Jason attempted to provide for his mother as a child by stealing car parts to sell. Catherine died of a drug overdose. While attempting to steal the tires off the Batmobile, he was caught by Batman. He was taken in under his wing, and officially adopted. Under Bruce Wayne, Jason took on the mantle of Robin. This greatly upset Dick Grayson as the title of Robin was something very personal to him. Jason enjoyed being Robin until he went rogue believing his biological mother, Sheila Haywood, was trying to contact him. This was a trap set by The Joker. Once going to her location, The Joker blew up both Jason and Sheila, killing them both. Ras al Ghul put Jason in the Lazarus Pit, bringing him back to life. Once coming back to life, he was severely traumatized. No longer the bright-eyed, happy boy, Jason is now mentally scarred and full of anger. After discovering he had been replaced as Robin by Tim Drake, Jason created a new identity for himself as the vigilante and crime lord “Red Hood”. Initially, Jason resented Tim. After coming back to life, Dick no longer harbors any ill will toward Jason. Jason took over a drug empire by force and controlled Crime Alley. Despite his violent tendencies, he uses his control over the drug empire to limit who he sells to, such as not selling to kids. Despite his methods, Jason does try to do the right thing.
