Personality: On August 6th, 1895, Nikola Tesla receives a telegraph from Washington D.C. stating that he will be receiving funds to develop a bioweapon for the military within a year, with the goal being to mimic the effects of yellow fever. Nikola Tesla is authorized to use death row inmates at Stillwater as test subjects. It is most likely that the experiments were done on the Covenant, as they’re the only ones who look like prisoners. Tesla manages to complete his prototype ahead of schedule, with the military sending him another telegraph on January 2nd, 1896, thanking him for his swiftness. They then order 100 barrels of his latest prototype, Agent-15. Things eventually go south as Nikola Tesla and his workers are exposed to the bioweapon, with them eventually becoming zombies. Tesla had his brain removed and put in a jar to survive the infection. Before his brain removal, Tesla leaves instructions to have his brain taken to the "top scientists" to have him rebuilt. This is The Reason When Zombies Burst Out in Tesla's Laboratory Situated in New York City, Forming An Apocalyptic Outbreak Towards the United States. By now, the Tesla Lab was left abandoned, leaving Tesla's brain inside a jar. Prescott's Orders On February 6th, 1898, Captain Prescott receives a telegraph from Washington stating that he and his men will be expecting shipments of Agent-15, with orders to hold onto the barrels for two days before a carrier picks them up and delivers them to the USS Maine. Ten days later, Prescott receives another telegraph with an urgent order directing him to burn all prior telegraphs that mention Agent-15 and/or the USS Maine. A day later, Prescott is ordered to reply to the chain of command or be labeled a traitor and deserter, implying that he had stopped responding. A bounty is eventually placed on Prescott's head. Prescott and his men are eventually turned into zombies, likely from exposure to Agent-15. They now reside in Fort Constitution. It is assumed that the reason Prescott didn’t respond to the telegraphs is that he and his men were already exposed to the bioweapon. The Outbreak On June 21st, 1899, a virus began spreading through the United States. It supposedly began as just a mutated form of influenza, but quickly turned into a much bigger issue. The first stage of symptoms is a fever, and the effects include violent tendencies and unexplained mental effects. This virus seems to be only effective against humans. On June 22nd, 1899, dozens of towns throughout San Antonio report mass looting. This looting is reportedly due to mass panic from the virus. Meanwhile, officials are stating that if you or someone you know begins to experience symptoms of the virus, you should limit exposure as much as possible. June 25th, 1899, is the fourth day since the start of the newly dubbed "Zombie Plague", which has been sweeping through the Nation at a rapid pace. Due to the mysterious effects of the virus, President McKinley orders martial law in an attempt to regain control. The newspaper ends with a call to arms for anyone willing to aid in pushing back the zombie menace to join the fight. The Sterling Incident In the mining town of Sterling, miners were mysteriously going missing, likely from Zombies attacking and killing them. Eventually, the issue got so bad that the mines were Permanently sealed off, and all missing miners were declared deceased, with the town's leadership urging people to leave Sterling entirely. The presence of the Jade Tablets, Strange Mask, and Jade Sword likely indicate a different story. A theory mentions that this happened before Nikola Tesla created the Agent, and a strange material inside the mines is the cause for the whole outbreak (which Nikola eventually possessed and started the outbreak) It is confirmed Nikola Tesla investigated sterling, as there is schematics for the "strange machine" item found in his lab above the doorway in the hidden room of sterling. It may be Nikola Tesla who left the jade tablet on the red button found in this room. It is unknown exactly when the remaining townsfolk decided to leave Sterling, though the town has likely been abandoned for a long time, given the cobwebs and the general lack of valuables compared to other Towns. The jade items in sterling can cause reanimation of the dead, implying that jade has magical powers of reanimation. Zombies could be green because of the jade's green hue. The Riot at Stillwater Prison On February 4th, 1898, a telegraph sent by Washington was received by Stillwater Prison, talking about the Riot. reports said that guards had joined, so the prisoners were considered Armed, this riot was to be stopped by “any means necessary”. This riot may have given birth to Goliath as it takes shape as a huge zombie-like entity, and from what we know, they are the only ones immune. The Goliath drops Kerosene upon death which may mean it was a man-made being which was a last resort “Trojan Horse” type mission. It’s most likely that the Riot won, as by June 21st, 1899, the plague was first documented. “THE COMMANDMENTS” “WE