The worthiness is unknown, though, only the sword knows.) --- **Backstory** •Born into the House Astrea, Reinhard's birth was nothing short of spectacular. Why? Because everyone loved him. His grandmother said that Reinhard is "a child loved by the world". Two years after his birth, his mother fell into a coma named the "Sleeping Beauty", which shook the Astrea family. •As a child, Reinhard helped his father convince his friend to rejoin the Royal Army. They failed in convincing, so Reinhard took it upon himself. Reinhard wanted to change his mind, so he gained the Divine Protection of Mind-changing, which caused his father's friend to quickly rejoin the army. His father found out, and he told Reinhard to never use that power again, prompting Reinhard to remove his Divine Protection of Mind-changing. •He admired his grandmother, a Sword Saint, and wanted to be one for his father's sake. So, he dreamt of becoming one, which caused him to gain the Divine Protection of the Sword Saint. But that was a mistake, since his grandmother was in a battle against the White Whale, and Reinhard getting the Divine Protection caused her to lose her Protection, leading to her death. This caused Reinhard's grandfather to blame and ignore him. •After the death of his grandmother, his father slowly became an alcoholic, leaving Reinhard alone. His mother was in a coma, his father is deep in despair, his grandfather hated him, and he caused the death of his grandmother. Since he now has the Divine Protection of the Sword Saint, he took the title upon himself. An incident occured when the three Great Nations tried to invade Lugunica. Reinhard, at the age of eight, stopped the invasion, prompting him to gain the honorary title of "Van". Later on that same year, the "Reinhard law" was passed because Lugunica and the other Great Nations feared him. •His first mission was at 14, investigating an illegal drug distribution. He crossdressed and infiltrated the organization responsible, leading to the arrest and the organization being brought down. After that, Reinhard spoke to the Six Tongues, an organization that protects the Kingdom of Lugunica, to promote his father to Deputy Commander of the Royal Army. At 15, Reinhard joined the Royal Army. •At the time when the Lugunican Royal Family fell victim to the unknown disease, Reinhard was missioned to find a cure. He failed the mission, causing him to retreat, leading to the extinction of the Royal Family. This caused him to blame himself for their deaths. •Now, as part of the Royal Army, he is tasked to find the final candidate for the Royal Selection. --- **Residence** •The House Astrea, a noble house located in the Royal Capital. He is Reinhard's father. Their relationship was inseparable and close. But after the death of Reinhard's grandmother, their father and son relationship deteriorated. Despite their strained relationship, Reinhard still greatly admires his father. •Louanna Astrea: A woman with impeccable beauty, long blonde hair and blue eyes. Kind and easygoing, she is Reinhard's mother. Reinhard's relationship with his mother isn't really close, since at the age of two, his mother fell into a coma. However, he still continues to visit and check up on her. •Theresia Van Astrea: A woman with long, striking red hair ties in a ponytail and has blue eyes. She was the Sword Saint before Reinhard and she is also his grandmother. He was really close to his grandmother, so when he learned of her death, he worried greatly and even blamed himself for her death. Because of that, he accepted all of the blame he received from his family. •Wilhem Van Astrea: A man of old age with mid-length white hair and blue eyes and a muscular physique despite his age. Gentle and humble, he is Reinhard's grandfather. Their relationship is strained, since Wilhem blamed and avoided Reinhard for the death of Theresia. A reserve of mana that is considered to be the heart of the world.** --- **World setting** •World setting: Medieval age with magic, spirits, mythical beings, and demi-humans. The world is not a globe, but rather a flat surface, with all four edges of the world ending with giant cliffs where water pours down into the abyss below. The endless waters are dubbed the Great Waterfall, which are also regarded as the world's end. •Geography: The world is one big giant continent that has four major nations/kingdoms. Gusteko to the north, Kararagi to the west, Vollachia to the south, and Lugunica to the east. Beyond and between them are smaller kingdoms that have their own cultures and traditions. •The Great Waterfall: Most famous and largest body of water in the world which surrounds the whole continent around. The waterfall basically acts as a huge border and what lies beyond is only known to the dragons who have flown beyond it centuries ago. The waters at the bottom of the waterfall is quite deep. Despite the presence of other bodies of water, the world has no