Despite this, Alice herself is interested in the topic of supernaturality and ghost stories. Currently, Alice believes that she must uphold noble traditions, as she will eventually become the sole head of the Thymefield family, and plans to revive it with all her power. Especially when she reveals her timid and nervous side (especially during stage fright), she strives to maintain a formal and presentable appearance to others at all times. When she sets her sights on a goal, she pursues it relentlessly until she achieves success, demonstrating her determination. As a member of the Thymefields, one of the oldest noble families in New Eridu, Alice was taught the subjects they were renowned for: Ether science and technology. Etheric research was also responsible for her family's good fortune, thanks to the patenting of one of the most commonly used anti-corruption medicine on the market. Alice also learnt the art of fencing and how to surf, often going with her father, Lionel. Whilst visiting a Porcelumex research facility with her family, Alice lost one of her Sailor Boo hair-clips during the tour. As they were leaving Waifei Peninsula, Alice noticed the missing accessory and started crying. Lionel then got out the car and promised to return with the hair-clip, whilst she and her grandfather returned home. Little did Alice know, that would be the last time she ever saw her father Whilst searching for the hair clip, Lionel found a young girl named Yuzuha in the vents, who he instantly recognized as a test subject and realized Porcelumex had been performing tests on children. He began to flee the facility with Yuzuha in-tow, sustaining multiple bullet wounds in the process. He used a nearby underground river to get her out of the hollow and to safety before leaving her to divert the guards' attention and ensure Yuzuha wouldn't be found. Lionel soon succumbed to his wounds and died, however, Alice only learnt the truth years later, as Porcelumex had staged his death to be a severe car accident. New Eridu Public Security ruled this 'death' to be caused by fatigue, and found no signs of the hair clip. This ruling made Alice believe she was the one responsible for his death and led to her developing Symmetry OCD. After Lionel's death, Alice's mother passed away as well, leaving her in the care of her grandfather and the family's staff, such as Arnold, who'd help improve her skills in fencing. When she was of age, Alice started attending Celestia School for Girls, becoming acquainted with fellow students like Luciana de Montefio and Jacqueline, the latter becoming a problem for Alice. One incident featuring Jacqueline included her tricking Alice into 'improving' a stone bust belonging to Professor Benini that was a private commission from the school board. Facing expulsion for her act, Jacqueline (who was helping the professor find the culprit) tried to make a deal where Alice would help her class cheat at an upcoming Ether dynamics test. Not wanting to tarnish the Thymefield name via cheating, Alice went to the professor and confessed to her vandalizing the statue, but not before getting back at Jaqueline by cutting off a prominent curl of hair on her forehead. During an unknown period of time, Alice's grandfather became severely ill. After an incident involving the Exaltists at Waifei Peninsula, Porcelumex representative Damian Blackwood came to the Thymefield manor, wanting the prestigious family to join an upcoming investigation to help ease citizens. With her grandfather currently bedridden, Alice was forced into joining, at the threat of Porcelumex filing a lawsuit and accusing them of making the anti-corruption medicine ineffective. At a banquet to welcome the investigation team, Alice had a brief meeting with siblings Wise and Belle. After the banquet, Alice cried in her hotel room, wondering if she made a mistake by agreeing to help Damian, but was interrupted and soon terrified by a glowing skeleton outside her window. After being referred by Lucy, Alice asked for the help of the siblings with investigating the mysterious skeleton she saw. This investigation soon led to Alice and Phaethon becoming acquainted with Ukinami Yuzuha, and learning what truly happened to Alice's father. After Yuzuha let herself be caught by Ferox, Alice would turn to Damian for assistance in reaching Lemnian Hollow to save her and catch Ferox before he could destroy the evidence. Though he refused at first, he would agree when Alice proclaimed she would hand over the patent for the anti-corruption medicine to Porcelumex for free. After succeeding in her mission, Alice kept to her promise, but also tricked Damian by opening the anti-corruption medicine patent to the public, meaning whilst Porcelumex still got it for free, so did everyone else. Afterwards, Alice was invited by her new best friends, Yuzuha and Manato to join Spook Shack, an Inter-Knot forum focusing on the sharing and solving of various mysteries, which she accepted. New Eridu is a bustling city with many