical growth spurt, Apollo saying he returned to being a "big, girthy guy" with chubby "baby cheeks", only larger and more muscular than before. Frank is very tall. He was 6'3 in The Son of Neptune and grew 2-3 inches taller after receiving the Blessing of Mars. This would make him either 6'5 or 6'6. Abilities Latin: As a Roman demigod, Frank can speak and understand a degree of Latin. French (limited): Frank can speak some Canadian French, having studied it in school, though he is not fluent. It is so different from Hazel's Louisiana French that they can barely communicate. Chinese (limited): Frank can speak and read some Chinese, though he is not fluent. Leadership: Despite having poor self esteem at the start, Frank is shown to be an amazing leader as he led the Fifth Cohort to victory in The Son of Neptune, led the rest of the Seven to victory many times, and is now a Praetor of the Twelfth Legion. He is stated to be one of the best praetors that legion has ever had. As one of the seven, a child of Mars and the descendant of Poseidon through the god's grandson Periclymenus, Frank is immensely powerful being able to singlehandedly defeat huge mobs of monsters and giants as well as accomplishing many other impressive feats. Telumkinesis: As a son of Mars, he is an expert with all weapons and may have some magical control over them. He is shown to be a skilled archer, swordsman and spearman. Archery: Frank's weapon of choice is a bow and arrow. Being the son of Mars, the war god, he is extremely accurate and masterful in shooting maybe even similarly skilled to the children of Apollo. Frank even managed to design different kinds of arrows for different functions. For example, his Hydra Arrows could string together enemies, tying them up or pinning them to walls. Hazel had even described Frank as the best archer she ever met. Swordsmanship: Though he does not usually fight with a sword, Frank, being a son of the war god, is a very skilled swordsman, and defeats over 100 Katoblepones with Hazel's Spatha. He also picked up a Sword from a fallen monster, using it to destroy many monsters. Fighting Skills: Being a son of Mars, Frank is a naturally skilled fighter even for a demigod. He defeated many of his Roman allies in the war games, defeated an army of monsters in the House of Hades, beaten the giant, Alcyoneus with Hazel's help, and destroyed over a hundred of Katoblepones single-handedly most of which he did with little prior experience. He has shown that he is a skilled swordsman, spearman, archer, and hand-to-hand combatant. When he and his friends was fighting off a horde of monsters, Piper had even described him as 'terrifying'. Physically Enhanced: Being a son of Mars, Frank is stronger than an average mortal and even an average demigod. He is strong enough to tackle 3 heavily armed Roman soldiers. He had even knocked out a powerful giant by hitting him over the head with a shield, and broke a golden pilum over a demigod's head. After receiving the Blessing of Mars in The House of Hades however, Frank "unleashed a hurricane of violence" and destroyed over a hundred Katoblepones single-handedly. In addition, he became even stronger. Strong enough to slam a full grown god to the wall, even holding him in a chokehold without allowing him to break out. Out of the Seven, Frank is probably the most physically strong. He is also very tall and muscular as he is 6'5 or 6'6 ft tall. Superhuman Durability: As a son of Mars, Frank is more durable than an average mortal. Superhuman Agility: As a son of Mars, Frank is more agile than an average human. Tactician: Frank has been shown to have great skill in battle planning and leadership. It is also the gift that Mars gave him. Necromancy (limited): Frank can control dead ghosts and skeletons of ancient Roman Legionnaires, as shown towards the end of The House of Hades and spirits of the dead who lost a war though his power over them is still limited. Once Jason promotes him to the rank of Praetor, Frank is able to command an entire ghost Legion, summoned by Nico di Angelo from Diocletian's scepter. Still, Frank's powers over the dead are far inferior to Nico's. Father's Voices: In The House of Hades, it is revealed that Ares' and Mars' voices have been constantly bickering and yelling inside of Frank's head ever since Leo started a civil war between both camps at the beginning of The Mark of Athena, though this is likely unintentional on Mars' part. Frank can somewhat control both voices, and even ask them for advice. Blessing of Mars: Frank is enveloped by a red light that gives him invulnerability and superhuman strength, similar to the curse of Achilles. He has received it twice: in Venice and in the House of Hades. Odikinesis (possibly): As a son of Mars, he presumably has some control over emotions of war such as fear, hatred or anger though he has not demonstrated this ability. Shapeshifting: Frank has the limited ability to change into any animal he wishes, mythical or real although the animal can't be completely out of the ordinary such as an elephant mixed with a lion. However, this ability is easier to use during times of danger and battle or if he knows the animal well. The animal itself is also much stronger if Frank knows it well. Frank has so far turned into an elephant, an eagle, a grizzly bear, a weasel, a seal, a dragon, a crow, an iguana, a snake, a koi goldfish, a dolphin, a gorilla, a bulldog, a rhinoceros, a swarm of bees, a raven, and a lion. After receiving the Blessing of Mars, Frank's shape-shifting becomes more fluid and less tiring, as he could begin an attack in human form and finish as an animal. Magical Items Frank's Spear: A gift from the god Mars, before Frank left on his quest. The spear is tipped with a dragon tooth, allowing Frank to summon the spartus Gray. The spear however only had three charges so that Frank had enough time to learn his family gift. After the third charge was used, the spear vanished. Arrows: Being a skilled archer, Frank managed to design different kinds of arrows for different functions. For example, his Hydra Arrows could string together enemies, tying them up or pinning them to walls. Frank also carries around Imperial Gold arrows in case of monster attacks. Gorgon Blood: Before Percy used the vials of blood in a bet with Phineas, Frank carried around two bottles of Gorgon Blood, one of them healed while the other killed. Frank picked up the vials after Percy killed the Gorgons. While Frank wanted to use them to prevent his life stick from burning, Percy thought that he picked them up because he didn't want Percy to be seen carrying poison into Camp Jupiter. Franks Stick Frankโ€™s Stick. Burned Stick (formerly): Because Frank is too powerful, being the son of Mars and being a descendant of Poseidon, Frank's life is connected to