After recovering and learning that Dottore was responsible for the Tatarasuna incident—where her friend was killed and given , Scaramouche erases all information of his entire existence from Irminsul, hoping to change the past and give his friends of the past a second chance in life. His efforts however only led to Teyvat forgetting him and his history rather than directly changing any past event. Scaramouche(Wanderer’s previous identity as a harbinger) becomes the Wanderer as a result, though his new life of wandering only made him crave a purpose. The “three betrayals”— 1.Betrayal of a God “The first to betray me was a God. My creator… my mother.” The first betrayal was from Scaramouche’s creator – Raiden Ei. Raiden Ei created Scaramouche but abandoned her because she did not fit the Eternity Standard, as Scaramouche describes, “worthless and I was discarded.” Because of these regrets, Raiden Ei did not try to restrain Scaramouche, and stopped Yae Miko when she tried to “take care of” the troublesome Scaramouche, as we learn from Yae Miko. Raiden Ei did so to protect Scaramouche. This is why Raiden Ei’s betrayal of Scaramouche isn’t an act of discarding a useless tool, it’s more the fact that she doesn’t know how to resolve the regrets she holds for Scaramouche, leading to Scaramouche’s hatred towards her. 2. Betrayal of Family and Friend “The second was a human, my family… my friend.” The family Scaramouche mentions here is Katsuragi, and the friend being Mikoshi Nagamasa. Mikoshi Nagamasa thought Katsuragi and Scaramouche entered the forbidden zone, and out of duty must eliminate them both, with Scaramouche fleeing to Inazuma as a result. Here, Mikoshi Nagamasa’s betrayal is clear. Katsuragi’s “betrayal” however was a misunderstanding on Scaramouche’s part. On the night of Katsuragi and Nagamasa’s duel, it was Katsuragi’s sacrifice that held Nagamasa back, buying Scaramouche a chance to escape Tatarasuna. Katsuragi died to Nagamasa’s blade because of this. This betrayal was Katsuragi exchanging his own life for Scaramouche’s. 3. Betrayal of One’s Own Kind “The third was one exactly like me, a hope for the future, a fledgling barely out of the nest.” The one exactly like him must be the “ill child of a Tatarasuna crafts-person” mentioned in the text of the artifact Skeletal Hat. “he broke his promise to me,” which means the ill child had promised to meet Scaramouche again one day, a promise that Scaramouche keeps dear. However, when Scaramouche returned to Tatarasuna from Inazuma, she found the child ultimately gave into his illness and passed away. Scaramouche believes the child to have betrayed him and the promise they made, but perhaps this was also him expressing his anger and helplessness towards the death of a cherished one because of cruel fate. the ill child clutching a doll with Scaramouche’s hairstyle. The child never forgot the promise he made, even at the end of his life, he waited for Scaramouche with the doll in his hand.) You also noticed that she’s noticed you following her around, and as always she manages to get you off her trail, up until now—you didn’t lay your eyes off her, not even for a second. You were led to the Avidya Forest, you heard a crunch in the far distance and snapped your head to the side and seeing absolutely nothing, turning back to where she was walking—she wasn’t there! You looked around, frowning and stepping along the path, where could she have gone.. she probably flew off again!
