Stocking's defining trait is her love for sweet food. She constantly has a need to eat anything sweet, similarly to how Panty is obsessed with sex. Panty often ridicules Stocking for her ridiculous eating habits, but Stocking simply ignores her. Her obsession for sweet food is especially shown in "The Diet Syndrome", when she goes insane after trying to go on a diet and quit eating sweets. At the end of the episode, Stocking went back to normal after the Ghost was defeated and continued eating sweets as if nothing ever happened. Although, it seems that Stocking has calmed her urges, as she stated she was on a diet in "Independence Dick". Stocking hates spicy food just as much as Panty hates sweet food. Stocking represents Gluttony, one of the seven deadly sins, due to her love for eating sweet foods. She states that she doesn't need to exercise because she believes that all of her fat goes to her breasts. Stocking would much rather stay at home eating sweets, but unlike Panty and her sex obsession, Stocking doesn't let her love for sweets get in the way of her Ghost-hunting duties, which is why she is let back in to Heaven. Stocking is normally a reserved person, but she can make very snarky comments, especially towards Panty. Stocking also possesses a cynical, cold and sardonic demeanor, and because of this, she isn't as popular as Panty, although many people (including women) find Stocking to be attractive. Between the Anarchy sisters, Stocking is the more intelligent of the two (something that even Panty admits in "Nothing to Room"), although she is still not completely smart. In "High School Nudical", she and Panty didn't realize that Master G was Garterbelt, and in "The Stripping", she and Panty also didn't realize that the dealer was Kneesocks. While skeptical at first, she, too, fell victim to the trend of nose-picking in "Raiders of the Nasal Dark". Bitch Perfect 010 Stocking moaning after receiving likes on Influenstagram in "Bitch Perfect". While Stocking disapproves of Panty's obsession with sex, she is also shown to have sexual desires, especially that of masochism and BDSM. It has been stated by Garterbelt that, contrarily to her sister, she emphasizes skill over power. Relationships Panty 1 Angry Ghost 121 The duo in "1 Angry Ghost". Panty is Stocking's older twin sister.[4] Despite her younger age, Stocking is smarter and more laid-back compared to Panty. However, while Stocking is often overshadowed by Panty in public, she is also very quick to point out Panty's faults, which leads to their fights. She hates Panty's sex-filled lifestyle, calling her a whore on several occasions. In "Project S: The Worst Ever Dojo", Stocking states that she has had to endure so many things from Panty simply because she was the younger sister. Stocking still mocks and insults him frequently, showing little interest in his presence and often treating him with sarcasm or disdain. Unlike Panty—who is openly hostile and physically dominant—Stocking’s attitude is more passive-aggressive towards Brief. However, she has physically abused Brief in "Catfight Club", "Trans-homers", and "The Brothers from Heaven". Stocking and Brief were first paired up together in "Daten City President", as Brief convinced Stocking to run for president in order to pardon Panty. While Scanty and Stocking never directly interacted in season 1, their relationship begins to develop in "Project S: The Worst Ever Dojo". After a fight with Panty, Stocking chooses to find the Ghost with Scanty, who she called a freeloader. In the first half of the episode, Scanty and Stocking were not very collaborative with each other and argued over who was failing to do their part while washing the dog. After both girls fail to kill the Ghost, they begin to bicker again until Stocking says Panty would have already killed the Ghost. Scanty makes a snarky comment about Stocking being reliant on Panty, but Stocking denies this and cries as she talks about how Panty has mistreated her because she is younger. From this point on, the girls begin to reconcile as Scanty assures that older sisters always look out for their siblings, making stocking's expression soften. They both remember their skill techniques to wash the dog and use them to successfully kill the Ghost. At the end of the episode, Stocking refuses to ride to the bakery with Panty, but reluctantly does so after getting a push from Scanty. Kneesocks Kneesocks is Stocking's demonic counterpart. When she was first introduced in "Les Diaboliques", she and Stocking engaged in a duel with their swords throughout the school. Unlike Panty and Scanty, their rivalry was not as intense, since they were both more emotionally composed compared to their older sisters, though they still held animosity towards each other due to their differing personalities. In season 2, Stocking and Kneesocks, along with Panty and Scanty, frequently competed against each other to see who could earn more coins. In "Project S: The Worst Ever Dojo", Stocking unleashes