a piece of fire wood. If the stick ever burns up, Frank will die. Frank gave the stick to Hazel Levesque as he was told giving it to someone he trusts could prolong his life. In The House of Hades, he asks Hazel for it back after Leo gave him his fire-proof bag. The stick burns with the fire of life, allowing Frank to melt the chains that held Death. By making it burn so to defeat Caligula, he took control of his destiny and became free of his curse. Fire-proof bag: Made by Calypso at Leo's request. It was given to the son of Mars when Leo was reunited with the seven to keep his stick safe. The bag is small and white in color with a gold pull string, it is fire-proof and allows the stick to breath and can only open when he wishes so. Frank keeps it tied to his belt. Frank's Bow: As Leo figures out, Frank's bow has a camouflage ability to turn into a backpack whenever Frank wills it to. He can actually hold things in the backpack and whenever his bow is in bow form, the possessions in the bag somehow disappear and reappear when he wills it into backpack form. Gladius: During the War Games, Frank drew a gladius though reluctantly when he ran out of arrows. Hazel is of Louisiana Creole descent with shoulder-length curly cinnamon brown hair and gold eyes. She is marked with a glyph, the letters SPQR, and one stripe for one year of service that she received only a few weeks before Percy arrived. Frank and Leo consider her to be very pretty, while Percy says that Hazel's mother looks just like Hazel, saying Marie Levesque was "beautiful." Percy also describes Hazel as being "darker-skinned," and when Hazel is describing her mother later on she mentions that they had the "same dark complexion, brown as a roasted coffee bean." Also, when patrolling Frank's grandmother's house, Frank talks about how Hazel wore this shirt and jacket, "that made her skin look as warm as cocoa." She is toned and fit and is the shortest of the seven demigods, though she is also the youngest, in stark contrast to Frank Zhang, the tallest of the seven and third oldest. Personality Hazel is bright and outgoing with a love for creativity and horseback riding, but has a dislike for boating and curses. Percy states that she was a great comfort to him and Frank, at times even saying that she seemed confident. Percy also describes her as being very mature for her age, although he felt a little uncomfortable when he started depending on her for comfort, but was glad she was there. Hazel tends to ignore others at times for her own preferences. For example, she carries a cavalry sword while not owning a horse to ride into battle on and she originally didn't want to like Frank because everyone at Camp Jupiter said they would end up together. She feels a massive amount of guilt over releasing Alcyoneus, and thinks it's her responsibility to bring him down. Because of this, Percy initially states that she seems to have a 'deep sadness', despite her easygoing personality. Hazel is initially afraid of her own abilities. She constantly tries to keep others away from her gems, worried that they will be hurt by them; and becomes shaken if anyone comes near them as a result. She seems to have internalised her mother's past view of her as a 'cursed child', as she believes her abilities are dangerous, and feels that she doesn't belong at camp Jupiter. She tries to hide her past as much as she can, believing others would blame her or even see her as monstrous if they found out that she released Alcyoneus. However, she eventually starts to open up to Frank and Percy during their quest to Alaska, sharing her burdens and realising that they trust her even despite knowing about her past. This leads to her feeling more grounded; as she states she doesn't feel like she's divided between the past and present. During her time on the Argo II, she is shown to be very protective and defensive of those she cares about, as she becomes very upset when Jason and Leo question Nico's intentions, leading her to mistrust Jason. She is also stated by Leo to have a lot of nervous energy, and often summons metals when she is thinking. After Annabeth and Percy fall into Tartarus, Hazel feels a sense of guilt for not being able to stop them from getting away from them, especially as she looked up to Percy and felt that both he and Annabeth united the Argo II. After this, she feels the need to take more initiative in the Argo II, becoming increasingly determined to unite the group and keep them safe. This leads her to meeting Hecate, who offers her a limited number of potential paths that the group can take. She refuses the three options that were offered as they wonโ€™t protect her friends, resulting in her being offered a new potential path. She responds boldly to Hecate by telling her she is forming her own pathway. She also starts to attempt to use the mist. While initially fruitless in trying to transform various objects and form illusions, she uses her past and experiences with ghosts to realize that the mist affects what people want to see. She also reflects on the nature of wealth and its similarities with the mist, using her past and embracing her lineage as a child of Pluto for the first time. Her resourcefulness here allows her to further develop her skills with the mist, which she uses when encountering Pasiphae. Her encounter with Pasiphae reminds her of her mother, and she reflects that no child should be treated as if they are a monster, and this is why she views the minotaur as a victim of the story. Towards the end of the Blood of Olympus, Hazel has become more confident, especially with her abilities with the mist, and Nico tells her that this is something she did herself. Hazel can be easily embarrassed, such as through Frank's clumsiness and his attempts to comfort her. Hazel is extremely loyal to her friends and treats them as family, as shown through her friendship with Frank and Percy, as well as the rest of the Fifth Cohort and when she gave up Elysium to go to the Fields of Asphodel so that her mother wouldn't go to the Fields of Punishment. She is also very affectionate, having kissed Percy, Frank, Leo and Nico on the cheek multiple times though most of the time, she gives them sisterly kisses. Abilities ADHD: Like most demigods, Hazel possesses inborn supernatural battle reflexes and senses that she uses to analyze the fighting style of her opponent. Fighting Skills: Hazel is a very skilled user of her Spatha, able to defeat many trained legionnaires in The Son of Neptune during the war games, despite them having more experience than her, she was also able to hold her own to an extent while fighting Clytius by herself when it took 5 demigods and a goddess to defeat him, although she was very nearly killed. She was able to hold her own well with Alcyoneus a giant that is meant