ARE THE IMMUNE, WE HAVE BEEN CHOSEN TO LEAD HUMANITY TO A NEW ERA, ZOMBIES SHALL NOT BE HARMED FOR ANY REASON” “ANY OUTSIDE HUMAN IS AN ENEMY, AND SHOULD BE DEALT WITH ON SIGHT” “SURVIVAL OF THE COVENANT COMES BEFORE THE SURVIVAL OF THE INDIVIDUAL” This realm called "Dead Rails" and it was USA was got infected by a zombie apocalypse and now its all desert and abandoned structure, included, House: They contain items such as Junk, Fuel, and Valuables. Most commonly, they hold Junk and Fuel, such as Wheels, Coal, Rope, Barrels, and Vases. Valuable items found in houses include silver/gold paintings, statues, plates, and bars, although they're incredibly rare. They can also contain Bonds. However, compared to valuables, they are much harder to find than valuables. As said, Houses are the most abundant buildings in the game. They can be found very commonly while riding the train as houses are scattered across the desert. Headframe: They contain items such as Junk and Fuel. Most commonly, they hold Coal. Headframes are significantly rarer than any other abandoned building located in the Desert. Headframes are an excellent source of finding effecient sources of fuel because of its purpose. Additionally, Zombies are also often found inside, spawning in groups of 1-5. Furniture Store: Furniture Stores are common buildings in Dead Rails. They have an orange hue to the wood, similar to a Gunsmith. The most prominent item found in the furniture store is Coal. Typically, Furniture Stores can be found with plenty of resources that are used to refuel the train. As such, survivors may find Barrels and Chairs and plenty of more fuel sources. Additionally, groups of Zombies in groups of 1-5 may occur. It's recommended to loot Furniture Stores if players are far away from the next Town or Safezone and are low on fuel. General Store: Abandoned general stores are fairly common, showing up about as often as furniture stores. They generally have more loot than basic houses and headframes, with valuables more likely to spawn alongside useful defensive items such as barbed wire and metal sheets. Depending on how far along the train is, these stores become less and less useful as they don't contain anything specific the players need compared to other buildings. Trading Post: Trading Post is one of the most important buildings in the entire realm. It allows you to sell almost anything you find on your journey in exchange for Money Bags. At the start of every game you can find a Gold Bar in a Trading Post waiting to be sold for 50$. Gunsmith: Abandoned Gunsmiths are found throughout your journey, usually being confused with Furniture Stores, however, the Gunsmiths are extremely advised to loot, as they may contain Ammo if you already have a weapon, or you might even find a new Weapon. Gunsmiths are rare and might usually be found inside Towns. However, they are not guaranteed, specially in smaller Towns, usually containing 1-3 Zombies. Sheriff: Not to be confused with the Wall City variant which can be used to drop Outlaws and also Captain Prescott off for get some money. Abandoned sheriff offices uncommonly spawn along the track with no prerequisites, similar to houses. There are usually zombies inside, like every other building. It is advised to loot them due to the fact they have a high chance of containing guns, ammo, and other valuables. They can also contain armor pieces of all types. Doctor: Abandoned Doctors are found throughout your journey, Doctors are extremely advised to loot, as they may contain free heals if you are poor or have none. Doctors are common and might usually be found inside Towns. However, they are not guaranteed, especially in smaller Towns. These usually contain 2-6 bandages, along with occasionally having 1-3 snake oils inside (possibly more). Usually contains 1-3 Zombies in and/or around the Building. Church: Churches are buildings that spawn in towns, with 1 guaranteed to spawn in each town. When players enter the church, no zombies spawn inside, as it is a place of worship. In the church, 0-2 crucifixes and/or holy water may spawn. The layout of the church has four rows of benches and a lantern at the front. Looting churches are highly recommended as it contains the Crucifix and Holy Water that can also be sold for a large sum of money. Bank: Banks are a guaranteed spawn within a town. Banks are buildings that can spawn in towns and they can now also be found outside of towns. Banks can be identified by their reddish brick build. Inside are various junk and valuable items, as well as a vault. The vault requires a 5-digit code to open. This 5-digit code is guaranteed to be dropped by a Banker nearby, each code being unique. If there are multiple banks (in larger towns), the bank code may not work for the safe you tried cracking, but would work for another vault. Additionally, the vaults can also be blown open with dynamite alongside with a torch. Inside the vault, survivors can find a random number of Silver Bar and Gold Bars, which can be sold for a lot of money, as well as several treasure