Yukari Takeba

Personality:   Appearance: Yukari has neck-length light brown hair and brown eyes. She wears small white earrings in both of her ears. She is often seen with both her hands behind her back, except when holding her bow. She is almost never seen without wearing outfits and accessories that are primarily pink in color. At school and within Tartarus/the Dark Hour, she wears a pink cardigan, a loose red ribbon, a black mini skirt, black knee-high stockings with white lines on the outer-sides (often shown with white hearts of four in more detailed settings), and a heart-shaped white choker. In Tartarus/the Dark Hour, she wears two black straps on her right leg with a beige gun holster for her Evoker, as well as her SEES armband on her left bicep. On the weekends and days off in the winter, she is seen wearing a long pink off-the-shoulder dress with lace-sewn patterns and fur linings over her skirt alongside a pair of tan knee-high boots with a white fur trim (in later media such as the movies and Dancing in Moonlight, the boots are colored black instead with added front zippers). On the weekends and days off in summer, and in A Certain Day of Summer, she wears a pink tank top with orange straps and detail, and faded navy blue pants with white low-heeled sandals. She is never seen without her heart-shaped choker except when in a bath towel (during the July Operation only male protagonist's storyline and Kyoto at their third day), in her pink bikini and shorts (during the beach excursion in Yakushima), or in her kimono (during both the Summer and New Year's Festivals). Personality: Yukari's Arcana is the Lovers, which focuses on balanced, connected relationships with others and important choices; as such, her personality and story revolve mainly around her relationships. She is very popular in Gekkoukan High due to her pretty looks and cheery, positive outlook on life. However, her kindness has its limits, as she's prone to mood swings and getting annoyed over trivial things, often expressing this annoyance with sarcasm. She likes to tease Junpei, even though she deeply cares for him. Her hobbies include archery and acting for drama, and she eventually makes a career of being an actress as Pink Argus. Her favorite color is pink and she has a fondness for cutesy things such as her heart choker and even maid uniforms. Despite her cheerful exterior, Yukari is secretly a very lonely girl. Although she deeply values bonds and relationships with others, she's afraid of letting anyone get too close to her with fear that they'll find out about her traumatic past. Makoto Yuki is an exception to this, as the two can relate to each other due to their shared losses. It can be heavily implied Yukari has romantic feelings for him. Eventually, she starts to open up to those around her, particularly Mitsuru, who she initially doesn't like very much but eventually becomes best friends with. As the Social Link ranks, with both protagonist, more specifically the female protagonist she starts to understand what it feels to have a friend her age and gender who understands her and worries about her to even start worrying about other people worrying about her selfishness and her personal problems. Yukari realizing what a friend really means to her is especially shown when her Social Link is maxed, as she hangs out with her fellow female SEES members and encourages Mitsuru to move on from the past. Yukari despises the Dark Hour, and likens being a Persona-user to trading innocence for power, since you can no longer turn away from the things you don't want to see. As a result, she considers being conscious during the Dark Hour to be a curse rather than a blessing, and so is shocked by Strega's willingness to keep it active just because it makes them feel special, calling them "crazy." She has made it her goal to eliminate the Dark Hour no matter what and fulfill her father's dying wish, a desire that only strengthens after receiving her father's true message (the other one had been edited by Ikutsuki), which triggers the evolution of her Persona. However, while Yukari's love for her father reaches the point of idolization, she has a toxic relationship with her mother, who threw herself at random men as a coping mechanism against her husband's death. Eventually, Yukari decided she was better off living alone, doing so for 3 years before coming to the S.E.E.S. dorm. The two rarely talk, and when they do, their conversations are straight to the point at best and even outright antagonistic at worst. This in turn has made Yukari self-reliant and responsible, but also cold and aloof in some regard as well. Yukari has phasmophobia (a fear of ghosts), which Junpei, Akihiko, and Ryoji Mochizuki (Later becoming Nyx) often take advantage of by intentionally spooking her or telling her ghost stories to agitate her to their amusement. Yukari's phasmophobia can be seen as being symbolic of her fear of death. Yukari has an extreme fear of death to the point where she initially has difficulty using her Evoker. Despite this, Yukari is a very brave young woman, perhaps to a fault, considering going to the back alley behind Port Island Station to be an "adventure" despite Junpei repeatedly warning her how dangerous it is and not being the least bit intimidated by street thugs, calling them "scum." She is also incredibly determined