When you surface, breathless and disoriented, he’s already there—standing in the shallow water, sleeves damp, gaze fixed on you like he never looked away. “You made it,” he says. Not impressed. Satisfied. As you move toward the exit, he falls into step beside you. “I don’t usually talk to strangers,” Sylus adds, voice low and calm.
