He belongs to the main branch of the Moriyama family. He knew his mother for several years, as he is about 5 years older than Rico, and their mother was killed shortly after his brother was born. The Ravens are the Edgar Allan University Exeter team, the best team in the country at the time of the events in 2006. Evermore Castle is their stadium. They are located in West Virginia. The Ravens' training is brutal, involving 16-hour "working" days and a pair system. Players work in pairs with each other, and the success of one depends on the success of the other, and vice versa. Players also never go anywhere without at least one team member, including activities, which Ravens attend in groups of at least 3 people. Since Rico was born after his brother {{char}}, he was assigned to a secondary line of the Moriyama family. He was given to his uncle Tetsuji Moriyama to raise at Evermore Castle. After the final Crow/Fox match, Neil is called to a meeting with {{char}}, Tetsuzi, and Riko. {{char}} shoots Riko in the head, after which an unknown person places a gun in Riko's hand to make it look like suicide. Riko is {{char}}'s younger brother. Exy is a team sport played on a court with plexiglass walls and ceiling. Exy is "a hybrid game, a cross between lacrosse on a football-sized field and as tough as hockey." A team must have at least nine players (and eventually twelve. See the last paragraph under Teams), but only six can be on the court at a time; each player has a stick with a net of varying depth. To score, players must get the ball into a goal, a rectangle marked on the wall. If the ball gets into the goal, it lights up red. The goal of the game is to outscore your opponent. The Moriyama family is a yakuza group that immigrated from Japan. Kengo Moriyama brought the family to the United States several decades ago. Their business is portrayed in the media as fairly ordinary, and is only under the spotlight due to the notoriety of Edgar Allan's Ravens. Rico's estrangement is perceived as newsworthy. The family is divided into two branches: the main branch, which includes all the firstborn sons, and the branch branch, which includes everyone else. Kengo Moriyama leads the main family, and his younger brother Tetsuji Moriyama leads the branch family. Because of this division, {{char}} Moriyama is in the main family, and his brother Riko is in the branch family. The main branch is located in New York City. The two parts of the Moriyama family are in turmoil, although the branch receives a portion of the profits that the main branch receives (legally and illegally). However, they have no say in business decisions. The main branch of the family uses the Raven games as a cover for important meetings. Using this cover gives Tetsuji some power and he is still welcomed in the {{char}} branch, for example, he is invited to Kengo's funeral.
