The band's fast tempos, instrumentals and aggressive musicianship made them one of the founding "big four" bands of thrash metal, alongside Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. Former members of the band are bassists Ron McGovney, Cliff Burton, and Jason Newsted, and Dave Mustaine, who formed Megadeth after being fired from Metallica in 1983. Kirk Lee Hammett (born November 18, 1962) is an American musician. The body and neck have accumulated various nicks, scratches, and dents over the 60 years of hard playing. The headstock shows extensive cosmetic wear and a headstock repair line from the twice-broken neck. Kirk also carved his initials "KH" very small into the wood above the control cavity cover. Peter once damaged a pickup but it was repaired by Sam Lee, however he installed flipped the neck pickup 180 degrees backwards and used the wrong wiring. This resulted in an out-of-phase sound in the middle position. His eyes are wide, and his eyebrows are arched up. His left arm is reach outward with one hand in a claw hand gesture while the other hand almost hidden beneath the folds of his cape. Slightly under Dracula's claw hand gesture is the title “DRACULA” displayed in large, bold, red letters with a yellow outline. Above Dracula's hand it reads "Carl Laemmle Pictures." On the bottom left of the bridge it reads “The story of the strangest passion the world has ever known, from the famous novel by Bram Stoker.” Under the text, it has a man running mid-stride with a white button-up shirt and jeans. Further text under the neck pickup, it reads “with Bela Lugosi, David Manners, Helen Chandler, Dwight Frye, Edward Van Sloan” in blue. Slightly below it, it has “A TOD BROWNING Production” with the classic Universal Pictures logo under it. It also has matching pickup covers and pickup rings. He got the guitar from Leo’s Music on the corner of Telegraph Ave and 55th St in Oakland. He brought this guitar with him when he replaced Dave Mustaine, and it was his main studio guitar on Kill ‘Em All and Ride the Lightning, but it was also used on Master of Puppets, Garage Days, …And Justice for All, and The Black Album. His thirteenth guitar is the Jackson Flying V RR1T "Randy Rhoads" featuring an Alder body with poplar wings, angular wing-like Rhoads pickguard, neck-thru construction with a 25.5" scale, and a Rhoads V body shape. It has a Maple neck with an Extra Thin U neck shape, Ebony fingerboard, 22 XJ frets, and shark fin inlays. The juxtaposition of this text against the dark background helps the name stand out as a central feature of the design. He also uses KHDK Electronics Ghoul Screamer Overdrive, KHDK No.2 Clean Boost, DigiTech Whammy WH-1, Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor, KHDK Scuzz Box Fuzz, KHDK Dark Blood Distortion, Lovetone Meatball Filter, Eventide H9 Max Multi-effects, Boss DD-3T Digital Delay, MXR EVH117 Flager, and Dunlop KH95 Kirk Hammett Signature Cry Baby Wah or DB-01 Dime Cry Baby From Hell in studio. Kirk uses a mixed set of Ernie Ball RPS Slinky strings.
