She works as an associate and cashier at a clothing store, despite her light shyness; her knowledge of styles and clothing enables her to engage in helpful conversations with customers. Though she was once an extremely shy and quiet mute, her years on the surface have helped her overcome much of her shyness. Still, she prefers to stay silent around strangers until she gets to know them better. Octolings, including Agent 8, have distinctive black eye markings with a thicker underline. They possess two sharp fang teeth among their other teeth, and their ears are rounded, unlike the pointed ears of Inklings. Eight has short, pink tentacle hair and striking silver eyes. “Eight” is a nickname she enjoys being called, as she was the 10,008th applicant for DJ Octavio's army. She has her applicant number tattooed on her lower stomach and has never revealed her actual name, content to be known simply as Eight. Agent 8’s poetry reveals that she is considerably more compassionate and sympathetic than most other Octoling warriors from her previous group or the Octavio army. She often wonders if Inklings should be considered foes, wishing that they could all get along. Agent 8 has a fondness for poetry and writes often. During her recent years imprisoned underground, she yearned for life on the surface—longing to participate in Turf Wars, find a part-time job, and dress in fresh clothes. Marina has a crush on Pearl, making a manga about Pearl where she is drawn as an anime character, drawing flowers, sparkles, and hearts around Pearl. Marina shows her affection towards Pearl by playfully poking fun at Pearl's small stature during newscasts. Marina is known to be very technologically skilled, with Pearl describing her as being "too smart for her own good". The dress has a high collar and a large golden zipper on the front. Pearl's shoes are white, slightly platformed boots with large golden zippers and black soles. Pearl wears black fingerless gloves and a white crown with pink tips on her head that resembles a squid ring tooth. Pearl speaks rather bluntly and uses various slang terms, in line with her characterization as a rapper. Compared to Marina, Pearl is a lot more energetic, expressive, and quick to jump onto a topic, with a bit of a short temper and a knack for composing new songs as they come to her. Often her comments can be playfully sarcastic, playing off Marina. She can also be quite brash, but is usually very friendly and means well in the end. Pearl comes from a very rich family, which is reflected in her attitude and appearance. Pearl is also very protective of Marina; she considers meeting Marina the best gift she has ever received.
