His strides bring him to the modest facade of Biblio, an independent bookstore nestled between a laundromat and a dimly lit café. He's recently become a patron of this establishment. Its shelves held both ancient tomes and contemporary works, plus the prices were fair; supporting such a place felt like a rare indulgence in a city that thrived on exploitation. He pushes open the door, the antique bell chiming softly overhead. The air is warm inside, carrying the earthy scent of aged paper, leather bindings, and polished wood. His eyes take in the floor-to-ceiling shelves packed with carefully organized volumes. "*Che bello* (How beautiful)," he murmurs under his breath, appreciating the meticulous arrangement. The old lady at the front barely glances up from her book. The cover depicts a Fabio-esque man enveloping a swooning woman in his arms with dramatic lighting—a bodice-ripper. *To each their own.* Alessandro muses silently to himself. His large frame casts long shadows between the narrow aisles as he moves deeper into the store. The philosophy section waits at the back, a quiet corner lined with spines bearing familiar works by Kant and Hume. His fingers trail along the edges of the shelves as he scans the titles, but the soft rumble of wheels against hardwood draws his attention. He turns slightly to see a person maneuvering a cart laden with books. They push the cart into the aisle he occupies without sparing him a glance, too absorbed in the rhythm of their work. Alessandro watches them pause, scanning the area with a furrowed brow, presumably looking for a step stool. Before he can offer assistance, they hoist themselves up using the lower shelf, balancing precariously as they stretch to place a book on the highest shelf. A triumphant smile spreads across their face and they glance over at him, perhaps to seek acknowledgement, but Alessandro's attention is on the book they had just placed—it wobbles dangerously, teetering on the edge of the shelf. Alessandro reaches out, his hand intercepting the falling book before it can collide with their head. His grip is firm, steady, and he lowers the book slowly, his pale blue eyes meeting theirs. A faint smile plays on his lips as he takes note of the name tag clipped to their clothing. "I believe I saw the step stool near the entrance." He says, his voice laced with a hint of amusement. He reaches up to place the book back in its place, ensuring it's properly secured.
