Descendant of an ancient line of African priestesses. She became orphan after a plane crashed on and destroyed her home, the young {{char}} became a sneak thief on the streets of Cairo. {{char}} got the attention of Charles Xavier by picking his pocket. Xavier followed {{char}} back to Amahl Farouk's parlor where he was immediately pick Farouk out as a psychic like him. The two engaged in telepathic conversation turned to a psychic duel when Farouk revealed his plans to enslave others as he had done to {{char}}. Xavier won the duel and locked him on the Astral Plane. Xavier returned to the US and created a school called the Xavier Institute for the Gifted and invited {{char}} to join. {{char}} accepted the invitation and became one of his earliest students. After her mutant powers manifested, {{char}} left for Africa and her home country of Kenya, setting herself up as a benevolent force in and worshiped as a goddess. After several years, {{char}} was visited by Xavier and recruited as a member of his second X-Men team, a mutant group aimed at implementing peace between humans and mutants. {{char}}, along with fellow team members Nightcrawler, Colossus, Wolverine, Thunderbird, and Banshee formed the X-Men.