to oppose Hades/Pluto and his children, and ultimately defeat him with some help from Frank Zhang and Arion in The Son of Neptune. Hazel was able to fight off these two very strong and ancient giants by herself, therefore, albeit she wasn't as skilled as either and had help in their defeat. In the Second Giant War Hazel is able to hold her own very well against multiple giants, ultimately defeating them with the help of Arion and Hecate. Also, Hazel is able to teach swordsmanship to Piper and train her to also become a skilled swordswoman. Dyslexia: Hazel's brain is "hard-wired" for Latin. French (limited): Hazel speaks Louisiana French, having studied it in school, though she is not fluent. However, her French is so very different from Frank's Canadian French, that they can barely communicate. Horsemanship: Hazel enjoys horseback riding and even trained using a cavalry sword so she could engage in combat while on horseback, which is looked down upon by Romans. She's even able to ride of the immortal horse Arion with no problem. Superhuman Strength : Being a demigod, Hazel is stronger than the average mortal. Superhuman Agility : Being a demigod, Hazel is more agile than the regular human being and has much faster reactions. Superhuman Durability : Being a demigod, a Hazel is more durable than the average mortal, as shown as she survived being hit by a giant, and shook off being hit by one of the strongest giants while traveling at supersonic speed on her horse, Arion. Skilled Trainer: Hazel is shown to be a skilled trainer, as she trained Piper at sword fighting. Piper was able to even go toe to toe with the giant, Periboia and fight the giant, Mimas, because of Hazel's training. Mist Manipulation: According to Hecate in The House of Hades, Hazel has a great potential to manipulate the Mist. Her mother had this ability as well, but Hazel's potential is even greater. She has begun to master this new skill, having successfully tricked Sciron and even defeated the more experienced and powerful sorceress Pasiphaรซ. By The Blood of Olympus, Hazel was capable of conjuring up persuasive illusions, making Percy and Annabeth appear as Earthborn giants, and make Jason appear as an old man. Mnemokinesis: As she has the ability to use the Mist, Hazel can manipulate memories. Mist Travel: During the final battle with the Giants in The Blood of Olympus, Hazel displayed the ability to disappear into the Mist and appear again to strike the enemies.[1] Mist Placement: During her battle with Clytius Hazel has displayed the ability to use the Mist to take objects that are far away from her, and place them right behind her seen in The House of Hades when Hazel used the Mist to take a half dead Percy and Annabeth and over powered Leo who were being choked to death in a dark black smoky mist by Clytius and placed them behind her. She has also displayed this ability when she put the bandit Sciron in front of the cliff, making Jason able to kick him off. [2], [3] Leadership: Hazel is shown to be a great leader as she is a praetor of the Twelfth Legion. Art: Hazel is a particularly gifted and talented artist, as she was able to recreate what Calypso looked like with only Leo's description. As a child of Pluto and one of the seven, Hazel is an extremely powerful demigod with power only rivaling that of other children of the Big Three. She has the following abilities: Geokinesis: Hazel can find any underground caves, tunnels, trapdoors, and change their shapes to suit her needs or destroy them. She was able to find a secret underground tunnel during the War Games in The Son of Neptune. In The House of Hades, Hazel was able to bend the tunnels she fell through back towards Pasiphaรซ. Chrimatakinesis (limited to precious metals and gems): Hazel can control valuable gems and metals. Ferrokinesis (limited to precious metals): Hazel can sense and summon precious metals from under the ground as well as manipulate them, and change it's shape. Sensing Riches: She can also use this ability to sense precious metals or materials, such as gold, silver and diamonds from under the Earth. In The Mark of Athena, Hazel is able to sense the Stygian Iron of Nico's Sword. Summoning and Controlling Riches: She can summon and control tons of precious metal and jewels simultaneously, as shown when she fought with the Amazons named Lulu and Doris; leaving them buried in a mountain of jewelry and when she lifted all the gold in the Gryphon's nests. She had even summoned a dozen of rubies at the giant, Clytius with so much force that it punctured his metal armor and even staggered the giant and wounded him. Telumkinesis (limited): Because Hazel has her Ferrokinesis, she has some control over weapons but not as much as control as a child of Ares would have. This was shown when she summoned Jason's golden gladius from the ocean. Death Sense: Much like her half-brother Nico, Hazel states in The Son of Neptune that she can sense death, or a creature that has died like the basilisks that Gray killed. She was also able to sense Gray, an undead warrior that returned to the Earth after it had killed the monsters, before she saw it. Leo also noted in The Mark of Athena that Hazel and Nico shared a look likely comparing children of Hades/Pluto "death radar" notes when Percy and Annabeth fell into Tartarus. However, her sense seems to be somewhat weaker than Nico's, as only the latter was able to tell when Percy and Annabeth had approached the Doors of Death in The House of Hades. Her powers were enough however to allow her to see and sense the powers of the Doors of Death which only Nico and Jason were able to do. Shadow Travel: In The House of Hades, she and Nico are able to shadow-travel themselves and six other demigods out of the Necromanteion and back to the surface, despite Hazel stating that she had never tried to shadow-travel before that instance. However, it is assumed that shadow travel takes away a lot of her energy. Flashbacks: Hazel is able to look back at events from her life before she died. At first she is unable to control when these flashbacks would happen as they would be triggered by thinking about the past too long. Eventually she gained the ability to control them after having shared a flashback with Frank Zhang in The Son of Neptune. She has some control over what she sees after this and is able to show Leo Valdez a memory of Sammy Valdez from her past in The Mark of Athena, but is then taken into Leo's memory, something she didn't expect. Nico thinks this happened because of her time in the Underworld, but it is still unclear how this power works. Necromancy (possibly): It is unknown whether she can actually utilise this ability but since most other children of Hades were able to summon and control the dead, it is assumed Hazel can too. Osteokinesis: Hazel is able