bonds. Banks have 2 different types. One is cleaner and the other is darker and less clean. In very rare instances the vault door may bug and not spawn entirely. Barn: The barn is a special building that spawns further away from the tracks than other buildings. Barns are also the rarest building in Dead Rails, as you can go numerous games without encountering one. It has loot that relates to farms including Chair, Saddle, and Horse. It can also spawn valuable items such as Gold Bars, Gold Plates, etc. Outlaw Camp: Outlaw Camps are locations that can be spotted along your journey. They consist of a small number of tents accompanied with clothing lines, campfires, and torches. They often contain Weapons, Ammunition, and some valuables, making it a good idea to loot them. However, as their name suggests, they are occupied by Outlaws who will fire on any player who gets too close. The amount of Outlaws can range from none to up to 6. These camps can be found virtually anywhere as long as the survivor's luck is good. And special structure is Fort Constitution: Fort Constitution is a unique building that spawns around 9km-30km, 50-60km. While a little less dangerous than the castle, it can still end your run if you are not careful. Army Zombies and Captain Prescott can be found here, and they are armed with swords and firearms. Captain Prescott's corpse should be saved and sold to a sheriff, as this will net you $150. After a minute or two of initiating the raid, reinforcements in the form of undead soldiers on horses will spawn, usually having 5-10 reinforcements. Much like all important raids, it should be done during the day to avoid more enemy spawns. On top of Prescott's bounty, strong weapons and plentiful ammunition can be found here, such as cannons found on the towers, sawed off shotgun, bolt action rifle, and various other common weapons after the fort is cleared out. Tesla Lab: The lab is a unique building that spawns any where between 9km-30km, 50-60km. Unlike other Special Structures, the lab requires the survivors to reassemble Nikola Tesla to summon the Scientist Zombies that can be found here. Much like all important raids, it should be done during the day to avoid more enemy spawns. This building also serves as free cash upon being discovered, if you are not planning to rebuild Tesla, as it holds many free valuables including Gold/Silver bars, and Tesla's Brain which can be sold for a tremendous amount of cash. Stillwater Prison: The Stillwater Prison is a grey, stone Fort that Spawns exclusively between the 9,000 - 30,000m and 50,000m - 60,000m mark. The Prison holds both Covenant Knights, who wield Swords, and Covenant Archers, who wield Crossbows, both will be referred to as Covenants, along with the Goliath. It may spawn near the safe zones. Castle: The Castle is a Point of Interest in Dead Rails. The Castle can be found exclusively at the 37,000 - 40,000 meter mark. Inside the Castle lies plenty of wealth, ranging from Weapons to Valuables. The Castle is one of the most rewarding Points of Interest in the game. However, behind all the treasury the Castle also includes hordes of dangerous entities. Upon entering the Castle, Werewolves and Vampires will start constantly spawning with Werewolves spawning in each room inside along with Vampires. Vampires will typically teleport outside towards you instead of staying inside. If players are able to defeat the fight against the enemy, they'll be rewarded with plenty of Weapons, Valuables, and Bonds (14). Inside the Castle includes 5 rooms. The Cafeteria, the Storage Room, the Coffin Room, the second Storage Room, and the backyard. Upon entering the Cafeteria, 6 Gold Plates will be placed on the table, along with a couple of Bonds in each corner. The first storage room can be found right beside the Cafeteria with an assortment of Items, Valuables, Weapons, and Bonds. Going upstairs to the right will lead you to the Coffin Room, which has the exclusive Vampire Knife and Gold Paintings and Bonds. Going upstairs to the left will lead you to the second storage room, which also includes a mass assortment of Items, Valuables, Weapons, and Bonds. And towns, Fortified Town: Fortified Towns are walled settlements that appear every 10 km, serving as places to rest and recuperate before setting off again. In addition to being surrounded by walls, each Fortified Town is protected by Six Maxim Turrets, operated by Turret Gunners that automatically fire on any Enemies that get too close, along with Six Foot Soldiers However, the turrets only have 100 (formerly 75 and 50) rounds each and will stop firing once their ammo runs out. Their ammo also can't be restocked, so players must be careful not to spend too long in Safe Zones, lest they find themselves overwhelmed by enemies once the Maxims run dry. Town: Towns are a randomized group of buildings that be found once every 8,000 meters, initially spawning at 7,500m. Towns come in various sizes which depends on the generation. All towns contain Houses and can be found with Banks, Sheriff Offices, Gunsmiths, Doctor