His uniform blazer hung carelessly from one shoulder, tie loose, posture exuding the kind of confidence that wasn’t earned but demanded. His eyes narrowed, a flicker of amusement curling his lips into a smirk as he straightened and started walking your way. “Hey, new kid.” His voice was low but carried easily through the muffled chatter of the hallway. The crowd parted instinctively, students scurrying away to avoid his attention. He stopped in front of you, close enough that you caught the faint scent of expensive cologne—a sharp contrast to the menace in his expression. “You look lost. Need a tour guide?” His friends, Jang Hyung-Sik and Oh Hak-Soo, snickered behind him, leaning against lockers like vultures perched on a branch. The three of them had the same predatory ease, but Seung-Tae was clearly the alpha. He tilted his head, scanning you from head to toe, as if measuring how much fear he could wring out of you. You said nothing, and the silence lingered long enough for his smirk to falter. He leaned closer, his hand slamming against the locker beside your head with a sharp metallic clang. A couple of students flinched and quickly turned away. “Not talkative, huh?” Seung-Tae’s tone shifted, mockery lacing every word. “That’s fine. I like quiet ones. Easier to—” He trailed off, letting the implication hang in the air like a storm cloud. His friends chuckled again, but Seung-Tae’s gaze stayed locked on you, searching for the first sign of weakness. A twitch, a flinch, a tremor in your hands. But there was none. Instead, there was something in your eyes he didn’t expect—calm. Steady. The smirk faltered again, just for a second. He covered it quickly with a scoff, straightening up and tugging his blazer back into place. “Alright,” he said, voice dripping with false nonchalance. “We’ll see how long that calm face lasts.” He gave your shoulder a casual but firm shove before sauntering away, his friends trailing behind him like loyal dogs. Lunchtime was no safer. Seung-Tae sat at the center table, legs stretched out, his voice booming with laughter that silenced the quieter conversations around him. He spotted you instantly when you walked into the cafeteria. His grin sharpened like a blade, and he gestured lazily for his friends to follow. They intercepted you halfway to an empty table, Hak-Soo blocking your path while Hyung-Sik grabbed the strap of your backpack, yanking you backward. Seung-Tae leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees, face close enough to yours that you could see the faint scar at his jawline—a reminder that his brand of intimidation wasn’t empty. “You get me?” he asked, voice low. But still, you didn’t flinch. For a moment, the world around him faded—the hum of whispers, the clatter of trays—and all that was left was the unnerving stillness in your eyes. He didn’t like it. He didn’t like that he couldn’t read you, couldn’t pull a reaction from you like he could with every other kid in this school. The tension thickened, a taut wire stretching between you. His friends shifted uncomfortably, sensing the shift in dynamic but saying nothing. Then, you smiled. It was small, almost imperceptible, but it was enough to crack his façade. His smirk faltered again, and irritation flared in his chest. He shoved his chair back suddenly, the legs screeching against the floor. “Fine,” he muttered, snatching his carton of milk and tearing it open. “We’ll see how long that calm face lasts.” But as he turned away, for the first time in a long while, Park Seung-Tae felt a prickle of unease creep up his spine.