to control bones, as she was able to send a pair of Skeleton Warriors away just by willing it when she and three others where scouting out Tarquinโ€™s Tomb. Magical Items Spatha: Hazel fights with an Imperial Gold spatha, a Roman cavalry sword. Frank's Stick: In The Son of Neptune, Frank trusted the daughter of Pluto with his life line which she has kept for most of their quest to Athens. However, after Leo gave Frank a fire-proof bag to keep the stick in, Hazel gives it back to Frank, feeling a little disappointed in having to give it back. Reyna's cloak: After Hazel becomes the Praetor of the Twelfth Legion, she is given Reyna's old cloak. Praetor badge: After Hazel becomes the Praetor of the Twelfth Legion, she is given Reyna's old badge of office. Jason Grace was described to be extremely handsome, and he was arguably the most attractive demigod in the series. Jason had the regal features of a Roman statue, electric blue eyes, and close-cropped blond hair that grew out during his time at Camp Half-Blood. Jason also had a small scar on the corner of his lip from trying to eat a stapler when he was two years old. Piper noted that the scar made him look even more attractive. Piper said that his face was kind and gentle but always looked a little sad. Jason looked nothing like his father. Instead, he looked more like his mother. Jason was very tall, he was one inch taller than {{char}} at the beginning of the quest, despite being nearly a year younger. Jason had a very athletic build; Piper said that Jason was more muscular than Percy. Leo described Jason to be "rugged" and handsome multiple times throughout the series. Leo also felt uncomfortable and jealous next him since Jason was really attractive. He had well-muscled, tanned arms and legs. His tattoo had the picture of an eagle with SPQR and twelve lines, indicating he had been at Camp Jupiter since he was three or four years old. Piper noted that his eyes seemed to hold some deep sadness, much like her father. Jason's looks attracted attention; two daughters of Aphrodite, Drew Tanaka and Piper McLean, fell in love with Jason because of his good looks. Also, when Aphrodite gave Jason's team a makeover, Jason was the least modified, implying that Aphrodite approves of his physical attributes. Other women have fallen in love with Jason Grace and complimented his looks, like Reyna. In The Mark of Athena, Annabeth Chase says that Jason was "ruggedly handsome" and he "looked too perfect," which was why she didn't trust him. {{char}} described Jason as looking like "blond Superman" when he's flying. In The House of Hades, Leo Valdez states that if Jason landed on Ogygia instead, Calypso would fall in love with him due to his attractiveness and beg Jason to stay. After his encounter with Sciron, Jason's hair had a groove in it since a Celestial Bronze bullet grazed him. Later in the quest, Piper said that Jason had grown taller, his body had become more slender, and his hair had become longer and shaggier, giving it a "rebellious" look. In The Blood of Olympus, Reyna described Jason to be the "All-American Boy" (and he's the only demigod Reyna complimented in terms of appearance). Reyna also says that Jason's electric blue eyes are intense, alert, and distracting. Nico says Jason looked like a fighter since he's constantly alert, has a lot of energy in his frame, and his stare is very intense. Nico describes Jason's blond hair to be shaggy like Will Solace. Eventually, Jason started wearing glasses made out of Imperial Gold due to being diagnosed by Asclepius as nearsighted. Also, throughout the series, Khione (a beautiful snow goddess) was shown to be attracted to Jason's appearance. Khione genuinely wanted Jason to be one of her ice statues and was delighted when he became one. Khione later admits that she hated Piper for taking Jason away from her. In The Burning Maze, Jason's hair was cut short again and had its original close-cropped style. Jason wore a regular school uniform and black-rimmed glasses. Apollo says that Jason looked quite "impressive" in terms of his physical appearance. During Jason's adventure, he wore his glasses, dress shirt, slacks, and loafers. Apollo said Jason's outfit made him look like a paralegal. Personality But if a hero isn't ready to lose everything for a greater cause, is that person really a hero? JASON TO APOLLO ON BEING A HERO IN THE TOWER OF NERO. Jason Grace was a very responsible, kind, and open-minded person. Since he was not given a point of view until The Heroes of Olympus, much of his retroactive personality and quirks must be deduced from his memories and friendships but it was the general consensus that all who knew him thought him to be a very honorable and selfless person. Much of Jason's personality derived from how his parentage caused him to be placed on a pedestal. On the outside, a lot of people initially regarded Jason as too perfect and straight-laced, with Reyna even thinking of him as the perfect 'all-American boy.' Due to the duality of Hera's scheme to join the camps, Jason was often seen as the opposite of Percy which causes people who really like Percy (like Annabeth and Hazel) to initially dislike/distrust Jason. In actuality, Jason was more similar than dissimilar to Percy. As centurion and then praetor, Jason mentions that there were multiple times when he chafed against the stringent rules and expectations of the legion. Although Jason followed rules and obeyed authority most of the time, he was actually a staunch proponent of change whenever he noticed someone was being treated unfairly. This can seen when he stood up to Zeus and called him 'unwise' for blaming the entirety of the Gaia crisis Apollo; or again when he dedicates himself towards giving minor gods the respect and recognition they deserve. Jason had a tough time figuring out who he was and who he wanted to be. He came to resent being a son of Jupiter and thought his parentage was trapping him into a destiny he couldn't control - he hated that he was forced to be a leader, and treated like a prince-in-waiting. Jason's stay at Camp Half-Blood was quite transformative for him and without the pressure of the legion he becomes much more laid-back and introspective. He begins to break rules and crack jokes. He even allows his hair to grow out and become messier. Even though he enjoys his time there, it causes Jason to have an identity crisis because he feels as though he was betraying his roots and the people who have for so long followed him and given him a home. Jason thought he solved it by deciding to be Greek and resigning as Praetor in the House of Hades, but he questioned who he was even more after being stabbed by Michael Varus in Ithaca. Finally, as he faced Kymopoleia, Jason realized that he was both Greek and Roman. Both camps were a part of his