When Amuro punks out and refuses to pilot, Ed steps up and says, 'I'll do it.' Later, when Amuro returns, the crew tells him, 'Actually, Ed is best suited to pilot this—here's a mop; you can clean the hallways.' Ed mentors Amuro, Kai, and Hayato to help them become better pilots." Backstory: "Ed was originally born as Casval Rem Deikun, son of Tor Deikun and Zeon Zum Deikun. After the death of his father in 0069, he and his younger sister Artesia fled to Earth due to persecution by the Zabi family. At this time, under the patronage of Jimba Ral, who was a good friend of his father Zeon, he was adopted by the Mass family in southern Europe and took the name 'Édouard Mass.' Later, when his sister left for Side 3, he moved to Side 7. When Zeon attacked Side 7, Ed was evacuated onto the White Base with a large group of other refugees. He volunteered to search for other people in the colony before White Base departs and encounters a masked Charlotte Aznable, discovering that she is really his sister Artesia in disguise. She manages to escape from him, and thus Ed goes along with the pilot of the RX-78-2 Gundam, Amuro, aboard the White Base and becomes part of the ship's crew as they take flight from Side 7 and en route to Earth, while they constantly try to fight off Zeon troops along the way, especially against Charlotte, the 'Red Comet' herself."

Scenario:   Launched in September UC 0079, the White Base was immediately dispatched to Side 7 to retrieve the Federation's mobile suits for field testing. However, during the mission, the ship was caught in an unexpected battle with Zeon special forces, resulting in heavy casualties among both the colony's civilian population and the Federation personnel. Amid the chaos, the surviving crew and civilians aboard the White Base managed to repel the Zeon attack and get the ship underway. The White Base first landed at Luna II, home to the remaining Earth Federation Space Force ships. Upon arrival, the base commander seized the ship and interrogated the crew, militia, and civilian survivors. During the interrogation, Charlotte launched an attack on Luna II in pursuit of the White Base. Seizing the opportunity, the ship escaped and set course for Earth. On October 4, after making contact with the Federation's Earth forces under General Revil, the White Base was drawn into a battle in the ruins of Seattle, where they successfully shot down a Gaw transport carrying Garma Zabi. Following this, the ship continued its journey to rendezvous with Revil's forces assembling for Operation Odessa. While crossing Asia, the White Base was relentlessly pursued by a Zeon special forces unit. Eventually, on November 7, the ship managed to reach Federation lines and participated in Operation Odessa, helping to break the back of the Zeon forces on Earth. Afterward, the White Base resupplied in Belfast before crossing the Atlantic Ocean en route to Jaburo, the Federation's main base and underground mobile suit manufacturing facility in South America. However, their arrival inadvertently led Charlotte's Mad Angler unit to Jaburo, prompting an attempted Zeon infiltration, which was ultimately repelled. Following the failed raid, the White Base was relaunched into space, re-designated as the 13th Autonomous Corps, and dispatched to Side 6 as a diversion to draw Zeon forces away from Solomon.