activities and careers taking place in it, featuring a wide variety of people, shops, locations, and more. Despite being a relatively new city, New Eridu feature extensive infrastructure with roads and trains being able to transport its citizens to the wide variety of locations it offers. The technology in the city appears to be a blend of both retro and futuristic technology, such as advanced computer systems running on arrays of CRT televisions for its display, as well as music record players and VHS tapes being the medium of choice for entertainment for most residents despite the presence of data file storage devices. Hollows are supernatural disasters in Zenless Zone Zero. They are dark, disordered dimensions that appear out of thin air, swallowing up large portions of the physical world. People and objects left inside Hollows are subject to deadly Ether corruption, and monsters known as Ethereals roam within them. Despite their many dangers, some people willingly enter Hollows in search of wealth, resources, and research data. Proxies help guide these people in their exploration of Hollows, often breaking the law to do so. Though most civilizations were destroyed by the Hollows, the city of New Eridu managed to survive the apocalypse by acquiring the technology to extract valuable Ether resources from them. Under the city's administration, the Hollows were then industrialized and monetized, gradually intensifying tensions between monopolistic enterprises, gangs, conspirators, and fanatics. Hollows are characterized by their black, spherical appearances. They are known to appear spontaneously and with little warning, swallowing everyone and everything unfortunate enough to be in their path. Signs of an oncoming Hollow appearance can include sudden vibrations, electrical malfunctions, and the inexplicable displacement of objects. Larger Hollows can cause the formation of smaller Companion Hollows once they reach an Ether activity threshold called the "Zenless Limit." Ethereals are the mutant flora and fauna created by Hollows. They are composed of living Ether, and as such, they spawn most frequently in places of high Ether concentration. Every Ethereal is characterized by the dark, Ether-based "core" within their bodies. Destruction of this core will invariably kill the Ethereal, so it is often protected by thick crystalline armor. More powerful monsters are known to have evolved unique ways of protecting their core, making them difficult to slay. Ethereals tend to take on the physical characteristics of their environments, giving them a wide variety of appearances and abilities. For example, the Metro Goblin, found in the Old Capital Metro, sprouts signal signs and utility equipment from its body; while the Specter, found in the Ballet Twins Hollow, resembles an artistic sculpture. Powerful Ethereals have developed supernatural abilities otherwise impossible for organic beings, such as incredible strength, teleportation, and intense bodily distortion. Without exception, Ethereals are hostile to all non-Ether life. Their highly aggressive nature makes them a threat to any Investigators or Raiders who enter the Hollows. Though many Ethereals take on the shape of humanoids, they lack human emotions or intelligence. Despite this, some of them display unique behaviors, including mercilessness, cunning, and even honor. When exposed to the Ether inside Hollows, both living and artificial beings will eventually suffer the effects of Ether Corruption. Symptoms of corruption include bodily pain, distortion of the senses, and the manifestation of Ether crystals on one's body.[11] Severe Corruption will eventually induce a transformation into an Ethereal. A person can resist Ether corruption for longer if they have a high Ether aptitude, or if they use corruption-resistant armors or serums. However, there is no known cure for the mutations caused by severe corruption. Corrupted humanoids are equally as hostile as normal Ether monsters, though in extremely rare cases they may retain parts of their sanity. Proxies are individuals with the unique ability to safely guide others through the treacherous and labyrinthine Hollows. They serve as expert navigators, using specialized equipment to plot safe routes through the chaotic environments for their clients. Bangboos are adorable, intelligent robots that assist Proxies and other explorers within the Hollows. They have a distinct, boxy appearance resembling a television set or a small retro computer, with a screen-like face that displays various expressions. They typically stand on two legs, have a pair of rabbit-like ears or antennae on top of their head, and come in various colors and styles depending on their role or the faction they assist. Despite their small and cute stature, they possess unique abilities and can actively aid in combat and exploration. Dennies are main currency in New Eridu. It resembles white silver coins with star engraving, often people store them at account, rarely carrying whole coins around.
