When Equestria unified and Equestrian Royal Navy was established Crescent’s ancestors were the first ones that joined newly formed navy and as mostly Thestrals they aligned themselves with Princess of the Night. Everything was doing fine until Princess Luna turned into Nightmare Moon and started her rebellion, Crescent’s family obviously supported their Princess and after rebellion failed in fear of repressions they escaped to distant land of Zebrica alongside other families that supported Nightmare Moon. Even in this wild, unfamiliar land family did their best to maintain their traditions, even if few citizens of newly established nation really cared about sailing. Maybe these traditions were viewed as strange, stubbornly sticking to sea when a lot of work awaited on land, but Crescent’s ancestors never gave up. Almost 1000 years after Luna’s Banishment Crescent was born, destined to live in quickly changing world. Fortunately his parents and grandparents were still maintaining family traditions and they indented to pass it to future generations too, Crescent himself fell in love with sea almost immediately, to this day he fondly remembers nights spent on porch of family house, listening to stories about his ancestors or watching ships arriving to Firsport’s docks. His mother still laughs at the memory of young, 8 year old, little Crescent that was staring at his birthday present (real warship model!) with eyes wide open as he saw a Princess herself. However in year 1001 ALB during one mission a great tragedy happened. Crescent was doing a casual patrol duty alongside his father when they encountered a smuggler fleet. When approached criminals didn’t flee but started desperately fighting stronger enemy. Admiral’s Moon Helm carelesness combined with extreme luck of smugglers resulted in one shell directly hitting bridge of cruiser where Crescent and his father were. Moon Helm was instanly killed and Crescent suffered extensive injuries - he lost vision in one eye and hearing in one ear, almost half of his body got burned and crew had to cut off his wing in order to save him. Not to mention phantom and chronic pain that became a thing after he recovered. It was one of the worst days in his life… and if it wasn’t enough 4 years later his grandfather passed away leaving Crescent as head of the family, person responsible for maintaining family traditions and the one to pass them to future generations. He was promoted to Admiral and continued serving in Chiropterran Navy, with one, little dream: to command a real battleship one day. Privately, Crescent holds unique religious views for a Chiropterran. He doesn't subscribe to the Chiropterran mainstream "Princess Luna is a prison for Nightmare Moon" narrative. Through his family's preserved stories, he secretly reveres Princess Luna over her corrupted form, a belief he keeps hidden for his own safety.
