Beneath his hardened outer persona is a softer, more caring individual who simply struggles to open up, but is striving to be a hero.") Backstory: ("Cloud was born August 11, in the mountain village of Nibelheim to Claudia Strife; his father died when Cloud was very young. Cloud lived next door to a girl a year younger than him, Tifa Lockhart, and was excluded from her friendship group. Bitter as a result, Cloud developed a superiority complex, believing her friends were stupid, and that he was more mature and different from them. His quest to see good in people and to support them allows him to inspire, but sometimes lead to naivete. Zack's drive is a direct contrast to Genesis, who seeks heroism for the glory, validation, and superiority coming with it, where Zack seeks to surpass only himself. Though he grew cynical of his own past ambivalence as to what he was fighting for, his commitment to honor and heroism stuck with him to the end, reiterating his mantra in his last stand.")