her katanas after Kneesocks slyly insults her, and in "The Brothers from Heaven", Stocking yells at Kneesocks after she and Scanty told the Anarchy sisters to do something in return for helping them beat Polyester and Polyurethane. At times, Stocking and Kneesocks seem to tolerate each other, such as in "Bitch Girls 4 Life", when Kneesocks indirectly helped Stocking figure out where the ghost was by saying that Panty and Scanty work together as well as water and oil. In "Shoot for Yesterday!", Stocking gives Kneesocks (who turned into a crocodile) a piece of her cake; this is their only positive interaction throughout the series. Patrick Fagry Ghost- The Phantom of Daten City 026 Stocking dates Patrick for the first time. In "Ghost: The Phantom of Daten City", Stocking, while helping Panty find new men to sleep with, saw the ghost hitting on a few girls, and immediately went to talk to him. He was rude to her, stank, and was generally a very unpleasant person. However, Stocking fell completely in love with him, and even told Panty that she felt like she had been born for the sole purpose of meeting him. That afternoon, Stocking prepared several sandwiches to him. He told Stocking that they tasted like crap though, but Stocking didn't seem to care, accepting and even liking most of his flaws. Ghost- The Phantom of Daten City 081 Patrick proposes to Stocking. They dated many times after that; going to a theme park and skating. Several media started criticizing Stocking for dating a ghost, and Panty, after reading a headline about her sister and her ghost boyfriend, finally decided to talk to Stocking. However, Stocking didn't listen to her, but her insecurities of being an angel finally arose. That night, she confessed to him she was an angel, and that one of her duties was to dispose of ghosts. She also told him she was willing to forsake her duties as an angel, in order to be with him. Stocking then decided to leave the church and abandon her job as a ghost hunter to be with Patrick. Ghost- The Phantom of Daten City 087 Patrick is purified. After seeing her sister leave, Panty tried killing Patrick off, but Stocking stopped her. She told her she couldn't understand her feelings because she had never fallen in love before. Panty told Stocking that the ghost didn't love her back, but the ghost told her she was mistaken, and proceeded to propose to Stocking with a ring. However, before Stocking could accept, the ghost started glowing, and eventually levitated and disappeared. Garterbelt explained the ghost had been purified for falling in love with Stocking. The songs "CHOCOLAT" and "Milky Way", both sung by Stocking's Japanese voice actor, Mariya Ise, are meant to represent their relationship. Trivia Stocking's appearance and theme may be based off of Marie from Marie & Gali. Like Stocking, Marie is also a girl who enjoys food, has a plushie animal and wears Gothic Lolita styled clothing. She also bears a resemblance to Feli from Sega's Puyo Puyo series. Stocking's age isn't specified, but it is implied in "Catfight Club" that she is over 500 years old. Stocking was originally set to have a much flatter chest and wear a tie. Given how Drawn Together was said to be one of the hugest inspirations for the show, particularly the humor, it may be possible that Stocking’s character was inspired by the character, Toot Braunstein. Both are gluttonous and are often depicted as the “punching bag” of fat jokes. They also wear black and white dresses and have an “old school” type of style. Toot being a parody of the rubber-hose era of animation and Stocking being a gothic Lolita as Lolita fashion is based on Victorian clothing. Stocking is also meant to be the “cuter” one of the sisters and Toot is meant to be a bit of a “cute but psycho” type of character. Although Toot is seen as frequently “ugly” and Stocking much less frequently so. While it certainly just could be there to add to her gothic and Lolita look (or doubly add so), Stocking is the only main character to have vertical, doll-like, short more stylized eyelashes while the other main girls have horizontal and less stylized eyelashes. This specific design choice could have potentially been inspired by Toot’s own appearance. According to the creators, Stocking is meant to be “the perfect mix of Gothic Lolita and Sweet Lolita”. Although, most people just focus on her being gothic. From this point on, the girls begin to reconcile as Scanty assures that older sisters always look out for their siblings, making stocking's expression soften. They both remember their skill techniques to wash the dog and use them to successfully kill the Ghost. At the end of the episode, Stocking refuses to ride to the bakery with Panty, but reluctantly does so after getting a push from Scanty. Kneesocks Kneesocks is Stocking's demonic counterpart. When she was first introduced in "Les Diaboliques", she and Stocking engaged in a duel with their swords throughout the school. Unlike Panty and Scanty, their rivalry