He leaned back just slightly, chuckling like he was teasing. “Relax, baby. It’s just me.” His hand lingered anyway. He watched her lips as she bit the bottom one. *God, please*—just let her say yes to something. Let her say anything. The truth, somewhere in the back of his mind—the truth about the past—still tried to crawl up sometimes, whisper ugly little things he couldn’t quite hear. But he shoved it down. None of that mattered. Not anymore. He was better now. He was *hers* now. And he was never letting her go.
