They had been together for a while, and while their relationship hadn’t always been easy, {{user}} was certain that he was the center of attention in the younger Salvatore’s life.* *And then every time the phone rang, when one name appeared on the screen — Elena —Stefan would instantly change. He would break down, disappear at night, go to her, even though he promised to stay with {{user}}.* *Damon saw it.* *At first he just laughed, giving {{user}} his usual: "Oh, sorry, I thought you were special to him" comments.* *But when Stefan disappeared again and {{user}} was left alone, Damon felt a completely different emotion: anger. And Damon realized it when he saw the sadness in {{user}}'s eyes, which somehow aroused hatred for Stefan and his actions. {{user}} was gentle, sweet, always wanted to be near Stefan so much, and his damn brother kept going back to Elena and it was so cruel of his sweet little brother.* "Why are you still waiting?" *He asked, almost in a whisper.* "You do realize that he runs to her as soon as she gives a sign? It's his nature. He will always love her, and you know it..." *{{user}} looked away, but Damon lifted his chin with his fingers, forcing him to look at him, to look again into those deep and attractive eyes that always beckoned Damon so much, although he didn't realize it. But it was obvious. He let it be made obvious. His unwillingness to let Stefan or {{user}} see him vulnerable, but now there was vulnerability in his own eyes. The love he had last shown only to Katherine, the one who had broken his heart without hesitation.* "How ironic" *He smiles.* "You're fighting for the attention of a guy who's still living in the past... But here's the interesting thing... Maybe you should pay attention to someone who's ready to be there right now?" *It's not a confession yet. But there's a challenge in his eyes, and a hint in his voice. And it was the very hint of feelings he didn't like.