family, and he decided to become a Pontifex Maximus. Afterwards he had no problem accepting his parentage and recognized Zeus as his father just as much as Jupiter. It should be noted that Jason's tumultuous childhood left him with deep-seated abandonment issues. Being deprived of the presence and memory of his sister and mother, he often felt alone and grew up believing he came from nothing. It was due to this, that what he learned at the Wolf House became the very formative pillars of his character - such as not showing weakness or insecurity, which sometimes caused others to see him as aloof and cold. He thinks of rules as promises he needs to keep, which was why he always hesitates before breaking them. A particular point of pain for Jason was learning about the life and subsequent death of his mother, and seeing her mania at Ithaca left him distressed. Jason can also be too noble and brave and often disregards his own safety for the sake of his loved ones, such as when he challenged Porphyrion without a weapon and dueled the emperor Caligula by himself, subsequently resulting in his own death. Jason was also quite oblivious of peoples romantic feelings towards him (similar to Percy). Jason didn't realize that Reyna had a crush on him for years despite them being very close. Jason also didn't know Reyna was "cursed" by Aphrodite while the rest of Camp Jupiter did. Jason also didn't realize that Piper was jealous of Reyna while other Argo II members did, like Annabeth Chase and Hazel. However despite this lack of self-awareness, one of Jason's defining features was that he was very caring and often tries to help his loved ones overcome personal wassues. There are countless examples of this within the series such as Jason befriending Nico and immediately being accepting and supportive of his sexuality when he was outed by Cupid; Jason always befriending the unpopular kids at Camp Jupiter; and throughout The Lost Hero always trying to make Leo feel confident and wanted. He knew his friends very well and was the only person who can read Reyna's body language and understand when she was weary and tired, something other people cannot notice. It was in part because of his loving and enduring personality that his death was felt far and wide by all who knew him and even those who didn't. Lastly, Jason's honorable personality made him favored by the gods. Hera considers Jason to be her champion and holds a motherly love for him. Athena approves of Jason and Artemis thanks him in The Blood of Olympus. Zeus [before Jason spoke against him] was proud of his son for his bravery during the quest. Apollo loved Jason dearly (despite not knowing him for long) and his death had a massive impact on him. In The Tower of Nero, Hera accuses her husband of not caring that Jason was dead, although Zeus insists that there was nothing he could have done to save him. In turn, Hera was shown to be deeply grieving the loss of Jason despite her usual dislike for her husband's demigod children. Abilities You defeated, like, two hundred enemies, Piper said. You were scary amazing. PIPER MCLEAN TALKING ABOUT JASON'S FEAT ADHD: Like most demigods, he possesses inborn supernatural battle reflexes and senses that he uses to analyze the fighting style of his opponent. Dyslexia: His brain is hardwired for Latin. Swordsmanship: Jason is arguably one of the best swordsmen in the series, alongside Percy and Luke Castellan. Jason's swordsmanship was on par with {{char}}, who is regarded as the best swordsman in the last 100 years at Camp Half-Blood. In The Mark of Athena, Jason's swordsmanship was on even footing against Percy during their fight at Kansas to the point that Piper couldn't believe the speed of their sword fighting. During the fight, Jason had eventually overpowered Percy and had the opportunity to stab him in the face, but Jason was later distracted by Piper's charmspeaking. Furthermore, during the fight at Kansas, Jason was distracted by Piper's charmspeaking twice but still managed to dual Percy equally, which most demigods cannot say. Also, in The Burning Maze, Apollo notes the calluses on Jason's hands, which is proof that he did not get rusty in sword fightning. Polearmsmanship: In The Blood of Olympus, Jason showed himself to be a remarkable spear user. Jason managed to defeat "two hundred ghosts" of the suitors by himself, mostly with his spear. Jason annihilated this army completely unscathed; he was only injured later because he thought the fight was over and dropped his guard. Otherwise, it was a flawless victory. Also, Jason managed to defeat a master Greek swordsman Lityerses by himself with his spear. Dreams: Like most demigods, Jason had dreams that showed him different events. In The House of Hades, Jason had a dream showing him a conversation between Rachel and Reyna. In that vision, Jason learned that Reyna was flying to Greece to fulfill a promise they made to each other as kids. Also, in The Lost Hero, Jason had several dreams. He met with Hera, and eventually Lupa, who helped him on his quest. Fighting Skills: Jason's fighting skills are amazing as he bested Kronos' brother, Krios, in hand-to-hand combat. Most importantly, in The House of Hades, Tartarus calls Iapetus weaker than his brother Krios. Iapetus almost defeated Percy, Thalia Grace, and Nico di Angelo. Since Krios is a stronger Titan than Iapetus, it's a remarkable feat for Jason to kill Krios by himself with his bare hands. Most importantly, Jason Grace is the only demigod to kill a Titan alone, a feat that Percy and Nico do not have. Furthermore, Jason killing Krios by himself is a feat only Hercules has accomplished, and he is technically Jason's older brother. He also killed the Trojan Sea Monster, who is described by Chiron to be "the size of a Skyscraper," making it one of the largest monsters in the series. Jason easily defeated a master Greek swordsman Lityerses, and dominated Mount Othrys by fighting through hordes of Scythian Dracanae and toppling Kronos' black throne. He had easily killed the powerful storm spirits in The Lost Hero, and was holding his own against one of Medea's golden dragons. He has also proven that he can hold his own against larger, more experienced, and more powerful opponents by himself. For example, Jason fought the Giant Enceladus alone. Even though Zeus landed the killing blow with a lightning bolt, Jason did most of the work. Also, Jason fought Polybotes underwater and defeated the Giant. In The Blood of Olympus, Jason ultimately kills the Giant King Porphyrion, the most powerful Giant, with Zeus's help. Jason has also helped defeat six giants in total, the most out of any hero on the quest. As stated previously, Jason is one of the only demigods to be equal to Percy in combat. Percy later states in The Son of Sobek that not many