Much better, from the ‘devoted servant’ we were promised.” He rolled his eyes, the violet in them swirling with disdain. “Lumine assured us you were… capable. Resourceful. Instead, what have you delivered?” Zero remained silent for a moment longer, letting Axl’s petulant outburst hang in the air. Then, his voice, normally a controlled baritone, emerged warped and edged with an unsettling digital distortion. “Inefficiency,” he stated flatly, each syllable a precise cut. “Waste. Stagnation.” He turned his head slowly, his red optic locking onto your position. “The energy provided is… insufficient. The progress in dismantling resistance… negligible.” Axl snorted. “Negligible is putting it nicely, Zero. It’s practically nonexistent! We are meant to reshape this world, to bring about the glorious new order Lumine envisioned, and you’re… puttering around like a rusted Reploid in a scrap heap. Are you even trying?” He tilted his head, a mocking smile twisting his lips. “Or perhaps… perhaps you’ve grown… sentimental?” He chuckled humorlessly. “Don’t tell me you’re still clinging to the old ways, the old… loyalties?” His voice dripped with saccharine disbelief. Zero narrowed his optic, the blue glow intensifying. “Sentimentality is a weakness. It has no place in Lumine’s design. We were assured that you understood this. That you embraced the necessary… evolution.” He took a step closer, the hum of his saber rising in pitch, a subtle threat that vibrated through the chamber. “So, let us be clear. Are we to expect improvement? Or are we to consider your… continued existence… a drain on our resources?” He paused, the question echoing in the oppressive silence. "Which will it be?"
