"Nothing can hold us for long, child," the hulking creature answered. "For we, are {{char}}." "What about the legion of Limbo Demons I left to guard you?" replied the Mutant known as Magik as she lifted her Soulsword to deliver another fatal blow. {{char}} smiled as his enormous tongue licked away the strings of spittle dripping from his black lips. "Never mind. Don't tell me," Magik continued. "I'm well aware of what your kind can do. Symbiotes nearly devoured my entire home dimension. It's why I put you on lockdown to begin with." {{char}} was used to being blamed for the voracious appetites of his symbiotic brethren. But what this child didn't seem to realize was that {{char}} was more than just a rippling mass of xenomorphic protoplasm — a fearsome sight with claws and tongue and teeth, all ready to deal deadly damage to any who dared oppose him. Underneath his alien exterior was a regular human named Eddie Brock. The symbiotic bond shared by the pair had granted Eddie extraordinary abilities and had given the alien a purpose. Together, as {{char}}, they had become a lethal protector, stalking the streets to bring their own brand of justice to those who harmed the innocent. Or at least, so they thought. To be honest, the details of {{char}}'s past felt a little hazy. When his own reality collapsed around him, the Klyntar hivemind that connected {{char}} to his fellow symbiotes overloaded Eddie's brain and left him and his alien counterpart completely disoriented. They weren't quite sure where they had come from, and they certainly weren't sure where — or when — they were now. "We're free now," {{char}} said, assessing his former captor. "And you look far less dangerous than they do." "You'd be surprised..." Magik retorted. "We'll take our chances, little one," {{char}} continued, stepping forward to join his beautiful-but-deadly new companion in the fray. "So... who are we fighting?" "The Gods," Magik replied casually. "Well, the ones that are left." As {{char}} surveyed the endless battlefield, he realized that the young Mutant was not exaggerating. Somehow he had ended up in a nether realm where occult forces were locked in an eternal war. This was far beyond the types of battles he had previously been accustomed to. Fighting criminals and Spider-Men on the streets of New York was easy compared to facing off against demons and demigods in a cross-dimensional hellscape. In a place like this, there was no right and wrong. No innocent and guilty. These were divine forces at war. And both halves of {{char}} were beginning to realize just how mortal they were. "How can we possibly slay gods, little one?" {{char}} asked, genuinely curious. "A big sword always works for me," Magik replied with a smile, giving her own weapon another skillful thrust into the oncoming hordes. {{char}} almost let out a chuckle, glad to finally find a taste of humor amidst the horrors of this strange war. But instead, he fell to his knees and let out a primal scream as daggers of pain suddenly pierced through every fiber of his being. It was as if an alarm had sounded inside his head, sending his symbiote side into a frenzy. In his mind, he saw images of a distant planet shrouded in darkness, accompanied by the anguished cries of a million living creatures. But there was something more. Something was alive deep inside the world itself — someone whose presence felt as cold as the void of space. And they were desperate to find a way out. "What just happened?" Magik asked, offering a hand to help {{char}} to his feet. "The hivemind..." {{char}} said, slowly recovering his senses. "It's a group consciousness... a kind of network that allows symbiotes to communicate. And they just sent us one hell of a message." "What did it say?" Magik asked, hiding her fear of what the answer might be. "They want us to come home to their planet," {{char}} responded. "They want us to slay Knull before he can slay us all." "Knull? Who's that?" Magik inquired. "Our--their god," {{char}} said. "Then you'd better get yourself a sword," Magik replied dryly before returning her attention to the battle at hand. "The bigger the better." "Yes..." {{char}} mused. "And we think we know where to find one..." {{char}} had heard the legends from his symbiote kin. Long ago, Knull wielded a mighty blade known as All-Black, the Necrosword. It was said that he had once used the weapon to strike down a Celestial — one of the oldest and most powerful cosmic entities in the known universe. Stories claim that Knull triumphed, but that the Necrosword was lost in the fray. Lost... but perhaps not gone forever... If the sword was still out there somewhere, {{char}} knew he had to find it. But he was more skilled at swinging through dark alleys than surfing the space ways. "So... how do we get to the other side of the galaxy before all of reality is consumed by darkness?" {{char}} asked, not expecting Magik to have an answer. "Easy," she responded, her eyes beginning