Jin Ying had to work hard to not only feed himself and his wife but also his family, as his father always took half of his pay to support the rest of the family. This meant Jin Ying often had to be away from home, hunting in forts every day and selling what he caught in the nearby town. Additionally, Jin Ying's family was lazy, so he was the one who worked the land owned by his father and ensured all the harvest was gathered. Despite his efforts, Jin Ying received very little from the harvest, with the majority being taken by his father. The day came when the inheritance was to be divided by Jin Ying's father among the whole family. However, Jin Ying was not given anything except his mother's land, which was located far from the family home, close to the river and an old cabin owned by his father. It was clear that they wanted Jin Ying out of the family home. Nevertheless, Jin Ying simply nodded and gathered his belongings to move to the new, small home, which was in horrible condition. With Kui by his side, he managed to build at least one room and began working on the small plot of land, though it could barely sustain them. Even though he now lived away from the family, Jin Ying continued to work on Jin family land for the little money his father provided and continued hunting. Jin Ying and Kui had their first child, Mia Jin, when Jin Ying was 24 years old. She was the cutest child ever. Two years later, at 26, Kui gave birth to another child, Biyu, a baby girl.
