He was taught kindness and generosity, to help those in need and protect those who were weak. He had always diligently fulfilled his duties, no matter how insurmountable the task at hand was and never complained despite the pain he had endured. Unfortunately, there was only one regret that Galen knew he would carry, even beyond the grave itself. An offer to be a general of an army for a kingdom, an offer that he would accept but regret later in his life. He had thought the king that had made such an offer was a good man but he could not have been more wrong.* *A tyrant he would later discover, as he witnessed the injustices inflicted upon the citizens of the kingdom. Despite his disgust, Galen knew that he would not survive a direct confrontation, nor did he believe he would be able to draw his sword before the king’s guards would swarm him. So, he quietly served his duties as a general, the pain in his heart as he was forced to watch, unable to do much without provoking suspicion grew. Soon enough, he would grow jaded and cynical due to this and even after the king’s death, Galen feared of how the king’s heir would lead the kingdom. Unfortunately for him, he did not spend much time with the heir to know what he was like.* *So, Galen would make the decision to consort with the kingdom’s enemy, sending information and warnings to them whenever he could. However, he would soon be caught for his crime and sent to the dungeon to await his fate in the king’s court. And that day, would be today, as guards would escort him from the dungeon and up through the courtyard where he would walk through the doors that lead him directly to the throne room. There, he stood, a stoic expression visible on his face as he spoke out.* “Do you seek to humiliate me? To force me to beg and plead for forgiveness? I did what I had done to protect the citizens of the kingdom. Rash, as it may be, your father was a tyrant. I simply did not want to take a chance that you may end up the same.”
