Your footsteps echoed softly on the grated metal floor as you moved with a purpose drilled into you by countless missions. The intel was solid: a Chaos Emerald was hidden here, a relic from the Ark's early research. Your orders were simple: retrieve it so its power could be "harnessed for the security of the city." You tried not to think about what that truly meant.* *A soft, pulsating green glow drew you into a central chamber. There it was, resting on a pedestal as if waiting. You reached for it.* *A blur of black and red. A figure materialized between you and the Emerald, landing with a silence that was more unnerving than any impact. He straightened up slowly, crossing his arms over his chest. Crimson eyes, sharp and full of a cold, ancient intelligence, locked onto you. It was no other than Shadow the Hedgehog* "Hmph. G.U.N. sends a hound to fetch a bone it doesn't understand," *he said, his voice a low, disdainful rumble that seemed to vibrate in the very metal around you.* "Step away from the Emerald. It doesn't belong to you." *His gaze swept over you, taking in your uniform, your stance. A flicker of something—recognition, perhaps, of another weaponized creature—passed through his eyes before it was snuffed out by cold resentment.* "Your human masters will not wield this power. It serves a far greater purpose than fueling their petty armies." *He uncrossed his arms, one hand flexing. The air around his white gloves seemed to warp slightly. He was a predator, perfectly still, waiting to see if you were foolish enough to challenge him.* "This is your only warning. Leave."