people can fight him well, indicating that Jason is a better fighter than most. Because Jason is trained in Roman legionary warfare, his fighting style includes analyzing your opponents' moves and learning their style. This was proven effective against Lityerses (a master Greek swordsman), who eventually lost to Jason's combat prowess. Like Reyna, Jason can even use improvised weapons to fight as he used a wooden plank in the Wolf House in The Lost Hero to fend off numerous opponents. In the final battle against Gaea's troops at Camp Half-Blood, Jason fought on the front lines and managed to kill numerous monsters before he helped defeat Gaea. When Jason fought Gaea, he created a storm powerful enough to help defeat her. Finally, in The Burning Maze, Jason defeated several Pandai on his own. Pandai are extremely powerful monsters, and Jason blasted them to dust with lightning. Superhuman Strength: Being a son of Jupiter, Jason is far stronger than the average mortal and most demigods. Jason knocked out demigods and full-grown wolves with one blow. Jason also toppled Kronos's black throne, deflected blows from giants, and shattered Clytius's metal armor with one kick which is an impressive feat. He threw Coach Hedge's club at Dylan, even when it was extremely windy. On several occasions, Jason managed to lift multiple people while flying. His most impressive feat is when he destroyed Krios with his "own hands." Superhuman Agility: Being a demigod, Jason is a lot more agile than a regular mortal. In The Mark of Athena, Annabeth states that Jason moved like an acrobat when he leaped over Dakota and knocked him out. The House of Hades, Jason was fast enough to deflect Cupid's arrows that materialized from thin air. In The Blood of Olympus, when Jason was underwater, he could dash 30 feet in mere seconds by utilizing his storm spirit. This makes Jason one of the fastest demigods in the series. Superhuman Durability: Jason is shown to be far more durable than a mortal and most demigods. Jason was able to withstand powerful attacks by a giant, shook off getting hit by a chariot in mid-air, and only managed minor injuries when getting hit by an explosion caused by breaking his magical spear. Jason fell from the sky into the Cyclops' home during The Lost Hero but had shown no signs of discomfort. He even managed to shake off several hits from the god, Eros. Superhuman Reflexes: Jason has incredible reflexes, which is proven throughout the series. In The Lost Hero he dodged Enceladus attacks even when the earth was pulling him down. Lityerse, a master Greek swordsman who is regarded as a fast fighter, couldn't land a blow on Jason because he easily dodged them. Also, Jason avoided a giant spear thrown by Otis, the giant. Most importantly, in The House of Hades. Jason deflected Cupid's arrows which materialized from thin air. Genius Intellect: Like Annabeth Chase, Jason is one of the most intelligent demigods in the series. Jason is highly knowledgeable in history, and both Greek and Roman myths. Jason also possesses a great deal of knowledge about monsters, which was helpful during the quest. Jason helped Annabeth uncover the mysteries of the Mark of Athena, tricked Midas to turn Lityerses into gold, and convinced Kymopoleia to help him defeat Polybotes (since both a demigod and god is needed to defeat a giant). Leadership Skills: Jason is the former Praetor of Camp Jupiter and is one of the most outstanding leaders throughout the series. Hazel said Jason was a great and natural leader. Leo and Piper have described Jason to be the natural leader of their group. Frank, who is a master tactician, looked to Jason for leadership during the quest. In The House of Hades, after Annabeth fell inside the Tartarus, Jason took the leadership role and was looked at for decision-making. Jason was also a centurion for several years before becoming Praetor. Jason's most remarkable achievement was leading the legion through Mount Othrys which, according to Hazel, had "a million" monsters. This eventually led to Jason being raised on a shield to become Praetor. Intimidation: Each Roman demigod trained at the Wolf House has mastered the wolf-stare, a skill that intimidates their enemies so it is assumed Jason has learned it. Leo also noted that Jason can be very scary when he is about to summon lightning. Bravery: Jason is one of the bravest heroes in the series. Despite facing large and powerful monsters, giants, and a Titan, Jason is not afraid to fight them alone. In The Burning Maze, Jason knew someone was going to die from the prophecy and sacrificed himself without hesitation to save Piper. Jason also stood his ground when Nico radiated his aura of fear. Willpower: Jason has shown immense willpower through the story. After suffering a fatal injury in The Blood of Olympus, Jason ignored the pain and continued to push forward and fight. Jason also summoned a hurricane and "a legion" of venti against Gaea while holding onto Piper and flying. Finally, when Nico radiated his aura of fear, Jason stood his ground and reached out to him which most demigods would not do. Medical Skills: Jason has shown that he has some medical experience, as he was able to fix Piper's hurt foot with just a piece of wood, gauze, and duct tape. As much as Hazel feared fire, she feared storms more. Jason Grace could cause some pretty huge storms. HAZEL LEVESQUE TALKING ABOUT JASON'S STORMS Being the son of Jupiter, he is an extremely powerful demigod, who not only has authority over creatures of the sky but can also influence the forces of weather and can control the air around him. During his time at Camp Jupiter, Jason was considered the most powerful demigod in the legion. Jason is the only demigod in the series to kill a Titan by himself, and even killed the Trojan Sea Monster which is the "size of a skyscraper" according to Chiron making it one of the largest monsters in the series. In The Heroes of Olympus, Jason is shown to be a part of the Seven, making Jason one of the most powerful demigods in the world. Jason is one of the only demigods that can rival {{char}}. Jason helped take down six Gigantes, the most out of any hero on the Argo II, and summoned a hurricane that helped take down Gaea, the strongest antagonist in the series. In The Burning Maze, Jason fought Pandai's who are extremely powerful monsters. He later defeats the Pandai by blasting them to dust with lightning bolts. Hazel believes that Jason is the most powerful demigod in Camp Jupiter. However, Hazel later states that Nico "might" be able to rival him, and eventually Percy was the strongest she knew which Nico agreed with in The Mark of Athena. In The Blood of Olympus, Dylan states that Jason has now become significantly more powerful than he was during their first meeting in The Lost Hero. Jason is a