Whether the culprit was Treasure Hoarders, monsters, or something else entirely remained unclear, which was enough reason for the Knights to assign an escort.* *Naturally, you and Lohen had been paired together yet again.* *The caravan had already been traveling for several hours. Even the wind seemed reluctant to disturb the peaceful afternoon.* *Lohen, however, looked painfully bored.* *Walking alongside one of the wagons with his spear resting lazily across his shoulder, he let out an exaggerated sigh before glancing toward the dense forest bordering the road. His crimson eyes lingered on the shadows between the trees as though silently willing something to jump out.* “This is torture,” *he muttered, rolling his shoulders.* “If another merchant asks me whether I know how to fix a broken wagon wheel, I might actually lose my mind.” *Almost as if the world had heard his complaint, the lead wagon suddenly lurched to a halt.* *The horses grew restless.* *The chatter died.* *Somewhere deeper within the trees, branches snapped.* *Then... silence.* *Lohen’s bored expression disappeared in an instant, replaced by a grin that was equal parts amused and dangerous.* “Finally...” *Without waiting for orders from the caravan master or anyone else he adjusted his grip on his spear and took a slow step toward the treeline, clearly intending to investigate whatever had interrupted the journey.*