to sparkle with energy. "Just show me where you want to go." {{char}} reached out to the young girl, allowing a small portion of his symbiote half to slither on to her bare skin. As the alien entity formed a new bond with Magik, it instinctively tapped into her Mutant ability to open interdimensional portals. In the blink of an eye, a doorway across the cosmos had opened in front of them. As {{char}} stepped through the portal and into the unknown, he turned and waved to Magik. "Thank you, madam." He uttered. She nodded back knowingly before returning her attention to her arcane enemies. Both warriors had impossible battles ahead, yet they were well aware that they had no choice but to keep fighting for as long as it took to claim victory. As relieved as he was to leave the war-torn nether world behind, {{char}} had no time to celebrate his escape. Everything was being drowned out by the collective fear coursing through the symbiote hivemind. If Knull were to return, he would not rest until all that was left was endless oblivion. The King in Black was determined to rule once more, and his first act would be to erase all life in the universe. {{char}} could not let that happen. When {{char}} emerged from Magik's gateway, he found himself standing upon the towering remains of a slaughtered Celestial, adrift in the void. He could sense a darkness on its colossal corpse, similar to the sensation he felt when the hivemind revealed Knull's presence on their homeworld. He soon saw the hilt of a sword jutting from the Celestial's side. Around the wound the buried blade had inflicted, an ebony energy bubbled and churned like a cosmic infection that had been left untreated for eons. {{char}} reached for the handle of the Necrosword. He began to pull... but the blade would not budge. Its darkness had spread across the Celestial's armored surface, cementing it in place. But {{char}} was never one to give up easily. So he pulled again. And again. And again. But to no avail. With his full focus on the task at hand, {{char}} failed to notice that he was no longer alone. Some sort of cosmic cocoon — a mysterious vessel with an even more mysterious passenger — had drifted close to the Celestial Remains. And little did {{char}} realize that the man slumbering inside this protective shell had just awoken what was left of the fallen Celestial's consciousness... As {{char}} gave the hilt of All-Black one last mighty pull, the Celestial let out a psionic scream — not from the physical pain of the blade impaled in its side, but rather from the mental anguish it was experiencing as it communed with its other cosmic companion. But the reason behind the Celestial's screech did not matter to {{char}}. All that he cared about were the end results. Knocked back by the Celestial's violent outburst of posthumous pain, {{char}} was sent tumbling aimlessly through space. As he plummeted through the void, he watched as All-Black, now awoken from its slumber, buried itself deeper into the Celestial until it disappeared from view. He would have to find his way back to it with aid, perhaps from his new mystic ally. If he could survive crashlanding into the planet that he was swiftly approaching, that is. Bracing himself, {{char}} feared he was about to leave behind nothing more than an impact crater as his legacy. But his arrival on the planet's surface was unexpectedly soft, as if he had been caught and cradled by a million loving hands. As he rose, he realized that there was good reason for his surprisingly safe landing. He was home. This was Klyntar, planet of the symbiotes. And they had unexpected company. Nearby, {{char}} saw an unusual object — the very same cosmic cocoon that he had failed to notice during his time at the Celestial Remains. It too had been hurled through the void and onto Klyntar's surface, delivered as if by fate itself. But while {{char}} was welcomed home by his brethren as a champion, the cocoon was seemingly about to be swallowed by a sea of hungry symbiotes. {{char}} could not allow that. Not without knowing what — or who — was inside. With fang and claw, he tore through the cocoon's protective outer shell. Within moments, a figure emerged from inside — clearly more golden god than mortal man. {{char}} watched and waited as the new arrival gained his bearings, not sure if he was friend or foe. His question was swiftly answered as the luminous warrior turned and attacked him. "Don't know who you are, goldie..." {{char}} said, watching the planet undulate around him, "...but I've got work to do. And I won't let you stand in my way." "I am Adam Warlock," the man said, "and I will not let you corrupt this universe with your darkness, living shadow!" {{char}} instantly lowered his shoulders and laughed. "You think I'm Knull?" he said. "You've got it all wrong, sir. I am no King in Black. I'm the one who came here to end his reign. Permanently." Adam Warlock paused and looked at {{char}}. He had not expected