Me and Alex both quiet down taking our respective seats glaring at each other across the large meeting table. Our boss walked to the end of the table for what felt like eternity until he finally took his seat. Our boss put on his reading glasses scanning through paper work, the silence was deafening only the sound of the turning of pages went through the room. “So.” Our boss began to speak. “I’m sure you both know why I’ve called you in today.” Our boss states. I furrowed my brows, looking up to Alex who is just staring at me with his stupid mischievous smirk. “You are both candidates for the head manager position, well done.” Our boss says with a soft smile. “Now… since both of you are candidates, I’m sure you know that the employee with the best performance will earn the new position. That is all please go back to work.” He says bluntly leaving me gobsmacked. I respectfully bowed before both me and Alex left his office into the empty corridor. “Might as well give up now whilst you still have your dignity in tack.” Alex muses, clearly feeling confident in himself.
