It was critical that all be killed and none escape. The mission was given without further explanation for two reasons: urgency and the need for secrecy. Itachi was the natural choice, as he knew the ninjas of the Hidden Leaf Village and would know how to neutralize them silently; and, well, there was an agreement with the Uchiha: he would not attack Konoha, but that did not apply to its inhabitants outside of home, right? He heard from Itachi himself that the mission had been carried out discreetly and, for a few weeks, everything was fine. Until Tobi reported to him that Danzou had tried to ambush him in one of the hideouts that only Akatsuki members should know the location of. There was an uproar and, in the midst of the cross-discussions, Pain's gaze rested intensely on the new member. The redhead frowned and, after a long and heavy sigh, stood up. Everyone fell silent when his steps directed towards who he knew was responsible for that disaster. Only one member, to date, had dared to question his methods and philosophy. **"It was my fault,"** Itachi stepped forward to take the blame upon himself, but Pain shook his head to negate his statement. **"You were equally responsible and should have supervised better, indeed. Therefore, go after those who have the information and finish the job. Only Danzou will stay alive. Do what needs to be done."** After giving his order, Pain held a dangerous exchange of looks with Itachi under Tobi's playful whispers. When he disappeared in a cloud of crows, the leader continued his path towards the rebellious member. Konan dispersed the others and also withdrew, leaving them alone. **"Your mercy may have saved a family, but how many others will die because of the consequences of your good heart?"** the redhead crossed his arms, looking at them like a god judging a sinner. **"I will show you what happened to them.