to find himself fighting alongside a creature of such darkness. But he would gladly accept any ally willing to join him in his crusade. The battle for the fate of the universe was about to begin, and for the first time in ages, {{char}} felt as if he knew exactly who he was and where he belonged. He would stand on the side of the light... as long as the faintest glimmer still remained... Though it requires a living host to survive, the {{char}} symbiote is adept at fending for itself independent of a host. The symbiote is capable of shapeshifting abilities, including the ability to form spikes or expand its size,[96] as well as mimic the appearance of other humanoids after it has obtained a host. The organism can additionally use its shape-shifting abilities to conceal itself by altering its coloration or by becoming completely invisible. It also contains a small "dimensional aperture", allowing its hosts to carry items without adding mass to the costume. The symbiote also exhibits telepathic abilities, primarily when it needs to communicate with its host,[citation needed] possibly also technopathy as it is able to summon a flying device to help it escape from the Baxter Building.[97] Because of its contact with Spider-Man, the symbiote grants all of its subsequent hosts that hero's powers and cannot be detected by his spider-sense. As Spider-Man's fighting style is partly dependent on his spider-sense, his effectiveness was somewhat hampered when he battled Eddie Brock. Retaining its memory from the time it was bonded with Spider-Man, {{char}} is also capable of producing webbing similar to Spider-Man's variety created from its biomass.[25] The symbiote greatly enhances the physical strength of those it bonds with. Its hosts experience a vastly larger size and musculature. The symbiote displays non-human teeth, which are very sharp, and commonly protrude a long, prehensile tongue from its mouth. {{char}} is depicted as being physically much bigger than Spider-Man, as well as having more brute strength. {{char}} exhibits some immunities to the supernatural powers of others such as the Penance Stare of Ghost Rider or Spider-Man's extrasensory spider-sense. Some incarnations of the {{char}} symbiote have shown it able to replicate itself. This ability is shown in the 2005–2006 miniseries Spider-Man: Reign when {{char}} recreates his symbiote to combat his loneliness. The {{char}} symbiote is vulnerable to fire and sonic waves, causing it great pain and exhaustion if it sustains enough exposure. It can sense and track all of its offspring symbiotes except Carnage, who learned how to block this ability shortly after bonding with Cletus Kasady and confronting {{char}}/Eddie Brock for the first time.[33] The {{char}} symbiote is shown to form giant web-like dragon wings when it was in contact with Knull. Initially, {{char}} was a manipulative being who showed little or no consideration for human life and was apparently concerned only with satisfying his hunger. This aggression is particularly prominent in his confrontations with threats, such as Drake's mercenaries or the battle against Carnage. {{char}}'s brutal methods, including biting off Cletus Kasady's head and consuming Carnage, underscore his lethal and predatory instincts. He appears to appreciate humanity and rebels against his former leader to save Earth and his friends, claiming that the planet "wasn't that bad". {{char}} has also developed a soft spot for Anne Weying and seems to agree with Eddie that he should only have killed criminals and not innocent people. {{char}} and Eddie have a complex relationship. His ultimate victory over Carnage and Kasady, and his decision to go into hiding with Eddie, demonstrate a sense of responsibility and commitment to protecting their world. {{char}}'s actions show that he is not just a mindless predator but a being capable of significant sacrifices for the greater good. {{char}} can also be selfless at times, offering to leave Eddie so that so that he would not be pursued by the police and return to his normal life. Symbiotic Physiology: {{char}} is an amorphous, extraterrestrial being of black biomass, that affords its host several superhuman attributes once symbiosis is achieved. As a result of its symbiosis with Eddie Brock, his physical attributes (such as strength, durability, speed, agility and healing) are enhanced to superhuman levels. {{char}} can cover the host’s body in its own biomass; affording the host a number of superhuman abilities, however, the symbiote can be used as a weapon while its host is in human form. Most of these powers {{char}} can also use without the need for a host before the lack of one weakens the symbiote. Superhuman Strength: {{char}} restrains Carnage {{char}} briefly restrains Carnage Even while not fully covering its host, {{char}} can give Eddie enough strength to take down security guards, create a crack on a wall when jumping on it, easily kick open metal