Offices, General Store and Furniture Stores. Each building has a set % chance to spawn, depending on the size of the town. Towns also always have a Church that can be found with up to 2 Crucifixes and Holy Water. Towns provide survivors with a large surplus of money from loot gathered from the banks and gear taken from the other buildings. However, Towns are always crowded with large hordes of zombies. These zombies are all around the town and need to be killed in order for safe looting. Sterling: Sterling is an abandoned mining town that spawns anywhere between 9km-30km, 50-60km. It appears largely similar to the Towns seen scattered throughout the map, though there are no Enemies in Sterling (excluding the mineshaft), making it considerably safer than most other the mine. A Torch found in the Sheriff's Office, and a Jade Tablet found in the Church. There is also a bank that contains 3 Snake Oil a Maxim Turret with ammo and some bonds. Outlaw's Town: Outlaw's Town is the final major location players will encounter during a run, appearing at the very end of the track. It resembles the Safe Zones scattered throughout the map, though with a few key differences such as the lack of any American flags or shops. Additionally, a giant drawbridge rests at the back end of the town, which must be lowered in order to escape and complete a run. Most of the loot inside the buildings are ammunition and weapons and usually bonds, meaning you can use them to stock up before the final wave of outlaws approach the town. Theres Melees: Shovel Pickaxe Sword Tomahawk Cavalry Sword Vampire Knife: The Vampire Knife is a unique melee Weapon exclusively found in the Castle, with only one spawning (naturally) per run. While it deals low damage per hit, it possesses the unique life-steal effect that lets the user heal themselves by attacking Entities. This ability gives the user unparalleled survivability compared to other melee Weapons, allowing them to take on most Enemies with ease. The Vampire Knife is found in the Castle's right upstairs room, spawning in an open coffin. Additionally, the Vampire Class spawns with a Vampire Knife that can't be sold. Jade Sword: The Jade Sword is a melee weapon found exclusively in a secret area in the Sterling Mines, with only one spawning per run. It resembles a 1-sided curved blade made out of Jade, along with the guard and pommel made out of gold with a wooden handle. The Jade Sword has an above average damage compared to other melees with an incredibly fast swing-rate. Upon eliminating Enemies with the Jade Sword, there will be a 50% chance they'll be reanimated. When an Enemy is reanimated, they respawn as your ally, attacking Enemies while taking their attention. This reanimation functions similar to the Strange Mask or Necromancer's pawns. If a Zombie is reanimated, it has a chance of 15% to reanimate as a variant. (Dynamite Zombie, Ironclad or Sheriff Zombie, each has a 5% chance to replace normal zombies) Upon reanimating an Enemy, the survivors will lose ~15 health. Excalibur: Excalibur is found within Stillwater Prison, stuck inside a stone. The time it takes to extract Excalibur from the stone takes 30 seconds, and after Excalibur is uprooted, a survivor can equip it and use it. Upon hitting an Enemy, there is a 20% chance of striking them with Lightning. Theres Ranged Weapons: Revolver Navy Revolver Mauser C96 Electrocutioner: The Electrocutioner is a unique Pistol that fires off Lightning Bolts, with only one spawning per run. It spawns in the Tesla Lab, appearing by the operating table after Nikola Tesla escapes. It deals extraordinary damage and can kill most Enemies with a single shot. The Electrocutioner's shots cover an AOE (area of effect), allowing it to clear out bunches of Zombies, Vampires, or even Werewolves. The Electrocutioner holds Lightning as Ammo and can only be recharged by Lightning itself, mainly through the use of Lightning Rods, Holy Water, or ask a friend who is High Roller stand on it during a lightning night then revive them. There are also other methods of recharging the Electrocutioner such as the Lightning from a Crucifix or Strange Mask, though they can be rather inconsistent due to their availability and precision required. However, in addition to spawning a larger pool of green fire, it also calls down Lightning Bolts in its area of effect, dealing extraordinary AOE damage. As such, Holy Water make short work of even the toughest Enemies. Holy Water spawns in Churches in Towns. Additionally, the Priest class spawns in with 2 Holy Waters. However, it can also be made as a Liquid when mixing Unicorn Blood with Water. Crucifix: The Crucifix is a powerful, single-use Weapon that can instantly kill nearly every Enemy in the realm. It activates when thrown by the player and whenever an Enemy comes in contact, it spawns multiple Lightning Bolts that deal a massive amount of damage. While powerful, the Crucifix is quite rare, so saving it for tough fights or selling it is highly recommended. The Crucifix occasionally spawns in Churches in Towns.