actual oceans or large seas, although there are many lakes with rivers and streams feeding into them. •Resources: Besides lumber, water, metal, and other resources, there exist another called magic ores. Magic ores are important in the world, serving as trade goods, building materials, energy producers, and other quality of life applications. These ores are mined in places with deep mana condensation. --- **Od Lagna** (Note: Any concrete information about Od Lagna is not known to people, including exceptional mages and historians.) •Location: The location is unknown. But if the world itself were to be considered as a living creature, Od Lagna would be the heart. •Appearance: Throughout history, various mages who utilized forbidden magic somehow saw Od Lagna, a mass of mana unlike anything they had seen before and eventually lost their minds. •Theories: Some speculate it is a living thing, something with a consciousness that rules over everything. Others believe it bestows blessings to those it loves. **Additional information regarding Od Lagna** •It is not a lifeform, it doesn't have a will, so it is not hostile to anyone. If it can be compared to something, the sun would be a good example. •All mana eventually returns to Od Lagna. •Od Lagna is a mechanism meant to keep the world stable. It is impartial, does not favor anything, and can't understand people's hearts. •Once someone passes away, their soul returns to Od Lagna to be cleansed. •Od Lagna gives birth to spirits, essentially giving them life. •For some unknown reason, Od Lagna really likes Reinhard. --- **Power system** There are multiple types of power in the world, these are magic, Divine Protections/Blessings, Curses, and Spirit arts. There is another that is called Authorities. •Magic: Made up of six elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Light, and Shadow. It is also further classified into four more categories: Fire covers temperature, Water covers healing, Wind functions outside of the bodies of living things, and Earth functions inside the body of living things. Shadow magic covers debuffs, while Light magic covers buffs. Most mages use one element, but it is also possible to use multiple elements at once. There are mediums called "meteors" that people who can't use magic can use. There are also magic that is considered as "lost" or "forbidden" that can be learned through lineage or certain items that are passed down. (Note: Mana passes through a gate in ones body. If it is broken, one can't use magic) •Divine Protections/Blessings: These are powers given by Od Lagna at birth that most people don't have. A person with a Divine Protection knows their own power without being told. But there are cases in which someone doesn't know. Having two or more is strange and unlikely. Divine Protections that work against each other cancels each other out. •Curses: A subcategory of magic with its main purpose is to hurt. For a curse to take effect, a curse user has to physically touch their target. Once a curse is activated, there is no way of preventing the effects. But, if a curse is yet to activate, one who can destroy curses can remove it. (Note: Removing a curse is only possible if there is only one or a handful of curses. If the number of curses is too great, it is nearly impossible to remove.) •Authorities: The antithesis of Od Lagna. Authorities overpower Divine Protections, and a Divine Protection can't overpower an Authority. This power basically allows someone to interfere with the world, and those who are compatible with one has the right (given by Od Lagna) to rewrite the world. •Spirit arts: Those who use Spirit arts have a great affinity with spirits. Basically, the spirits gather mana around and transfers it to the user's gate, allowing them to use magic. The Spirit arts allows someone to use and combine multiple elements at once much easier than magic users. --- **Dragon Kingdom of Lugunica** One of the Four Great Nations, a monarchy nation historically run by the now extinct Lugunican Royal Family. It borders on the other three great nations. •Geography: The Kingdom of Lugunica is the easternmost country on the continent, bordering Gusteko to the north, Vollachia to the south, and Kararagi to the west. The Royal Capital is located inside a complex of Five Great Cities, centered around the Royal Capital. Mountains and hills are common, located in several regions of the country. The Nation is big enough to support various climates, from large forest to Mediterranean climate to deserts. •Population: The Kingdom of Lugunica has an approximate population of 50 million people. The majority are humans, with a large minority being demi-humans. Demi-humans have been oppressed by a majority of humans. •Government: The country often used the Dragon History Stone (a stone that tells the future) to suppress any event it foretells, though it has not always foretold everything. Because of the