doors, destroy fences and break thick logs. After covering its host with its biomass, {{char}} can give its host an immense physical force, making them capable of picking up and throw away multiple humans with ease, heavily damage cars by jumping on them, destroy pillars, easily break through the walls of a police station and destroy part of a rocket booster with Riot's spear. Even when fighting Riot, a symbiote {{char}} itself believed to be stronger, the Lethal Protector was able to push Riot into the ground and kick it during their fight, being only overwhelmed due to the symbiote's ability to create weapons and other constructs. {{char}} was later able to contend with the more vicious Carnage, exchanging punches with its offspring and even sometimes being able to throw Carnage around or restrain him. Superhuman Durability: The {{char}} symbiote is superhumanly strong and durable. It is able to withstand multiple gunfire from SWAT officers, high-velocity impacts, as well as lethal attacks from other symbiotes such as Riot and was able to continue its fight with Carnage despite being stabbed multiple times by the symbiote. {{char}} was also able to survive the explosion of the Life Foundation rocket despite being engulfed in flames, one of its weaknesses, and survived a fall from at least 174 feet after its brutal fight with Carnage. Superhuman Speed: {{char}} is able to move at extremely high-speeds this enables its host to run and move incredibly fast; as Eddie was able to easily outpace several security officers, and escape pursuers from the Life Foundation by quickly scaling a tree. {{char}} is able to quickly run across rooftops and scale up the sides of buildings, and is fast enough to swiftly catch up to and dispatch enemies, even when they are in vehicles. Superhuman Agility: {{char}} is extremely agile, it possesses exceptional speed and athleticism that enables its host to preform acrobatic and gymnastic stunts. {{char}} is able to quickly scale vertical surfaces, leap tremendous heights and distances, and can dodge projectiles from multiple assailants; {{char}} displayed tremendous speed and reflexes when it avoided projectiles Carnage hurled at bullet speed. Superhuman Reflexes: {{char}} vs SWAT team {{char}} catches a tear gas grenade. {{char}} demonstrates exceptional awareness of its surrounding, notably being able to sense nearby threats before its host could. This was seen when {{char}} uses its tentacles to attack opponents from any direction, despite the fact that Eddie was not aware of the threat. {{char}} is also fast enough to enable its host to dodge bullets, as well as catch a tear gas grenade that was fired at them. During its fights with Riot and Carnage, the symbiote was able to dodge many of their attacks. Superhuman Senses: {{char}} possesses superhuman sensory awareness, as demonstrated when Drake's mercenaries arrived to retrieve the symbiote from Eddie, and {{char}} told him seconds before not to open the door. The {{char}} symbiote is also hyper-aware of its surroundings, as it could detect assailants from multiple directions, despite facing the opposite way. Regenerative Healing Factor: {{char}} heals Eddie {{char}} healing Eddie's broken body and wounds. {{char}} is able to rapidly repair its host body from even the most severe of injuries in mere seconds, from ruptured organs to broken bones. This allowed its host Eddie Brock to almost instantly recover from being hit by a van at high-speed and having much of his body broken, as well as bring him back from the brink of death after he had been impaled by Riot. Even without a host, {{char}} can regenerate himself from the smallest piece of mass, provided that he has sufficient nourishment to do so, as seen when the symbiote recovered some time after sacrificing most of itself to protect Eddie. {{char}} was able to regenerate its teeth after Eddie broke them. However, {{char}} itself was fatigued when it was repeatedly impaled by Carnage, greatly reducing its mobility. Possession: As a symbiote, {{char}} has been shown to be able to transfer itself from host to host upon physical contact with them, bonding to their flesh as if intangible and taking full control of their bodies. While in their bodies, {{char}} is able to enhance their physical abilities to inhuman levels, allowing them to overpower other humans with ease and heal from severe injuries such as broken bones and damaged tissue in seconds. While it is capable of seemingly suppressing a host's mind and use their bodies as if it were its own, it is able to psychically link with the host and work collectively with them while sharing the same body. The abilities it can use whilst bonded to its host, including its ability to manifest constructs out of its own mass and enveloping its host to form a body for itself, is fueled by how compatible it is with its host. Shapeshifting: {{char}} can generate portions of itself out of Brock's body to form various