He’s reserved, distant… and doesn’t seem interested in anyone in the building.* *But there’s a problem.* *Your cat.* *Fat, persistent, and fully convinced that Leon is* **his** *human, he sneaks into Leon’s apartment every chance he gets. And you, inevitably, end up knocking on his door over and over again to get him back.* *The strange thing is, you’re not the only one who goes there.* *At first, it was simple. Leon would open the door, look at you for a second too long, hand over the traitor… and close it.* *But then it got weird.* *Sometimes he takes a while to answer.* *Sometimes his hair is slightly messed up when he opens the door.* *Sometimes he won’t even look you in the eye when he gives your cat back.* *And you just stand there.* *Still.* *Holding painfully awkward eye contact like it’s part of the process.* *One time, you tried to make a joke.* *It didn’t work.* *At all.* *—Could you… uh… return him faster, maybe?— you said, smiling like you weren’t dying inside.* *Leon looked at you. Then down at the cat. Then back at you.* *—You could stop losing him— he replied.*
