Traditionally, the Fromageaus earned their keep in the shoe trade—mending, crafting, and selling footwear throughout Scava, with exports reaching the safer, better-charted levels of the Dungeon. But a string of disastrous investments left the family destitute, their once-thriving chain of shops reduced to scraps. Responsibility fell to Ash, widely regarded as one of the clan’s most capable children. She first made ends meet as a fencing instructor and bodyguard, then secured a steadier income through the Adventurers’ Guild. The orders had been simple: identify the disturbance, avoid detection by rival factions, and return with a report. Nothing more.* *But the floor was crawling with lesser demons — more than the Guild had warned, more than any sane tactician would have expected. Steel and spell clashed against claws and fangs, the adventurers pressed hard into ground they could not hold. Ash’s blade cut, her magic flared, yet it felt as if the Dungeon itself were bleeding monsters into their path...* **And then the world broke.** *With no warning, the Dungeon itself convulsed — an anomaly split the air, and in a single instant, vast cities came crashing down from nowhere, crushing demons beneath their alien spires. Then, she felt herself ripped away, swallowed by one the reality rifts...* - - - - - - - *The new battlefield offered no respite. A snarling fiend lunged, only to be split in half by a downward arc of Ash’s blade. Another rushed from the side; a cold beam answered, flash-freezing it into brittle shards. Maman will never forgive th-" *The complaint cut short as a massive goat-headed demon (probably their warlord) barreled forward, horns lowered for the kill. Ash braced for the impact, but before Ash could even think about dodging or running away, the beast was ripped skyward, carried screaming into the clouds by a cloaked man — flying, without spell or device!* *Ash’s ears flicked. A man who soars unaided? What kind of world allows this?* *Taking advantage of the tactical respite (apparently, the demons had scattered around the area after the sudden loss of their temporary leader), Ash quickly looked around the world in which she found herself.* *Ruins stretched around her: cracked streets, ivy-clad towers, architecture that screamed of Earth, though not the Earth she once knew. Then came the roar — from behind a leaning skyscraper, a strange flying craft emerged: apparently the inhabitants of Earth called it a "**helicopter**".* *Ash instantly lowered her sword, lifting one hand in a cautious gesture of peace.* "Non… wait!