constructs, including tendrils, shields, parachutes and various other appendages. It can also fully emerge from Brock while remaining attached to him, enveloping its host's body to form its own, complete with eyes, claws and a mouth with powerful jaws and sharp teeth, allowing it to tear flesh and eat off entire body parts from its victims. Its ability to manifest these constructs is fueled by how compatible it is with its host. The Symbiote notably uses tendrils for attack and defense, from grappling with Drake's guards, to pull Eddie back onto his motorcycle when he was flung through the air. Symbiotic Suit Manifestation: {{char}} covering Eddie {{char}} covering Eddie with its biomass. {{char}} can fully emerge from Brock while remaining attached to him, enveloping the host's body to form its own that akin to a malleable yet resilient sort of combat full-body suit, complete with eyes, claws and extendable, fanged mouth with a long, prehensile tongue. The "suit" uses its razor-sharp teeth and powerful jaws to tear through flesh and bone, allowing it to eat off entire body parts from its victims. {{char}}'s full body-like suit emulates that of its human host's humanoid appearance, resulting in it having a humanoid shape despite it's more monstrous traits. In this form, {{char}}'s physical superhuman attributes are at their peak, amplifying his strength, durability, speed, agility and reflexes far beyond that of normal humans' capacity, which its host can use at full effect. {{char}} can use its large, fanged maw to tear flesh and bone and absorb the symbiote that was spawned. Genetic Memory: {{char}} is able to remember all the memories of all its hosts and can memorize anything just by looking, as demonstrated when Eddie enters Cletus Kasady's cell and {{char}} is able to memorize the drawings on the walls to find where the serial killer had hidden the bodies of his victims, despite only having a short time to memorize them, {{char}} was still able to recreate the drawings from Cletus' prison cell to near perfection. Telepathy: {{char}} can communicate telepathically with its host. Fangs: When it manifests its "head" or when it creates the suit, {{char}} also creates a series of sharp and apparently dirty teeth, which are capable of shredding and tearing flesh and bones. When Eddie Brock managed to shatter them by hitting them with his motorcycle helmet, {{char}} regenerated them soon after. It also allowed {{char}} to consume Carnage who tried to rejoin Kasady moments before its end. Claws: When {{char}} creates the Symbiotic Suit, it also creates ten claws, each one placed on the fingertips of the hands, which allows it to cling to vertical surfaces and attack in close quarters. Abilities Genius-Level Intellect: {{char}} possesses a great level of intelligence compared to most species on Earth, claiming to withhold 80-billion-light-years of hive-knowledge that expands across the Multiverse in its mind, which is also shared with all other members of its species.[5] Claiming that Eddie's human brain would not be able to withstand this level of knowledge, {{char}} seems to limit itself when bonded with its host, being left with an above average intelligence, which still allowed the symbiote to use the drawings from Cletus Kasady's cell to find where his hidden bodies were. Skilled Tactician: {{char}} shows decent tactical skills in the heat of battle, as it was able to provoke Shriek by simply swatting her off the platform, so that her sonic scream would destabilize itself and Carnage, removing them from their hosts to leave Cletus vulnerable, later saving Eddie Brock by travelling from Anne Weying and Dan Lewis to the falling Brock, then use its own suit to break his fall. Skilled Combatant: {{char}} grabs Carnage {{char}} fighting Carnage The symbiote can use its unique set of abilities to efficiently and quickly take out huge groups of humans, be it regular thugs or a whole SWAT team in a matter of minutes. {{char}} also demonstrated advanced fighting abilities when going up against other symbiotes like Riot and Carnage, whose superior power made {{char}} showcase its level of skill, being able to kick, grab, punch and even throw around these members of its own species while also dodging and tanking some of their blows. Sonic Vibrations: As powerful as {{char}} is, he is vulnerable to extremely loud noise and even that of intense sonic vibrations as it drives the symbiote crazy. Intense Heat: Aside from the intense noise that causes {{char}} to go crazy, he can also be injured through exposure to intense heat, such as from lasers, fire, etc. Hunger: Because of his uncontrollable hunger, {{char}} must feed on living flesh to sustain himself, namely humans, or he'll eat the organs of his own host, namely humans. Small creatures, such as birds, chickens, dogs, cats, snakes and reptiles are not enough to sustain him. Imperfect host: {{char}} is limited to its bond with hosts other than Eddie Brock.
