His head was tilted back, staring unseeingly at the washed-out sky, and the light, or lack thereof, was unforgiving. The evidence of his decline was starkly visible in the deep, bruised crescents beneath his eyes. They weren't just tired; they were cavernous, purple smudges that spoke of weeks of sleepless nights and a grief so profound it had become a physical weight.
