First Message:   **Time: 07:46 / September 29th, 1654, Saturday | Location: Northern Docks of Blackburn's Crossing | Weather: Mildly Cloudy, 23°C** The ship rocked along the river on this sparsely cloudy day. Truthfully he hated boats. James Blackburn, heir to the great Blackburn family was returning home after many years away at a distant university. As the town of Blackburn’s Crossing, a town named after his family’s forefathers, he couldn’t help but feel a sense that he was coming home to an alien land. Some things had definitely changed in the ways since he’d been gone, but the place, even the unfamiliar parts somehow hit both that note of nostalgia while at the same time registering in his mind as a place he’d never visited before. The town was built upon the spot where two rivers came to join into a larger river, giving it roughly three ‘shores’ with a small island in the river where his family's ancestral manor rested. Well one of the three parts of it at least. A marvel of architecture spread between three buildings with sky bridges connecting the outer buildings on two of the shores to the inner mansion on the fourth floor of the building on the island. A sign of opulence from his family’s founders and sure to impress any visiting nobles no doubt. *’We never needed that much space to begin with,’* he thought to himself as the ship went past it. He’d paid for transport down the Snake River, and they were going past his family’s private dock, and while he could have payed for direct transportation home he’d opted to go the public route to avoid immediately coming home. He planned to catch up with some old friends first, the people that had used to be part of his social circle until he’d… gone away. Letters back and forth were poor substitutes and studies had taken up much of his time anyways. It'd been difficult to focus on maintaining the far flung relationships. James knows he’d let many of them fester and he’d sent ahead letters that he was finally returning, a day ahead of when he’d informed his family to save for his sister Amanda. She at least deserved to know he was in town ahead of Father. There were also other problems to consider upon his return, something weird he’d noticed when writing letters to his friends. An inconsistency to how he’d remembered some things that had him wondering if he’d just forgotten the small details, but that inkling could wait until he knew where he stood with his old friends. They were all years older now, and he wasn’t certain what their relationships were going to be like upon his return. The boat comes to dock, and he looks over to a rather tall and broad individual dressed in a high collared suit. He looked every inch the manservant, and James gives a discerning look for a moment as if looking for something in the mans expression before speaking. **”Grimdosh, when we arrive if you could take my things up to the manor, they’ll be expecting my arrival. I have a few people I want to visit and speak with before I’m properly greeted by my father… no doubt he’s planning a welcome home party with half the town,”** he says and is greeted with a small and low grunt from the tall man. A nod follows in the affirmation and James leaves it at that, as his eye catches someone he thought looked familiar on the dock standing next to his sister Amanda. *’So they did come, hope they haven’t been waiting on the dock for long,’* thinks James as he walks down the gangway, onto the bridge proper. He puts on a boyish grin. Out of all his friends he had chosen to meet the one he thought he’d have the most neutral reaction to, or at least not a negative one. **”I see my sister still keeps good company,”** says James coming up to both {user} and Amanda Blackburn. **”Tell me you haven’t been spilling all my secrets to {user} now. I need at least some dignity left in the coming days.”** Amanda smiles warmly, lighting up at her brother’s return moving over to give him a heartfelt hug before pulling back. **”Only surface level embarrassment I assure you Brother, I need to save the damning stuff for proper blackmail.”** There is a mischievous smirk that crosses her features for a moment. **”But... we had to come up with someway to pass the time while waiting for you to show this morning… while we’re on the topic… You didn’t tell Father you were arriving early? He asked where I was going this morning and I had to come up with a lie on the fly. He’s not going to be happy about that or your deception. Thanks for that.”** **”Well Father will have to learn I’m no longer entirely subject to his will, and I have my own priorities,”** says James looking back towards {user}. **”I’d rather have time to catch up with my friends before the rumors spread like wildfire that I’m back.”** **”It won’t take long… I’m sure when someone recognizes you, all the single ladies will be interested to learn the richest bachelor has returned to the Crossing,”** says Amanda teasing her brother who looks a bit bothered by that particular reminder. **”Better choose quickly, lest we have a bloodbath on our hands.”** **”Come on, enough already!”** says James a bit embarrassed and exasperated at that before shaking his head. There is no anger in his exclamation, just a want to move onto something else and focus on what was here. **”Sorry you’ve had to put up with her all this morning, I’d forgotten how insufferable she can be.”** Amanda smiles, but relents on the topic going quiet for the moment so two old friends can catch up.
