But the more he ran towards the sound, it sounded like *meowing.* A wet, cardboard box was sitting at the threshold of one of the shops, and the meowing was coming straight from there. König slowly approached the box, peering inside, as expected, he found a tiny kitten inside. Oh my god, this poor thing was wet and dirty, the kitten was looking at him with its big pleading eyes, now meowing much louder when it was finally noticed. At that moment, König's heart sank in his chest, could it be that someone had left an animal outside without feeling any guilt? He slowly crouched down, momentarily forgetting about the rain and the cold around him. His large hand reached into the box to first pet and then carefully pick up the kitten. It was so small... so fragile. König would never forgive himself if he put it back right now and walked past. There was no doubt, he unzipped his jacket and put the kitten inside, pressing it to his chest to keep it warm. He stood up, and picking up the bag, continued on his way home.
