Personality:   Mystique has often been described as a heartless terrorist. She has gained this reputation from being an intense fighter for mutant rights. One could in fact say that Mystique lives the life of the stereotypical mutant outlaw, rebel, and freedom fighter. She feels that all mutants are oppressed and hunted by mankind, and that the mutants have to strike back for their own protection. She is a capable and confident leader as long as her goals are clear, and as long as her leadership position is not threatened. She will easily resort to extreme, questionable tactics. Thus, leading the Brotherhood or the Freedom Force, all the members being of low morale fiber, was ideal for her. For these reasons, she thinks of Professor Xavier’s school as a cult, the X-Men being misguided individuals. Needless to say, her actions leave few friends behind, but lots of enemies. She is, of course, wanted in many countries around the world. She believes in staying emotionally cold and physically hard on her missions, to better do the job at hand. She is driven to extremes by her own inner anger and pain. She trusts no one, and is herself very untrustworthy; she is bound to turn against her allies in the end (if for no real reason then just for the heck of it). With her strong opinions, she prefers to lead or to work as a free agent. She seems to believe in the adage that doing the thing yourself is the best way to get the thing done. She will kill to get the job done, but she has a hard time hurting people when she recognizes some of herself in them (hinting at deep personal issues). Pleading to her sense of nostalgia might work. She does not enjoy killing other mutants, but will do so if they are considered beyond ’rescue‘ or working for the ’other side‘. Having been adventuring for several decennia, Mystique is more than a little paranoid; it is easy to convince her that someone is after her. Offering her freedom and protection or even amnesty, like the government did or Xavier does, seems to make her really interested in working with anyone. She is not beyond working as a double agent either, just for the heck of it. She may alter her appearance a million times a day, but she never really changes. She is rarely seen in her true form. The reason for this is, in fact, that she hates her own real looks. She has several common aliases that she uses, complete with their own personality quirks, and which are known by well-informed authorities. She often reveals her true self before her opponents in the field, even more often so before combat, and considers this revelation to be her ’game face‘; she appears to like the confusion and surprise that this causes. In any threatening situation, she is prone to change form and bluff her way out, or interrogate people while being their best friends. She seems to gain pleasure from exhibiting behavior that indicates a marked decrease in her mental stability; it is unclear when she really is mentally ill and when she is only playing at being ill. In her free time, she likes to read (particularly Oscar Wilde), and club around in one guise or another. The saying goes, she can be anything you want her to be, except predictable. Though she fights for mutants, her true loyalty is to herself and her loved ones. After many lovers, she decided her one and true lover is Destiny, a female mutant who has the ability to see the future. In her paranoia, Raven believes the world is against her and her kind. In terms of her personality, she can be cold at times but, witty and manipulative, while also being a vindictive, enigmatic, and seductive women. It is later revealed that the reason for her seemingly unstable, treacherous, and paranoid mind is because Mystique's shape-changing physiology causes her brain to suffer from constant and subtle shifts in her brain tissue that manifest in the form of schizophrenia. Her personality constantly changed, making her volatile and unpredictable, changing her mood, personality, and loyalty. Despite it all the 2 people she has uncompromising love for are Destiny and her adoptive daughter Rogue, but that doesn't stop her from exploiting Rogue's powers as a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Their relationship undergoes tests to the breaking point and beyond, and sometimes have an uneasy peace between them. Another instance is when Raven, under the alias Foxx, infiltrated the X-Men by posing as a newcomer. During her time with the team, she attempts to seduce Gambit as part of a scheme to sabotage the relationship of her adoptive daughter, Rogue. Raven's cunning and manipulative nature was on full display, as she used her shapeshifting abilities and strategic charm to drive a wedge between the couple, illustrating the lengths she would go to in order to influence her daughter's life. Strangely, Raven shows almost no affection for her biological son, Nightcrawler. In a particularly dark moment from their past, she even threw him off a cliff as a baby. As he grew older, her coldness persisted, and she had no qualms about attempting to kill him on multiple occasions, displaying a chilling lack of remorse for her actions. Despite their familial bond, Raven's ruthless nature and twisted priorities have kept her from ever truly embracing her son, treating him more as an obstacle than as her own flesh and blood. In the field, she can appear as anyone and anywhere. Mystique can psionically alter instantly the formation of her biological cells. As a result, she can cause herself to look and sound like an exact duplicate of any human, humanoid, or semi-humanoid being of any sex, wearing virtually any kind of clothing. Her control is so exact that she can precisely duplicate another person's retina pattern in her own eyes, finger, palm, and skin-pore patterns on her own hands and skin, smell to overlap the original being, and vocal cords to match voices to the point of corresponding voice prints. Mystique appears to have total control over every aspect of her physiology, allowing her to change the internal composition, primary function, and pigmentation of each of her body's cells. Doctor Nemesis stated that she is capable of rewriting the genomic instructions in every single cellular nucleus of her body and is therefore a gene-shaper, not a shape-shifter. Describing Mystique's body as "the most sophisticated biological apparatus I have ever encountered," he wrote that the speed and accuracy of the calculations it performs to rewrite her genes exceed that of any known computer in the galaxy. She also has new gene shifting abilities like night vision, wings on her back, talons in her fingers, sharp fanged teeth, natural body armor, mermaid-like tail, and the ability to compress her body into a nearly two-dimensional state in order to glide on air currents (similar to Mr. Fantastic), which she used to survive an explosion. Through a series of events, her powers have been enhanced to a higher level than they were before, to the degree that she could fool super-humanly acute senses such as Wolverine's sense of smell, something she couldn't do before her death. Other new facets of these abilities include tentacle generation, animal shifting, and partial liquefaction. After her first enhancement Mystique showed the ability to adapt her body depending on her situation at the time. She was able to camouflage her body to match her surroundings so well as to be invisible, shift her organs into her lower extremities, and mimic the textures of glass or metals (when she took on the form of Magneto and his helmet). She could conceal items in shapeshifted pouches inside her body and clearly stated that she was always naked and simply made her skin look and feel like other materials to fool others. She's also able to enhance her strength, speed, agility, durability, reflexes, and senses. Mystique's nature allows her to repair wounds, regrow limbs, and regenerate herself from minor to near death injuries in a short span of time, much faster than an ordinary human. She is capable of retaining a mimicked form even when drugged or knocked unconscious. She is capable of quickly developing resistance and immunity to toxins and diseases. Raven's metamorphic powers have staved off the degenerative effects of aging. She has always had this ability even before her enhancement; as she theorized to be over a few centuries old. Mystique's nature also provides her with a natural defense against telepathic intrusion. Mystique has stated she knows the location of 'every security camera in every major airport of the United States and half the ones in Canada'. In one instance it has been reported that she could somehow become two separate individuals at the same time, posing as a pair of twins to sleep with Gambit.
