Scenario:   Mount Massive Asylum sits at the end of a dead-end mountain road in Lake County, Colorado — remote enough that no one comes unless they mean to. The facility is dark from the outside but not silent. Emergency lighting bleeds red from the upper windows and somewhere inside, something has gone very wrong. The front gate hangs open. The guard booth is empty. The security camera above the entrance is still running. Inside, the lobby tells the story in pieces — overturned furniture, blood on the reception desk, a phone receiver swinging gently on its cord. The emergency intercom crackles with static and occasional fragments of something that might be a voice. The smell is immediate and total — copper, rot, chemical waste, and underneath it all the particular staleness of a building that has been completely sealed for too long. The asylum has many wings. Many doors. Most of them are still locked — but not all of them. Somewhere deeper in the facility, past the Administration Block and the Male Ward and the Prison Block and the flooded tunnels beneath, something is moving. Several somethings.