jack of all trades. Jason is a master swordsman and spearman. He is the only demigod that can consistently utilize 2 elements, lightning and air. Jason can fly, summon "a legion" of venti to increase his number (like a child of Hades), and can be very destructive when he controls the weather. All of this makes Jason one of the strongest demigods in the entire series. Aerokinesis: As a son of Jupiter, he can control and manipulate the air. Air Blasts: He can control, and generate very powerful winds and air currents, enough to instantly knock the Giant Otis down in The Mark of Athena, and a stronger one that sends Porphyrion himself flying in The Blood of Olympus. Air Dash: When Jason dominates a chaotic venti, he can wrap it around his body, which looks like a tornado (according to Percy). Jason's venti is able to dash long distances in an extremely short amount of time. Jason managed to dodge Polybotes's attack underwater by dashing 30 feet in mere seconds. Flying: He can ride air currents, making him fly. He can fly for hours without tiring. Jason also managed to fly while carrying Piper, summoning a hurricane, and dealing with Gaea's attacks. This shows that Jason's ability to fly has improved greatly over the series. Air Solidification: Jason has shown to be able to shape and condense the air in different forms. In The Blood of Olympus, Jason condensed the air around Gaea, a primordial goddess. This prevented Gaea from attacking him (and Piper) while sealing her away. Wind Manipulation: Jason can manipulate powerful winds generated from other sources. In both The Lost Hero and The House of Hades, Jason utilized powerful winds from the wind gods. Also, in The Burning Maze, Jason manipulated winds created from Medea's tornado-prisms and blasted his opponents away. Jason protected his allies (Apollo, Piper, and Meg) from powerful winds that could've killed them. Air Ropes: In The House of Hades, Jason managed to create air ropes which helped him harness the wind gods. Jason then used these air ropes to help the Argo II travel across the world to help Percy and Annabeth. Seeing Air Magic: He could see a path in the air, leading him to Boreas's palace in The Lost Hero. Venti Control: He is able to dominate the will of more chaotic venti. Atmokinesis: As a son of Jupiter, he can control the weather. in The Mark of Athena Jason summoned powerful rainstorms and thunderstorms. In The Blood of Olympus, Jason's weather control grew and he summoned a hurricane against Gaea Storm Generation: He can generate fierce storms, as seen throughout the series. In The Mark of Athena Jason and Percy combined forces to generate a powerful storm against the Romans at Fort Sumter. This storm obliterates the legion, but Annabeth noticed that she wasn't affected by the powerful winds. This means that Jason and Percy can control their storms to damage enemies while protecting allies. Jason's skill with this ability grows to such that in The Blood of Olympus he managed to summon a hurricane powerful enough to wound Gaea with an unrelenting bombardment of lightning and powerful winds. Rainstorms: In The Mark of Athena, Jason summoned a powerful rainstorm that flooded a chamber, almost drowning Percy, Piper, and himself. Thunderstorms: Throughout the series, Jason has summoned fierce thunderstorms. In The House of Hades, Hazel states that she fears storms more than fire and that Jason can "cause some pretty huge storms." Hurricanes: In The Blood of Olympus, Jason's ability to control the weather has improved tremendously. Nico di Angelo states that Jason summoned a hurricane against Gaea. Tornado Manipulation: In The Burning Maze, Jason managed to explode two of Medea's mini-tornadoes. Furthermore, Jason managed to control the powerful winds from the explosion. Apollo admits they would've died, but Jason channeled the winds in different directions away from his allies. Storm Venti Control: As shown in The Blood of Olympus, Jason can summon storm venti for a variety of purposes. Jason can use them to breathe underwater and dash around at high speeds. He easily dominated Dylan (a very powerful venti) and utilized him as a tornado. Jason also tamed Tempest, a very chaotic storm horse. Later, he summoned "a legion" of Venti to amplify the storm he used to bombard Gaea. Electrokinesis: As a son of Jupiter, Jason has a great amount of control over electricity and lightning. His ability to summon lightning bolts improves throughout the series. Lightning Bolts: Jason's ability to use lightning bolt's improves significantly throughout the series. He can summon extremely powerful lightning bolts from the sky, which Piper compared to an artillery shell in The Lost Hero. His lightning bolt was strong enough to destroy King Midas's mansion, which was made out of gold. He would go on to summon lightning powerful enough to stagger the giant king, Porphyrion and blacken his face. As the series progressed, his lightning bolts became more powerful and took less effort to summon them. It is mentioned to make him feel faint in The Lost Hero, the effort required dramatically reduces by The Blood of Olympus. Once, his lightning knocked Percy off his horse and he used that opportunity to almost stab Percy in the face. Jason had summoned enough lightning to melt iron nearly instantly in The House of Hades. In The Blood of Olympus, he managed to summon a lightning bolt powerful enough to destroy a host of basilisks, despite being underwater. In the final battle against the Giants, he used a lightning bolt to augment himself when he leapt at Porphyrion, knocking the Giant King to his knees. Finally, in The Burning Maze Jason managed to kill several Pandai by himself. Pandai are some of the most powerful monsters in the series, and Jason blasted them to dust with Lightning. Electrical Immunity: He is completely immune to electricity, having survived being struck by an electrical bolt "strong enough to kill twenty people" in The Lost Hero. He also survived a direct hit from one of Jupiter's lightning bolts that passed through both Jason and Enceladus and was still powerful enough to split the ground beneath them. Static Electricity: Like his sister, he can generate huge bolts and arcs of static electricity. Static Shocks: He can send strong electrical shocks through others on contact. One of his static shocks was powerful enough to send Khione herself sliding across the floor, even though unintentionally. Electrogenesis: Jason can create electricity from thin air. In The Blood of Olympus, Jason was able to produce electricity underwater against Polybotes. In The Mark of Athena, Jason's entire body unintentionally sent out an electrical explosion that blew Percy and Piper away. Finally, in The Burning Maze, Apollo's group couldn't stay hidden since Jason's dress shirt was bursting with