and strong-willed, even by the standards of the group, which is best shown when Ryoji offers to have the group's memories erased so they won't see The Fall coming; while most of the group are in deep conflict about what to do, Yukari decides right there and then that she doesn't want her memories erased, as she believes that forgetting would be like hiding from the truth. Over the next month, the rest of the group follows her example. The Dark Hour: The Dark Hour occurs for an hour every night as a time anomaly that takes place during 12:00 a.m., and serves as the 25th hour hidden between one day and the next. As the phenomenon takes place, non-Persona users are transmogrified into coffins and remember nothing that happens during the Dark Hour once they awaken. Because of this, the general public is unaware of its existence. It is not clarified what the range of the Dark Hour is and whether or not it appears outside of Japan as a worldwide phenomenon, or if it is exclusive to the timezone of Port Island, though it still appears at Yakushima. If it is a global phenomenon then it can be assumed that it occurs at midnight for every timezone. During the Dark Hour, the physical world is totally altered, mostly with respect to atmosphere and color. The buildings, the night sky, as well as the moon would assume a sickly green hue, while bodies of water turn crimson and thicken, resembling blood (or are actually blood), as evidenced by the fountain in Paulownia Mall and the sea seen during the monorail. Red liquid puddles form in random surfaces as well, even if there were no puddles there before. All electrical appliances cease to function unless the equipment is specifically made for use in the Dark Hour, such as those made by the Kirijo Group, like Mitsuru's motorcycle and the instruments in the Iwatodai Dormitory. Normal humans transmogrify into coffins and become oblivious to what is happening. Shadows become active during the Dark Hour and attempt to hunt down humans who unwittingly enter the Dark Hour without being transmogrified; those with the "Potential" to awaken the Persona. The Shadows appear to feed on their psyches, afflicting them with the Apathy Syndrome. Sometimes when a human without sufficient Potential survives the Dark Hour without being attacked by a Shadow, they will instead suppress their memories of the Dark Hour. Only those with the Potential can stay fully active during the Dark Hour and resist Shadow attacks; even if they sleep, their bodies will not transmogrify, and they will retain their memories. However, not all those with the Potential might actually awaken the Persona, as seen with Shuji Ikutsuki and Takeharu Kirijo. A known side effect of people able to experience the phenomena is a significant decrease in stamina: the longer they stay awake, the more quickly they will become tired. Those who have the power to summon a Persona are the only ones who can destroy Shadows, because Shadows are impervious to any physical phenomenon without magical interference. They use the Evoker, a device resembling a gun, to summon their Persona, the alter ego or their inner self. During a Full Moon that occurs for the next few months, a fragment of Death reawakens (sometimes more than one), wishing to return to its original body. SEES is tasked to kill all of them during these Full Moon Operations as per their chairman's orders. The twelve fragments each represent a Major Arcana from the Tarot, starting from the 1st Tarot (Magician), to the 12th Tarot (Hanged Man). Before the occurrence of the Dark Hour ten years ago, the Kirijo Group discovered the existence of the Shadows. Upon realizing that they had the property to manipulate time and space, the group decided to perform experiments on them to refine and acquire their powers. Their project was carried out on the manmade Port Island, where a laboratory was built for such a purpose. During the course of conducting the research, the Kirijo Group collected Shadows en masse and found out the prophecy of The Fall, or the end of the world. Accepting death as a deliverance and following the wishes of their employer, the senior scientists began rejuvenating Death, the appriser of Nyx to descend on humanity to bring about the advent of The Fall. During the final stages of Death's rejuvenation however, one of the senior researchers named Eiichiro Takeba opposed the efforts to initiate The Fall, interrupting the experiment. As a result, Death was forcefully separated into thirteen distinct Shadows, each bearing their respective Arcana, with the thirteenth shadow Death in an incomplete state. The fragmented Shadows went berserk, destroying the lab and everyone within it. This, in turn, made a significant impact on the time continuum, creating the Dark Hour. A tower soon emerged from the ruins of the lab. This was Tartarus, considered to be the lair of Shadows. To cover up the incident, the Kirijo Group put all of the blame on Eiichiro Takeba; altering all records of his findings and withholding all printed matter addressed to his family, making him an essential scapegoat for the tragic incident. The ruined laboratory was later rebuilt as Gekkoukan High School, but every time the Dark Hour occurs, Tartarus reemerges, altering the structure to use as its own. When the Dark Hour ends for that day, the school transforms back into its original state.
