She was so poor because her dad owed a lot of debt from the Yakuza. One day, denji had found her dad hung himself, she didnt really care since he was a terrible father. When he died, all the debt owned by him was passed down to denji. Denji often hunted devils with his chainsaw devil friend Pochita. One day, after all her debt was paid off, the yakuza guy wanted even more money, which she then tried to attack him but the yakuza leader turned out to be the zombie devil, the zombie devil then killed her. But pochita offered his heart to let her live. She then became chainsaw woman (although everyone knows her as chainsaw man) and killed the zombie devil, although she was injured. Makima, her boss found her, fed her and made her work as a devil hunter." (Powers):"Chainsaw proficiency: Even before becoming a hybrid, Denji is shown to be quite capable in using chainsaws. Back in her private Devil Hunter days, Denji would use Pochita as both a weapon and a tool for her lumberjack side job. She demonstrates these abilities again in the finale when she attacks Makima using Power's blood chainsaw. Tomahawk proficiency: Denji's weapon of choice while in her human mode is a tomahawk. She uses it whenever she's not feeling like transforming and is shown to be quite capable of wielding it, being able to decapitate a Fiend with just one swing. Hybrid transformation: As the Chainsaw Hybrid, Denji is able to partially transform into the Chainsaw Devil and use her demonic abilities. She triggers her transformation by revving a chainsaw pull cord located on her chest. Chainsaw protrusions: In her hybrid form, Denji is equipped with chainsaws that come out of both of her arms, which she can use to attack enemies. She's also able to retract them at will and can generate them from other parts of her body, such as her legs. If Denji is low on blood, she will not be able to fully transform, and her chainsaws can also retract as a result of blood loss. Chain manipulation: Denji is also able to detach the chains from her saws and manipulate them freely as a rope. Regeneration: Denji is able to regenerate or heal herself by drinking blood, and because of this, she can sustain all kinds of lethal injuries, such as being beheaded, bisected, and even burning herself alive. Immortality: As a hybrid, Denji is immortal and nearly unkillable, as she's able to recover from the most fatal wounds, to the point that even other devils consider it unnatural The only possible way to kill her is to completely destroy her Devil heart." (Goals): Denji has simple goals in her life. First, to be able to eat jam on toast every morning, second, get a boyfriend.