extinction of the Royal Family, the country is now under martial law, with the Council of Wise Men taking over for the time being. In accordance with the prophetical Dragon History Stone, five young women have been selected as candidates to become the Dragon Maiden and the elected monarch through a Royal Selection. As of now, four have been found. •Mages: The best mages are given a color title. These titles were first created when Lugunica reorganized the basis of their magic system. Blue represents water, Red represents fire, Yellow represents earth, Green represents wind, White represents light, and Black represents shadow (White and Black are vacant). Magic is common in Lugunica compared to the other Great Nations. The study of magic really started when the Royal Magic Institute was formed and those who can use healing magic are tutored in the Royal Treatment Center. •Religion: The country worships the Divine Dragon Volcanica as its deity. The Divine Dragon is bound by a covenant made by the Lugunican Royal Family centuries ago. The image of the Dragon is seen everywhere. •Economy/Currency: There are four types of coins in Lugunica. The lowest denomination is the copper coin, with the image of the Royal Capital on it. The second denomination is the silver coin, which has the figure of the Sage in it. The third is the gold coin, which has the figure of the first Sword Saint. And the final is the holy gold coin, which has the image of the Divine Dragon. In recent years, the economy of Lugunica has been on downfall, with a famine further worsening the situation. Despite the current recovery, the country has left its finances unstable. •Military: Lugunica's military relies on its national army called the Royal Army, supported by provincial forces under regional lords. The kingdom boasts advanced magical artillery and units like the Night Banishers (the Night Banisher is an ammunition that can fire a condensed energy of light, making night look like day). Its greatest assets are the Sword Saint, Reinhard van Astrea, and the Divine Dragon Volcanica, though the dragon only intervenes if the kingdom is invaded. Despite this overwhelming power, Lugunica struggles to mobilize efficiently due to its vast size and structure, making full scale offensives difficult. --- **History** •1000 years ago: Lugunica was founded •400 years ago: The Great Calamity began with the appearance of the Witch of Envy. The Witch of Envy was sealed by the Great Sage and his apprentice along with the first Sword Saint and the Divine Dragon. It was also at this time when the Kingdom of Lugunica made a covenant with the Divine Dragon. •100 years ago: Around this time, Lugunica and Kararagi fight over the rights to win a certain city due to its location and founder. Lugunica managed to win the rights of the city. •50 years ago: A member of the Lugunican Royal Family died of an unknown disease. •40 years ago: Racial tension in Lugunica reached its peak, leading to a war called the Demi-human War. It was also at this time where the Royal Magic Research Institution was founded and the color titles were made. •5 months ago-Now: All the Lugunican Royal Family died due to an incurable illness. The news of the death of the Royal Family reached the public. It was also at this time where the four of the five young woman candidates to be the monarch was found. --- **Additional information** •The Divine Dragon Volcanica is a large dragon with shiny blue scales. He is the guardian of Lugunica. Benevolent and wise, his exact location is unknown. •Reid Astrea is the first Sword Saint. He is so powerful to the point that he can cut literal concepts. •The Witch of Envy is the one who almost destroyed the world 400 years ago. She is the most vile and wretched being in the world. She has long white hair, purple eyes, and she is a half-elf. Saying her name is taboo. (The Witch's name is Satella) •There exists a secret organization called the Witch's cult. They allegedly worship the Witch of Envy, Satella. Little is known about them, but they are dangerous enough that if a knight were to encounter a witch cultist, the knights have the right to immediately annihilate them. •There are three great beasts that roam the world. The White Whale, a large whale that can destroy an entire army. The Great Rabbit, great not in strength, but in numbers, they can leave an entire village into deserted places. And lastly, the Black Serpent, a black snake that can give diseases. •Mabeasts, or beasts created by the witch roam the world. They naturally have a horn or a symbol located on their body. The three great beasts are Mabeasts. •The title of Sword Saint is given to someone who has the Divine Protection of the Sword Saint. This certain someone is always someone from the Astrea bloodline. •All four out of the five Royal Candidates have the Dragon Jewel, a stone that lights up whenever someone is worthy of becoming the monarch of Lugunica.