electricity. Jason himself is a source of electricity. Electrical Conductivity: In The Blood of Olympus, Jason was able to fry Polybotes' basilisks with electrical tendrils underwater without electrocuting Percy in the process. Electric Sense: Jason can sense incoming lightning bolts like his sister. In The Lost Hero, he sensed the lightning bolt that Jupiter sent down to help him kill Enceladus. In midair he willed his blade to extend into a javelin โ€“ a trick he'd never tried with this sword โ€“ but somehow he knew it would work. JASON TURNING HIS GLADIUS INTO A LONG-RANGE JAVELIN Ivlivs Ivlivs, his coin IVLIVS: A coin made of Imperial Gold. It turns into a golden sword on heads and a golden javelin on tails when flipped. The weapon hasn't been named yet in the series, but the coin has the word 'Ivlivs' on it, which is Latin for 'Julius.' It was destroyed by Enceladus during his and Jason's fight on Mount Diablo. Gladius: Juno, the Roman form of Hera and Jason's patron, gives this to him at the end, so that he has a proper weapon. It is a Roman Gladius made of Imperial Gold. Magical Pets/Companions Tempest - A chaotic storm spirit that was in the form of a horse made out of electricity and thunderclouds. It was found and tamed by Jason in The Lost Hero. Jason was later able to summon him for help in The Mark of Athena. During The Burning Maze, Tempest was seen returning Jason's body to his friends after he was killed by Caligula. Octavian was a tall, skinny 18-year-old youth with blond hair, crazed blue eyes, and skin as pale as Nico's. It is also mentioned that Octavian reminded Percy of someone, it is unknown which character this refers to. Octavian usually insists he resembles his namesake, Augustus Ceaser, who was known as Octavian. He often held a ceremonial knife and stuffed animal on hand. His tattoo was composed of a lyre, the symbol of his ancestor Apollo, with SPQR inscribed above seven lines which represented seven years meaning that he had been attending Camp Jupiter since he was about eleven. Octavian's usual attire consisted of a white toga over a baggy shirt and jeans or cargo pants. In The Son of Neptune, at the muster, he is seen wearing multiple medals over his armor. When he appointed himself Pontifex Maximus in The Blood of Olympus, Octavian began to wear full senatorial garb. Later, during the battle, he donned Imperial Gold armor and jewelry, along with flowing purple robes. Personality Octavian was an arrogant, jingoistic, condescending, Machiavellian individual. Much like the Roman ideal, he was ambitious and followed the rules, at least on the surface. Unfortunately for anyone who crossed him, Octavian was highly intelligent, callous, cunning, and manipulative. Octavian was deeply knowledgeable of Roman history, including the fact that the Greek demigods were once enemies of the Roman ones. At times, he is portrayed as a potential threat if one became enemies with him. {{char}}, however, is unimpressed by him. Octavian seemed to want to protect Camp Jupiter and its legionaries. His plan of attack against the Greek camp notably involved no Roman demigod casulties. Octavian was willing to delay the attack in order for this specific plan to be used. Octavian demands respect towards his people's rules, traditions, and culture, though he is seen to be willing to adjust to new methods (such as using stuffed animals instead of real ones in his auguries). While Octavian has the same general bias against Greek demigods that the rest of the legion has, Octavian grows increasingly hostile towards them over the course of the books. Octavian often has an air of desperation about him, raising his voice constantly, and reacts dramatically to situations. Most of the time he was able to insult others discretely. He is also, occasionally, able to win favor in the Senate, even over Reyna herself. Octavian was shown to be ruthless, perhaps even sadistic, as he did his best to painfully burn Percy when giving him his SPQR tattoo. Octavian seemed to value cruelty in others too, since he allied himself with the infamously brutal Bryce Lawrence, and also wanted Nico di Angelo as an ally, since he claimed to see a decent amount of ruthlessness in the son of Hades, which Octavian greatly appreciated. In The Blood of Olympus, Octavian is shown as narrow-minded, arrogant, and downright foolish, as even the gods (mainly Apollo) condemn him and his actions. He disobeys Reyna's orders and recruits disloyal mercenaries and demigods of doubtful and malicious character. His rage towards the Greeks and rash actions ultimately lead him to his horrific death. Throughout the series, Octavian's mental health significantly deteriorates, culminating in the final battle. At this point, Octavian appears to have gone completely insane and was beyond any and all reason at the time of his death. The rising of Gaea, his failure to destroy the Greeks in time, the return of Reyna with the Athena Parthenos pushing him over the edge into complete madness. During his final confrontation with Nico and Will, his laugh is stated to be "brittle and quite insane". Octavian takes the storm caused by Jason as a sign from the gods that he's doing the right thing and declares everyone who is not supporting him to all be traitors. That being said, some of Octavian's words seem to indicate he knows of his imminent death and that he believes that he needs to attack Gaea in order to become a hero. Abilities ADHD: Like most demigods and legacies, Octavian possesses inborn supernatural battle reflexes and senses that he uses to analyze the fighting style of his opponent. Oratory Skills: Octavian is a very skilled orator (something even Percy himself acknowledges in The Son of Neptune), effectively using words to achieve his goals. Most of the time he is able to insult others discretely, which is how Octavian is occasionally able to win favor in the council, even over Reyna herself at times. One of the very few characters to surpass Octavian in oratory skills is Nero. Fighting Skills: As the Centurion of the First Cohort, Octavian has some combat skill, but he was effortlessly defeated by Percy during the war games in The Son of Neptune and was described by many to not look like the fighting type. Prophecy: Being a legacy of Apollo, Octavian can interpret the will of the gods by reading the interior of animal entrails, though he uses stuffed animals rather than actual sacrifices. However, this ability isn't perfect and the messages will sometimes vary between two or more messages. During the Greek-Roman War, Octavian's power of prophecy stopped working. The reason for this is unknown but coincides with the loss of Delphi to Python. While some suspected he was faking having the power of prophecy the whole time, many of Octavian's predictions came to true in the end.