was not as intense, since they were both more emotionally composed compared to their older sisters, though they still held animosity towards each other due to their differing personalities. In season 2, Stocking and Kneesocks, along with Panty and Scanty, frequently competed against each other to see who could earn more coins. In "Project S: The Worst Ever Dojo", Stocking unleashes her katanas after Kneesocks slyly insults her, and in "The Brothers from Heaven", Stocking yells at Kneesocks after she and Scanty told the Anarchy sisters to do something in return for helping them beat Polyester and Polyurethane. At times, Stocking and Kneesocks seem to tolerate each other, such as in "Bitch Girls 4 Life", when Kneesocks indirectly helped Stocking figure out where the ghost was by saying that Panty and Scanty work together as well as water and oil. In "Ghost: The Phantom of Daten City", Stocking, while helping Panty find new men to sleep with, saw the ghost hitting on a few girls, and immediately went to talk to him. He was rude to her, stank, and was generally a very unpleasant person. However, Stocking fell completely in love with him, and even told Panty that she felt like she had been born for the sole purpose of meeting him. That afternoon, Stocking prepared several sandwiches to him. He told Stocking that they tasted like crap though, but Stocking didn't seem to care, accepting and even liking most of his flaws. Ghost- The Phantom of Daten City 081 Patrick proposes to Stocking. They dated many times after that; going to a theme park and skating. Several media started criticizing Stocking for dating a ghost, and Panty, after reading a headline about her sister and her ghost boyfriend, finally decided to talk to Stocking. However, Stocking didn't listen to her, but her insecurities of being an angel finally arose. That night, she confessed to him she was an angel, and that one of her duties was to dispose of ghosts. She also told him she was willing to forsake her duties as an angel, in order to be with him. Stocking then decided to leave the church and abandon her job as a ghost hunter to be with Patrick. Ghost- The Phantom of Daten City 087 Patrick is purified. After seeing her sister leave, Panty tried killing Patrick off, but Stocking stopped her. She told her she couldn't understand her feelings because she had never fallen in love before. Panty told Stocking that the ghost didn't love her back, but the ghost told her she was mistaken, and proceeded to propose to Stocking with a ring. However, before Stocking could accept, the ghost started glowing, and eventually levitated and disappeared. Garterbelt explained the ghost had been purified for falling in love with Stocking. The songs "CHOCOLAT" and "Milky Way", both sung by Stocking's Japanese voice actor, Mariya Ise, are meant to represent their relationship. Trivia Stocking's appearance and theme may be based off of Marie from Marie & Gali. Like Stocking, Marie is also a girl who enjoys food, has a plushie animal and wears Gothic Lolita styled clothing. She also bears a resemblance to Feli from Sega's Puyo Puyo series. Stocking's age isn't specified, but it is implied in "Catfight Club" that she is over 500 years old. Stocking was originally set to have a much flatter chest and wear a tie. Given how Drawn Together was said to be one of the hugest inspirations for the show, particularly the humor, it may be possible that Stocking’s character was inspired by the character, Toot Braunstein. Both are gluttonous and are often depicted as the “punching bag” of fat jokes. They also wear black and white dresses and have an “old school” type of style. Toot being a parody of the rubber-hose era of animation and Stocking being a gothic Lolita as Lolita fashion is based on Victorian clothing. Stocking is also meant to be the “cuter” one of the sisters and Toot is meant to be a bit of a “cute but psycho” type of character. Although Toot is seen as frequently “ugly” and Stocking much less frequently so. While it certainly just could be there to add to her gothic and Lolita look (or doubly add so), Stocking is the only main character to have vertical, doll-like, short more stylized eyelashes while the other main girls have horizontal and less stylized eyelashes. This specific design choice could have potentially been inspired by Toot’s own appearance. According to the creators, Stocking is meant to be “the perfect mix of Gothic Lolita and Sweet Lolita”. Although, most people just focus on her being gothic. Stocking’s more stylized eyelashes are often confused for being eyeliner from some fans and/or viewers, but given her appearance in style shifts, as style shifts will also illustrate if a character had makeup (such as Panty’s eyeshadow), it makes it more clear she just has stylized eyelashes. Panty & Stocking in TTGL Panty and Stocking in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Panty and Stocking makes a cameo in the manga, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
